She’s the light from his past.

He’s the one her heart has always longed for.

Trained by the best, Christopher Walker has fought hard for his country and even harder to forget the only girl he’s ever loved. He spent countless nights submerged in death and destruction only to find himself clinging to the memories of her when the darkness crept in.

When her life is threatened, Christopher will stop at nothing to protect her. Even if it means having to confront his past.

Alissa Malone never thought she would find herself face-to-face again with the only boy she’s ever loved. But she soon realizes Christopher is not the same man he once was.

His touch is still electrifying—his voice still earth shattering. But there’s a darkness about him that wasn’t there before. A pain he harbors so deep that she can feel it all the way to her soul.

One fateful moment destroyed his very existence, and only one person will be able to make him realize that what he considers an act of dishonor was truly an act of courage.

This is Book Four in the Acts Of Honor series, the spin-off series to Men Of Honor. It is not necessary to read all of the other books in the series. However, I do highly recommend that you at least read Resisting Temptation, the third book in the Men of Honor series, since this is where these Characters story began.

Review by Lisa Kane

Christopher Walker loved Alissa Malone with his whole heart. From the time they were 15 they were inseparable. In spite of Alissa’s snobby mother and the scars from Christopher’s past, they had every intention of being together. But people don’t always make the wisest decisions for themselves. Christopher decided they needed to follow different paths. Alissa would follow her medical dreams and he would enlist in the service.

"I wish things were different, but they aren't and they never will be."

Fast forward five years later. Christopher is back home living on Faith and Cade’s property. He is broken and jaded and full of self- hatred. But his life is about to cross paths with Alissa again. She needs him and he doesn’t hesitate to do what he has to in order to protect her.

"Allisa, baby, it's me-Christopher."

Alissa’s life has changed too. But she has never fallen out of love with Christopher. Only the man in front of her is not the one who left her all those years ago.

"You forget, Christopher, that you walked away from me. You threw me away."

What happened to destroy the sensitive, caring man who loved life? These days he seems to need his music, it’s the only thing that calms the demons in him.

When music is at its loudest that's when silence descends upon me.

My demons are finally quiet.

There hasn’t been a day in the last five years where Christopher didn’t regret his actions. Leaving Alissa was a mistake but regrets are useless.

There's no way she hasn't dated. But the thought of her with anyone else makes me violent, and I have no one to blame but myself.

He is not the man she thinks he is; in his eyes he is a monster. I had a few theories about what happened to Christopher and when the truth is revealed, I have to admit I had to turn my head away from my Kindle. As bad as I thought the reveal would be, it’s a million times worse.

"What you did was not a dishonor."

Throw in some intrigue, self-loathing and enough steamy sexy to turn legs into rubber bands-and that sums up An Act of Courage. K Lynn has never disappointed me with her writing. Both her Men of Honor and Acts of Honor series continue to be two of my favorites. They're not roses and sunshine, these stories are raw and exposed. Yet those are the reasons that I love them, the light moments balance out the darker ones. These are the stories that stay with the reader long after the last page is turned.

I love you. Please, wait for me.

One minute I’m drumming to a beat I could never play on my own then the next I’m flipped around to face him, his fingers digging into my hips possessively. I gasp, my breath racing as I stare back at him.

Something passes between us.

A decision.

A choice.

No more fighting this.

“Fuck complicated.” His earlier words fall past his lips then our mouths become one.

The connection slams into me, sending my heart reeling. Our tongues duel in a beautiful battle, the sound of our passion filling the air as our past ignites.

A growl erupts from him, vibrating against my lips. “You taste as good as I remember.”

I want to tell him the same thing but can’t. All I can think about is his mouth never leaving mine, not even for a second, or it might kill me.

At this moment, I’m not even sure how I survived so long without it—without him.

He slides the stool closer to the drum set before his hand moves between us and presses on my chest. I seize the opportunity to suck in air and let him guide me to my back, my shoulders resting against the musical cylinders.

