Review and Giveaway: Leo's Chance and Leo by Mia Sheridan

Leo's Chance

The follow-up to Leo, the USA Today bestselling novel by Mia Sheridan.

Does everyone deserve a second chance? Even someone who lies and deceives to get it?

Do we all have a second chance coming? Even if we play a part in our own destruction?

How hard would you fight to have a second chance at love? A second chance at life? Another chance to tell your own story?

Every love story has two sides. Evie told hers. This time it's Leo's chance.

4 Star Review

Leo’s Chance is the story of Leo told in Jake’s POV.  I fell in love with Jake through Evie’s eyes, and now that I have had a chance to hear his side of the story, I love Jake even more.

To refresh your memory Evie and Leo were in foster care together.  Leo was adopted at the age of 15 and he made Evie a promise that he would come for Evie in 3 years on her 18th birthday.  Leo moved from Ohio to California and promised to write Evie.  Evie never received a letter from Leo then and not in the 8 years since he has been gone.  She had no information and no way to contact him in his new life.

Enter Jake Madsen.  He meets Evie and informs her that he knew Leo and sadly Leo was killed in an accident.  In the hospital Leo had asked Jake to look up Evie and make sure she was okay.  Evie is hoping to find the answer that she has been longing to know.

"When he left, he promised he'd keep in touch and he never did. Do you have any idea why?" I think I see pain flash quickly in her eyes. Yeah, I do. "His" life went to shit pretty immediately and he lived with a constant death wish for eight years. But he never stopped loving you. Not for a second.

Jake is trying to make amends from his past life.  He’s had a past filled with alcohol, drugs, and women.  He had a dad who didn’t love him, a mother who walked away from him and his brother, and a younger brother who Jake feels he failed to look out for.   He has an adoptive mother that has caused him deep-rooted emotional problems and self hatred, plus guilt for the death of his adoptive father.

Sometimes it feels like I’m a broken mess of pieces, just looking for a way to fit them all together.

Jake is holding a deep secret that will either have Evie running into his arms or running away from him.  I enjoyed being able to read the inner struggles he had with himself about telling her the truth and when to do it.  He wanted their relationship to become strong enough that it would prevent her from running.  Unfortunately somebody beats him to telling her the secret and when she confronts him the truth is forced out and she runs.

And just like I knew she would be if she knew the truth, she’s gone. And I do the only thing I can do; I drop down to my knees in front of the closed elevator doors, my head in my hands, my heart shattered.

Jake gives Evie the time she requested to process the information that she has just learned.  In the meantime, Jake is forced to confront the source of his derailment.

It was difficult to pick and choose which highlighted passages to use in this review.  I had so many precious Jake thoughts.  I don’t have a place to insert this particular highlight into a convenient place in the review, but I want to include it so that you can understand how deeply emotional and distraught Jake is when it comes to Evie.

She studies me for a couple minutes and then she takes her thumb and runs them over my cheeks, spreading wetness. Was I crying, too? I hadn’t realized.

Fall in love with Leo all over again.  Even though a lot of the dialogue is the same from the first book, there are added scenes from the times that he is not with Evie. I enjoy entrance into a male POV and Jake’s POV truly did not disappoint.   We are privy to Jake’s inner most feelings and how he hurts for the pain he has caused Evie.  He fights through his past to find the happiness that he was dreaming of, 8 years later.  A book ending with an epilogue always leaves closure, and this epilogue does not disappoint.  It’s probably one of the more heartwarming ones I’ve read in a long time.

Evie and Leo met in foster care as children and formed a bond of friendship. As they grew, their bond turned to love, and they vowed to make a life together when they turned 18 and were no longer a part of the system.

When Leo unexpectedly gets adopted as a teen and he moves to another city, he promises Evie that he will contact her as soon as he gets there and come back for her in a few short years. She never hears from him again.

Now eight years later, in spite of the odds, Evie has made a life for herself. She has a job. She has friends. She's content. Then a man shows up out of the blue, claiming that her long lost love, Leo, sent him to check up on her. The attraction between them is undeniable. But, should she trust this sexy stranger? Or is he keeping a secret about what his connection to Leo is really all about and why Leo disappeared all those years ago?

New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

  3. I was intrigued first by the blurb about Leo's Chance, but when I read further down about Leo, I knew I had to enter this contest. I'm a sucker for second chance romances, as second chance is/was a part of my life too. jdh2690@gmail.com
