Release Blitz: The Boy on the Bridge by Sam Mariano

Title: The Boy on the Bridge
Author: Sam Mariano
Genre: Bully Romance
Release Date: March 4, 2021

BLURB

The day I met Hunter Maxwell he wasn’t the rich kid who lived in the giant house, he wasn’t the most popular guy in school, he certainly wasn’t the bully who had chased his own best friend out of town after a falling out—he was just a boy with a black eye and a dark secret.

My life would have been much easier if I had stayed out of it, but I couldn’t. I saw someone hurting and wanted to help. I saw someone possibly in danger and wanted to make sure he was safe.

There’s nothing safe about Hunter Maxwell, though. I thought there might be. I fell under his spell. Whatever the world saw when they looked at him, it wasn’t what he showed me.
The bond we formed was real. I know it was real. But with Hunter, when the tides turn, you’d better hope you’re safely on the shore and out of his reach.

I thought I was a strong enough swimmer to keep my head above water. I thought if it came down to it, I could resist his pull.

I didn’t know, but now I do.

Once Hunter sets his sights on you, there’s no such thing as out of his reach. Whether it’s today, tomorrow, or five years from now, he’s coming for me—and when he does, he won’t stop until he’s destroyed me.

Review by Jen Skewes

I am a huge fam of Sam Mariano’s writing.  Her writing is not only addictive but will completely take you out of your comfort zone.  At least it did for me.  She knows how to write a story that has enough dram and angst to keep you on the edge of your seat and glued to your reading device.  Her love stories are so far from conventional that you question your own sanity for loving it.  Her heroes are those alpha males who should be everything you hate but cannot help loving them.  She completely tests your boundaries and makes you question everything.  And it all of reasons above why I absolutely love her!!!  I loved Untouchable and could not wait for another bully romance from her.  And once again she did not disappoint.

Hunter is the boy on the bridge, the boy who goes to his place when he needs to get away.  It is also the place where he meets Riley when they were just 14 years old.  Even though they are in school together, they are in two different circles and have never really spoken.  But that day on the bridge paved the way for their story.  There was an instant connection and understanding between the two of them.  You felt it just as much as they did.  But certain circumstances broke them apart and it wasn’t until 6 years later that they would meet again.  But things between them has changed.  Hunter wanting to hurt Riley for reasons that I will not mention, but the whole time trying to also fight the love he has for her.  He is a complicated individual who has many questionable moments, but underneath that man in someone who truly loves Riley.

Riley is the sweet girl who was there for Hunter in a way that no one else was.  She broke his walls down which allowed him to open up.  Until that moment that broke them apart.  But now he’s back and she truly is not sure how to feel about it.  Her feelings for him never died.  But it’s his possessiveness and manipulative ways that has her not only wanting her to stay away, but it also pisses her off and hurts her at the same time.  She is a strong woman who does not care what people think or say about her.  And I love that about her.  But I do think that Hunter does hold some power over her, but she does the same for him.  Making them both act in ways that make you wonder if either one of them are sane!!!

What I truly love about this story is that Hunter and Riley both have their flaws. Neither one of them are perfect in any way.  Their love is complicated, intense, raw and completely unconventional.  But there is never a doubt, no matter what happens, that their love for each other is very deep.  No matter how much Hunter pushes, how possessive he gets, how they both push each other’s buttons, or how much they hurt each other, the love they have is real and very intense.  I loved them both, but that does not mean that they did not piss me off.

This book will not be for everyone and there are triggers that may make some not want to continue.  But if you love a complicated, toxic, intense love story filled with drama and angst then this one is for you!!!!  Sam Mariano has done it again. She has made me question my morals as well as my sanity – lol!!!  I loved every minute of it and the reason why I will read anything that she writes.

EXCERPT

“You sure you want to bail? Leave me here alone in a dark theater with Valerie? Maybe you should tag along and make sure I behave myself.”
I know he’s only ragging on me, but I scoff at him anyway. “Please. I’d never babysit a guy. My mom taught me better than that. If you like Valerie, there’s no way you like me. If you don’t like me, then—”
He stands just as abruptly as I did, moving so close he’s practically on top of me.
My words halt and my amusement fades. His handsome face is so close to mine, my heart sinks. I can’t think straight when he stands so close to me.
“Then what?” he challenges, looking down at me and holding my gaze.
Stampeding wild animals stomp through my chest as I look back at him. I can see from the glimmer in his eyes, he knows exactly how he’s affecting me.
“Don’t torture me, Hunter.”
“This isn’t what it feels like to be tortured by me, Catnip.”