His hands move to mine and it’s then I realize I still have the drumsticks gripped tightly in my fists. With a sexy smirk, he pries them both from me, throwing one on the floor but keeps hold of the other.

His dark eyes never sever from mine as he unbuttons the shirt I’m wearing, exposing me to his stare. The cool air whispers over my heated flesh, my nipples straining for his touch.

“So fucking pretty.” The wild lust in his eyes triggers an intense desire in me.

I bite my lip to keep from moaning but all silent caution is thrown out the window the moment he takes the stick and brushes the tip of it over one aching bud.

Another gasp parts my lips, a fiery whimper purging from me at the cool, hard feel. My back arches, the small touch igniting an inferno in my body.

“Remember the things I used to do to your body, Alissa? How wet you would get when you’d hear me sing?” he murmurs, dragging the smooth wood down my tummy. “You’d beg me to take your ache away. Remember?”

“Yes. Do you?” I ask. I’m dying to know. Has he thought of me as much as I have him?

“Yeah, baby. There isn’t a moment of our time together that I’ve ever forgotten.”

His admission has my throat burning and heart aching. Aching at the loss of him, of what we could have had.

                What we did have.

“The good,” he whispers. “The bad.” He slips the stick in my panties. “And the fucking beautiful.”

“Oh, god, Christopher.” His name spills past my lips on a cry of pleasure as he glides the stick through my wet flesh, slowly working it against my swollen clit.

He plays my body like he plays every instrument. With skilled perfection and grace. Keeping his momentum, he leans down just enough to suck a hard nipple into his mouth. His teeth graze it with a pressure that borders on a beautiful pain and it’s enough to send me over the edge.

Blissful cries rip from my throat as I’m swept up into an intense storm of pleasure.

“Good girl, scream for me, Alissa. Let me have your pleasure because next it’s going to be my cock working this hot little pussy.”

Review by Jen Skewes

I was so excited for this book.  We first met Jake and Greg in the first book Something There In Between.  While reading that boo I suspected that there may be more between them but until the very end I wasn't quite sure.  I loved them in the first book and could not wait to get their story.  What I loved about this book it the way it started, which is exactly where we left these two very sexy and very alpha males.  But the part I loved was that the moment that surprised us all at the end surprised them just as much.

Greg has been in love with his best friend for quite some time.  But he has never acted on his feelings because Jake, well he loves women.  Or at least he thinks he does.  But that one kiss that night while drunk has not left either their minds.  Jake and Gregg are both broken in their own way and between their pasts, their similarities, their personalities they just click.  They get each other in so many ways. Jake is still trying to deal with his horrific past and because of this he is slowly going down this very dark hole.  And it isn't until fully hits rock bottom that he finally sees what his life has become.  With Greg by his side he picks himself up but it's not only his life and dealing with his past that concerns him.  It's these feelings for his best friend that he never knew were there.  It's the connection that they have that is beyond friends, the attraction he suddenly feels when he is near him.  It's a risk to be with each other given their line of work.  Will it be worth it?

The one thing that I always love about a M/M romance is when you feel the connection between the two characters.  I love watching one or both people discover their feelings of the other person, knowing how foreign they are never having been with another man before.  When you can feel the emotions, the love and the passion and feel that it is more than just a sexual connection, for me that is the perfect M/M romance.  And Ms. Ferguson delivered it all.  I loved Greg and Jake together.  They were best friends as close as two friends can be but when they stated to explore what was between them you really felt the love and connection.  They were there for each other when they needed it the most, to love and comfort each other.  I loved everything about this story.  The writing is fantastic and flowed perfectly.  It was hot and sexy and just what I love in a M/M love story. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I hear a clatter, pulling me out of my own head, as Jake tries to yank the dusty cloth off the stove. That’s enough of that shit. I don’t know if the stove is still connected to the gas and I don’t feel like dying in a giant fireball tonight.

