Review: Pretty as a Peach by Juliette Poe

Mainer Farms is steeped in family history, but it’s also deep in debt from the effects of the ever-changing farming industry. Not about to let his family’s legacy go under, Colt Mancinkus is willing to do anything he can to save the farm.

Darby Culhane is the new farmer in Whynot, North Carolina, and she’s proving to be quite the forbidden temptation for Colt. Darby isn’t looking for anything but a fresh start, and she’s got it all figured out. Get settled in? Check. Apply for the rural county grant? Check. Confrontation with the steaming mad, smoking hot local farmer? Well, that wasn’t on the agenda.

As pretty as she is sweet, Colt can’t help but be drawn to Darby’s…peaches. No really, she’s a peach farmer. Get that mind out of the gutter, and get on down to the farm to see what happens when circumstances force Colt and Darby to team up. They may just find that the peach trees aren’t the only things in bloom.

Review by Jen Skewes

I just adore this series.  It is fun, light, sexy and I just love the Mancinkus family and the little town of Whynot.  But it isn’t just about this family, the many residents of this small town as well as each new member of the Mancinkus family is what makes this series so enjoyable to read.  Pretty as a Peach is Colt’s story, the youngest brother of the family.

Colt has taken on the task of running his family’s large farm, which currently needs a lot of help, mainly financial help.  He has applied for a grant to help him with his current plans for the farm, but there is someone else, new to own, who also wants that grant.

Darby is a newly single mom who has just moved to Whynot.    Her ex brother-in-law bought a peach farm and after her marriage fell apart, moving to this small town to run the farm is the perfect move for her right now.  Not only is she getting away from her ex but she will also be working on her thesis as well as doing something that she loves.  She knows that she is in competition with Colt for this grant, but she hasn’t actually met him, only heard about it.   When they finally do meet they Colt is nothing that she expected him to be and Colt’s reaction to Darby is the same.

The physical attraction between the both of them is quite evident from the start.  This is the woman that Colt is supposed to hate for possibly ruining his chances of bettering his family’s farm.  But once he sees her, he is quite taken by her and her charm.  She has a lot of baggage and right now is not the time for her to be starting something new where love is concerned.  But there is something about Colt that makes her want to get to know him.  With a farm to run, a daughter to take care of and an ex who won’t go away, will Colt and Darby get to know each other on a different level?

I loved Colt and Darby together.  From the moment they met, there was that wonderful flirty banter and you just knew that no matter what happened with the grant these two would be anything but enemies.

Darby is a great heroine who just wants to give her daughter a good life. Her ex-husband is a creep who I just wanted to go away.  And her daughter Linnie is the cutest 7 year old ever and I loved how well her and Colt became quick friends.  That man is sweet, caring, sexy and just an amazing guy.

I love this series and love visiting all of my favorite characters.  I feel like I love in this town with them.  This may be Colt and Darby’s story but we get to see all of the characters we love, from Colt’s siblings, their significant others, Pap and even the local residents.  This series always manages to just make me smile.  I cannot wait for Larkin’s story and hopefully find more out about this new mystery B & B guest.

Review by Jen Skewes

Label Me Proud is a friends to lovers romance which is one of my favorite books to read.  It was a fun, sweet and light read with just the right amount of drama.

Masyn, Lee and Beau have been best friend since kindergarten.  Beau is about to get married to a woman that neither Masyn or Lee are fond of.  While Lee is still harboring his true feelings for his best friend Masyn.  The two of them have always been inseparable, especially sine Beau left two to go to college.  But they have always been nothing more than friends.  Lee is afraid to admit his true feelings to Masyn in fear of ruining their friendship.  Will he finally man up and tell her the truth?  Or will something hold him back?

I really loved this story.  For one Lee is just one of those men that you fall in love with instantly.  He is a southern gentleman who is sweet and sexy.   Loved the humor and banter between him and Masyn and Beau.  While this is friends to lover romance it is so much more that that.  The friendship between the three of them is a big part of this story as well.  Lee is a sweetheart whose two best friends mean the world to him.  He has been a part of their life's since he was little and felt that they were more family than anything.

I loved Masyn, tough as nails on the outside, doing job that is mostly done by men, and beautiful on both the inside and out.  She does have her own insecurities which you do see in this story and that is why I loved her.  She is such a relatable character and I loved her.

Masyn and Lee together were just adorable!!!  I loved not only the banter between them but the sweetness and how it all just came so easy to them.  Beau is their other best friend and he was very much part of this story. He has his own story to tell and I loved how his two friends were by his side the entire way.  This is by no means "his book" but it certainly sets it up for him to have his own.....hint hint!!

I loved this book. I loved the friendships, how important family was and the writing was great.  It is a fun and light hearted read.  I loved how Masyn and Lee sort of danced around their feelings but yet at the same time everyone saw it.  They were just perfect together.  I am really hoping for Beau's story!!  Great read.

Review: Where We Began by Nora Flite

From USA Today Bestselling Author Nora Flite comes a new sexy, and beautifully dark, second chance romance.
I'm a hostage.
The food is fancy, the carpets are lush, but this bed isn't mine. I'm only here because of my father's enemies.
I hate all of them. Except for him.
The first time I meet Dominic Bradley, he saves me without a second thought. This kind boy is nothing like the rest of his family. Our friendship comes easy.
When he leaves for six years it shreds my soul.
It's nothing compared to when he comes back.
He's turned into a hardened soldier with hungry eyes; a man that makes my heart race.
A man that wants to hate me while also aching to be my first kiss. My first everything.
He acts like we're enemies, like he's forgotten our past. But I can't.
It's impossible to forget the moment I fell in love.
I know where we began.
I'm not sure where we'll end.

Filthy... heart-stopping... you'll become obsessed with knowing how it ends.

Review by Jen Skewes

I love Nora Flite’s writing.  She always manages to capture me from the start.  Her dark romances aren’t too much where you can’t get past the darkness.  It is just the right amount of drama and darkness and this book was no exception.

Laiken has been taken from the her family and her home at the young age of 12.  It is the price she has to pay for her father’s mistakes.  She has lived a sheltered life with her parents, her sister/best friend and her newborn brother.  When a strange woman comes to the house to take her away, she is scared but puts up a good front.  She needs to be strong in order to get through this whole ordeal.  She really has no clue as to what is really going on or why, but she knows that she needs to be strong.

At her new home she meets Dominic, a boy her age and her captor's son.  They instantly form this bond, with Dominic saving her on her first night there.  But shortly after meeting each other, Dominic is sent away with a promise from him of coming back for holidays.  It’s about six years later and Dominic is back home for the first time since he left.  He is all grown up and not the same boy she knew.  He is so different in a way that makes her nervous.  She is not sure what to expect, but she knows that what they had years ago is gone.  He is hot and sexy and all grown up but she still feels like she needs to stay away.  How long will that last?

I really loved the connection between Laiken and Dominic when they were kids.  But when they are older ,what was once between them is still very much there.  I think she is too scared to admit it and Dominic is too afraid that she will find out the truth.  But regardless the feelings between the two of them together are still very much alive.  They are intense and at this point they both need to trust each other.  I can see how much Dominic still wanted her but at times with his family and what he feels he needs to prove I wonder what will happen.  Can she trust him?  I cannot wait to find out in Where We End.
