He’s bossy, moody, and overprotective.
He’s also a pro athlete who needs to focus on winning games and staying out of the headlines.
I’m fiercely independent and need a man like I need a second period each month.
So when our worlds collide, I never expected him to be the one to jump in and save me. Especially not when my roommate disappears, leaving me with her baby.
I’m clueless about babies—and it shows. Good thing Alexei isn’t. With six nieces and nephews and an apparent hero complex, the dude is both sexy and more than capable. It’s a combination that makes it easy to forget we’re just playing house.
Review by Lisa Kane
Alex Ivan is a pro football player for the Chicago Hawks. He's out and about one night when he overhears a gorgeous woman having a convo with a not so attractive older man. Seems the guy would like to "buy" some of the woman's time. She seems reluctant, hesitant as if contemplating it, but still, she's reluctant. Something in Alex makes urges him to interfere, he can't stay out of it.
Turns out Ryleigh is a topless dancer at the club where Alex meets the other couple. She seems relieved that he stepped in when he did and chased off the guy. But she's confused about his motives.
He just honestly feels compelled to help her. Crazy, right? He's never met her, but he's drawn to her.
"You are a stripper, then?" I ask.
Ryleigh makes an annoyed sound in her throat. "It's a topless bar. I'm not a stripper."
"But you serve drinks in your underwear."
"As I said, men are gross. Sadly, they also pay my bills."
Ryleigh is in over her head. Her roommate has just taken off, leaving her infant behind. Ryleigh, with the help of a neighbor has been taking care of little Ella. But she has no idea what she's doing. She can barely support herself yet alone take care of an infant.
My roommate, Andi, disappeared more than six months ago, leaving me high and dry with an unpaid rent bill. And then a few days ago, she appeared again out of nowhere, only this time with a baby, promising she's pay me back and make everything right.
So Ryleigh let her stay the night, only she was gone the next day, leaving a note that said "I'm sorry" along with her baby.
All of this comes blurting out of her mouth to Alex. He has plenty of nieces and nephews. He's no stranger to babies.
Ryleigh accepts the offer for her and Ella to stay the night at Alex's when it turns out her heat was turned off, but she's not going to take advantage of him. Only she gets evicted from her apartment and, well, Alex steps in again to save the day. I guess Ryleigh and Ella will be staying with him until she gets things straightened out.
"I'm not your problem, or your little outreach project. You don't have to worry about me."
He nods. "Yeah, I know. Just like you didn't need to take in Ella when your roommate split. But it was the right thing to do, so you did it without a second thought. Come stay with me until things calm down for you and Ella."
Now it's only a matter of time until this beautiful woman and this smokin' hot man decide to turn up the dial on things and blur some lines. Alex is patient, I'll give him that. But when Ryleigh seems to want the same thing as he does, well he's not about to let her get away!
"Lie back and enjoy, baby. I intend to taste every inch of you tonight."
Things might seem perfect for now, but the truth is Ryleigh still has little Ella and the baby's mom doesn't seem to be making a return trip anytime soon. Alex is the perfect guy, he doesn't need a girl like her with a baby messing up his life. Alex just may have a few things to say about all this.
Space. She needs space. Fine.
A complicated situation is about to get even more complicated. Will baby make three or will life throw an interception their way?
"Win the game. Get the girl. Live happily ever after."