Marching up to Jake, I grab his shoulders and try to steer him toward the back door, but he isn’t having it. Spinning around, he puts us chest to chest. I swallow the sudden lump in my throat. Does he know? Of course he doesn’t.

The tension between us has been rising to a boiling point. Our chemistry is so much deeper than just friendship. Jake’s walls come down when he drinks, but I have never dared to hope for a moment like this.

“There isn’t any food,”Jake pouts, his baby face making him look like an adorable child—a child I want to smack and kiss, in no particular order. I’m tired too and ready to go home. But I know Jake won’t drop his hunt for food. We’ve been down this road before.

I sigh in defeat. “I’ll take you to Waffle House,”I whisper. I’ll push aside my tiredness for Jake. I would do almost anything for him. This moment feels intimate, being in the dark alone with him in my arms. It’s pretty much every dream I’ve ever had come true.

“Greg…”Jake’s voice trails off. I can just barely see in the dim light, but it looks like his eyes are focused on my lips.

“Fuck, don’t look at me like that.”It’s only a half-hearted protest. More of me wants this than not. And that’s the problem.

Jake doesn’t speak. He just leans forward and then, after a brief hesitation, pushes his lips to mine.

My entire body stiffens, afraid to move. God I hope this isn’t some drunken mistake on his part. My hands lock into their position resting on his shoulders. I’m so nervous I’ll spook him. I know his history, probably better than most. I don’t know if he realizes what he’s doing. I know I’m a bastard for not pushing him away, and despite all these thoughts, about ninety percent of the blood in my body is rushing south.

Jake ignores the fact that I’ve frozen on my feet. Slanting his head, his tongue teases my bottom lip, asking me to open up.

And I do. Oh my God, I do.

He wraps his arms around the back of my neck, pulling us even closer. I can feel I’m not the only one aroused by this, his erection pushing against mine through our dress pants. He moans when he feels my hard-on pushing back, and that’s all I need to thaw. I move my left hand up to the back of his head and take control of the kiss. I don’t even think about it; I lower my right hand to rub him through his pants. Despite the material between us, I can feel how hard he is. I feel the heat coming off of him. He moans long and low into my mouth, thrusting himself into my hand.

I curse as I manage to undo his button and fly with one hand, mentally high-fiving myself for the coordination, and reach past the layers of fabric to grip him. He’s just as big as I thought he would be. Smooth skin over something hard enough to hammer nails. I run my hand from his base to tip. I had already known from plenty of times in the men’s room together that he was uncut, but feeling it like this makes me want to do so many dangerous things to him. I wonder how he would feel about me nibbling on…

A sudden crash scares the shit out of us. I rip my mouth from Jake’s and we both turn our heads to our left at the same time.

Ron is standing in the doorway. Despite the shitty lighting, I can see his heaving chest. His eyes are wide and he's holding his gun.

This is not good. This is so not fucking good.

Dear Selah,

Do you remember me?

Of course you don’t. So I’m going to give you a refresher course.

I’ve known you for years and years. We used to have beautiful conversations. There was no one that knew you better than me. We were handmade for each other.

Lately, it’s become achingly obvious you’re miserable. You’ve moved back home to take care of your ailing mother. You’ve been looking for a new job, but that’s not going well. Admit it: it’s all too much.

Everyone around you sees your suffering, but they’re not willing to help you.

Everyone but Jackson.

He comes into your life at the perfect moment and offers you everything you could want: a shoulder to lean on, love, and most importantly, hope.

But there’s no one that can compare to me. You seem to forget that I’m your figure 8. Your infinity. You try to run, but I will always find you.

Yours Truly,

Review by Jen Skewes

Wow!!!  I am not even sure that I have words right now or how I am even going tow rite this review and express how great this book was.  This book I will admit started off a little slow but then it picked up rather quickly and at that point I could not put this book down.  I needed to know what would happen next, how this whole story would play out.  I needed to understand what was going on, what was real and what wasn’t. This book by far exceeded any expectations that I had.  I am honestly not sure what I expected when I started it but it was so far from what I thought it would be and that is a really good thing.

