Review and Giveaway: Driven by K. Bromberg

Synopsis

Rylee Thomas is used to being in control. But she’s about to meet the one man that just might make her enjoy losing it…

I am the exception to the rule.

In a world full of willing women, I’m a challenge to the roguish and achingly handsome Colton Donavan. A man used to getting exactly what he wants in all aspects of life. He’s the reckless bad boy constantly skating that razor thin edge toward out of control, on and off of the track.

Colton crashes into my life like a tornado: sapping my control, testing my vulnerabilities beyond their limits, and unintentionally penetrating the protective wall around my healing heart. Tearing apart the world I rebuilt so carefully with structure, predictability, and discipline.

I can’t give him what he wants and he can’t give me what I need. But after a glimpse beneath his refined exterior into the dark secrets of his damaged soul, can I bring myself to walk away?

Our sexual chemistry is undeniable. Our individual need for complete control is irrefutable. But when our worlds collide, is the chemistry enough to bring us together or will our untold secrets and battle of wills force us apart?

4.5 star review

Driven is book one in The Driven Trilogy and author K. Bromberg's debut novel.  All I can say is Wow!  This book will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions.  It is the story of Rylee and Colton, two damaged people who have an amazing connection but aren't sure whether to embrace it or run from it.

Rylee works for Corporate Cares, a foundation that helps orphans.  She also shares the role of caretaker and guardian to a bunch of orphan boys. She has been grieving for the past two years for the only man that she has ever loved, the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with.  She isn't looking for love and has thrown herself into her work.  She has been carrying around the guilt of what happened the night she lost Max and feels guilty even moving on or thinking about being with someone else, that is until she meets Colton Donavan.  While at a charity event for work she runs into Colton when he saves her after being locked in the back room.  Colton is sexy, and gorgeous and sparks feelings in Rylee that she knows she should not be having.  The instant chemistry between the two of them is hot, and intense.  And when he kisses her she becomes jelly in his arms.  But when she realizes that he is the same man that she heard backstage with another woman only moments before, she comes to her senses and knows that she needs to stay away from him.  Colton Donavan is dangerous, but irresistible.  Falling for Colton will only result in a broken heart so Rylee tells herself to stay away and forget the magnetic pull that she has towards this man.  But sometimes staying away isn't so easy, especially when your mind tells you one thing but your body feels differently.

Colton Donavan is a sexy, rich playboy who is also a famous racecar driver.  Colton's childhood is a mystery but you can sense that something horrible happened to him that has still left him feeling the pain and hurt.  He had a rough childhood and as a result he doesn't believe in love and doesn't do the girlfriend thing.  He has been with many woman before but it was always just for sex and fun, until he met Rylee. Colton knows that he should stay away from her and that in the end he will just end up hurting her, but he can't help wanting her.  He can't help the attraction that he feels and wants to spend more time with her.  But the problem is that regardless of how he feels when he is with her,  he cannot give her the relationship that she wants, needs and deserves.  He can't be that man for her.  Rylee is not the one night stand type of girl.  She also feels guilty for the way her body reacts when around him, guilty for the feelings that she has for him.  She wants Colton and decides to just go with it, give herself to him and see what happens.  But unfortunately for Rylee she starts falling for Colton in ways she neither expected or wanted.

The chemistry and connection that Rylee and Colton have is intense.  Their relationship will frustrate you and at times just break you.  I truly believe that Colton loves Rylee, but he is afraid to admit his feelings for her.  What he feels for Rylee is something that he has never experienced before and it scares the heck out of him.  Colton is intense, damaged and a little but of a mystery.  You never know which side of him you will see.  There are moments where he is sweet and caring and carefree.  He makes Rylee feel beautiful and cherished, and makes her think that maybe there is hope for them.  But once they start to get closer, Colton shuts down and pushes her away. Colton Donavan has managed to capture Rylee's heart, but the question is, will he end break it or will being with Rylee make him realize that there is such a thing as love.

The author did an amazing job with Driven.  You feel the connection with the characters in such a way that you go through the emotions with them.    This book will bring out all emotions.  There are moments when you get that feeling in your stomach and you are afraid to turn the page.  Their is the sweet side of their relationship that will make you smile.  Their relationship is intense and complicated and will frustrate you, but it is a ride that is worth taking.  You will fall in love with these two damaged people and want nothing more than for them to find the happiness that they deserve.  Driven was one roller coaster ride of emotions and when it was over I was left staring at my e-reader wondering what just happened.  Any book that can bring out that much emotion, make me happy one minute and heart broken the next and allow me to connect with the characters on an emotional level the way Driven did, is definitely a book worth reading.  Amazing job by K. Bromberg.  I cannot wait until August for book two.
