Review: Beneath This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas

Our 4.5 star review

"It's pure bliss, baby. total gratification. Absolute, complete earth shifting, universe shaking love"
After reading and loving, This Man I could not wait for Beneath This Man to come out. All I can say is wow!  Jodi Ellen Malpas knows how to bring out every emotion possible. This book was filled with angst, intense drama, frustration and even heart warming moments.
Jesse and Ava’s relationship has been rocky from the get go. How can two people be so good together yet are so very destructive. Trying to find a middle ground in this relationship has been challenging.  They are trying to get back on track but have many obstacles in their way to happiness.

It has been five days since Ava left Jesse at Lussos in an angry drunken state. And Ava now finds Jesse back in her life.  Jesse is her love, her heart and her addiction all in one.  And while she knows that she should probably stay away, she just can't find the strength to do so.  But she knows that in order to be with him she needs to get inside Jesse's head, needs to understand who he is and why he is so controlling when with her.  She vows to do just that in her own way, even if the consequences she has to face for her actions, is the wrath of Jesse Ward.

Jesse ward....Why do I love him so much? He is still controlling and crosses the line many times with Ava.  Sometime he acts in a way that makes me want to despise him.  And then he can be the sweetest man to her and melt my heart.  As the reader you realize how much he loves Ava, how much he needs her and that his actions are out of fear of losing the one and only woman who has ever had his heart. the only woman who has made him feel whole and complete.   Jesse is a very intense character, he is broken and damaged. But I can't help but love him.

“I need you. I need you strong and healthy. I need you to understand how much I love you, I need you to know that I can’t be without you either. I would die before losing you too.”

You begin to understand Jesse a little more.  I honestly think that both characters have grown in this sequel.  Ava tries to stand firm and slowly tries to peel the layers of his thick exterior.  She knows what he does to her, knows that she submits to him when she shouldn't.  She is also trying to learn when to let go of certain things and what truths are the ones worth fighting over.  While it is not easy for her, Ava tries to come to terms with the person he was before her and the fact that he is lord of the Manor. This books took me on another emotional journey with Jesse and Ava. I was able to see what it is about Jesse that molded him into the person he is and why he is the way he is, good and bad.  At times I became frustrated and angry, but then there are some sweet moments that made me smile and laugh. Oh, and there is also the twist that Malpas threw in, the one I never saw coming, that had me staring at my E-reader with my mouth wide open in shock.

Questions are finally answered and we are able to truly understand and love, what’s beneath this man….

I can not say anymore about this book without revealing spoilers.  I want readers to read this book and to feel the way I feel, that Malpas is an amazingly talented author. If you loved This Man you will love this one even more. You will get sucked into Jesse and Ava's world and love every minute of it.  It will be a crazy emotional roller coaster ride, but trust me when I say this, when you get to the end of the ride you will say that it was all worth it.