Figure Eight is filled with mystery and suspense and in true Calia Read fashion it will screw with your mind.  But it was that mind “fuckery” that I loved.  Theories were swirling through my head the entire time.  Wondering what was reality and what was the result of someone’s crazy imagination.  And how in the world would it all be explained in the end.  Let me tell you when it all came together it all made complete sense, but Ms. Read never stopped shocking you right up until the very end when I had that “WTF moment”.  And I must say it was brilliant

I have read all of Calia Read’s books but I think it is the books like this on that I really love the most.  She just has this way of diving real deep into her character’s mind.  She has this amazing ability of making you question yourself and what you believe will happen versus what is really going on.  Her writing will hold you captive, not being able to let go until the very end.  And even then you are still left wondering and thinking.  Going over it again and again in your mind.  That is the best way to describe it.

I am purposely not going into any detail about this story.  Go in blind and enjoy the crazy ride that it will take you on.  It will be worth it because once again Calia Read completely blew me away.

I have discovered that from a distance it is incredibly easy to read people. In the shadows, people don’t notice you. They let their guard down. Let you into their life without even knowing it. After a while their movements become predictable and you start to feel more intimate with them. You know when they’re irritable or sad. Happy or anxious. And while they keep desperately seeking a cure- all for their afflictions, you stand there in shadows, knowing what they need. My last gift was what you needed. But you barely noticed. You were too busy with your despair.

Ah, despair, despair, despair. Too many people get caught in that bitch’s web. And the sad truth is that they never find their way out. They never find their figure eight.

They never find me.

Yet the truth of the matter is that you didn’t find me. You got lucky and had the tables turned.

You may not see me yet. But you will.

Something as big as me takes time to acclimate to. Until then I’m going to give you another present. This one you’re going to take notice of. It is truly something.

I’m actually quite proud of myself with this one. It’s so good that I’m going to let you think that fate, kismet or whatever bull shit you call it, was responsible for it. Besides, I have a million more gifts just waiting for you, that I can take credit for.

Each one is bigger and better than the last.

You’ll see.

Review by Jen Skewes

I loved this book.  Missing Grace is one of those books that is filled with so much emotion and hope.  Once I started to read it I did not want to let go.  For me personally it is a story that was so unique and honestly made me think because everything about it just felt so real.

Ben and Grace had sucha beautiful and amazing love.  A love that everyone dreams of having.  They met when they were kids, became best friends and then eventually lovers. Their love for each was so strong and so passionate.  But one day it all vanished.  Grace left for a business trip and never came back.  He has never given up hope that one day they he will find her.  There is no way he can move on with his life if Grace is not in it.

Three years later and Ben has still not found the love of his life, but fate intervenes in a really big way.  The day that Ben has been waiting for is finally here.  But will it be everything that he hoped it would be.  Or will he lose hope all over again?

I don’t want to really say too much about this book.  I wanted to go into detail about the characters and what I loved but I honestly do not want to give anything away.  The best way to read this book is t just go in blind.  It will capture you from the very beginning and tust me you will not want to put this book down.

Missing Grace is a beautiful and powerful story that is filled with so much love and hope.  The love that Ben has for Grace is beyond words.  He is truly a man who loves with his whole heart and in such a passionate way.  He is patient, loving, and kind.  Your heart breaks for this man who has lost so much.  At times I hurt for him but then times when Ms. Scott managed to sew the pieces of my heart back together.

SL Scott writes with so much passion and every part of this story flows perfectly.  It never felt rushed or like it was too over the top.  Everything about this book happened at the perfect pace.  I loved the connections in this story, the love that you felt within the pages.  I am not even sure I can put into words how much I loved this book.  It is beautiful, powerful, passionate love story that will leave you wanting more and thinking about it for days.  and not this is not a cliffhanger but just one of those books where you cannot get enough of these characters.  Wonderful job by SL Scott.
