Blog tour: Interview with Jake and Abby from Music of the Heart

Summary:  Music of the Heart by Katie Ashley

For Abby Renard, the plan was supposed to be simple—join her brothers’ band on the last leg of their summer tour and decide if she’s finally ready for the limelight by becoming its fourth member. Of course, she never imagined stumbling onto the wrong tour bus at Rock Nation
would accidentally land her in the bed of Jake Slater, the notorious womanizing lead singer of Runaway Train. When he mistakes her for one of his groupie’s, Abby quickly lets him know she sure as hell isn't in his bed on purpose.

Jake Slater never imagined the angel who fell into his bed would resist his charms by promptly kneeing him in the balls. Of course, the fact she seems like a prissy choir girl makes her anything but his type. So he is more than surprised when after betting Abby she wouldn’t last a week on their tour bus, she is more than willing to prove him wrong. But as Jake’s personal life begins to implode around him, he finds an unlikely ally in Abby. He’s never met a woman he can talk to, joke with, or most importantly make music with.

As the week starts comes to a close, neither Abby nor Jake is ready to let go. Can a sweetheart Country songstress and a bad boy of Rock N Roll actually have a future together?

Three Chicks interview Abby and Jake

" Look at how beautiful this property is. I can see why Jake comes back here to get away from it all," Lisa says, while Kristie parks the car. We all get out of the car and stretch. Kristie looks over towards the stables and then looks back at us with a smirk on her face. "I know where your mind just went Kristie, get it out of the gutter," Jen says while she is laughing. " I can't help myself I'm sorry but Jake is HOT and Abby is one lucky girl. How can you NOT think about THAT when you look at the stables?" Lisa and Jen look at each other then look over to Kristie who is walking backwards towards the front door. "You're right, I just didn't want to go there. We have an interview to do. We need to be professional now," Lisa says, trying to be serious. Kristie stops walking and says, "Have I ever been unprofessional during an interview? Come on, you two can't tell me that you haven't EVER fantasized about it?" Both Jen and Lisa blush, Kristie starts to laugh and says, "Yeah, that's what I thought."  Kristie knocks on the door and Abby answers. "Hi Abby, I'm Kristie and this is Lisa and Jen. We're the Three Chicks." Lisa reaches forward, "It's so nice to meet you. Thanks for having us here today." "It is such a beautiful day today, would you mind if we did the interview out here on the porch?" Jen asks. Abby agrees and excuses herself to go and get Jake. They both come back in the room within a few minutes. Jen stumbles over to greet Jake, extending her hand to him, "I'm Jen, these two are Lisa and Kristie." *Kristie and Lisa shake his hand* "You have such a beautiful home, thanks for having us." Jake and Abby show us to our seats, we all sit down and get comfortable. "Alright, you two ready to do this?" Kristie looks to Abby then to Jake, both of them nod in agreement..

Three Chicks:  Congratulations on your engagement! That is some ginormous diamond!! (the Three Chicks lean in to take a closer look at it) Have you set a date yet? What kind of wedding would you both like to have? Honeymoon plans???

Jake: *waggles eyebrows* Oh, I’ve got lots of plans for the Honeymoon!

Abby: *smacks his arm playfully before turning back to the Three Chicks* Thank you, ladies. I must admit that Jake has wonderful taste when it comes to rings. As for the wedding, we want to get married as soon as possible, so we’re thinking in the next six months.

Jake: We want something very low-key—probably on my farm away from the Papparazzi.

Abby: *nodding* I’d love to have a very Country Chic wedding with just our closest friends and family.

Three Chicks:  Jake, what is it about Abby that drew her to you?

Jake:  Her beauty—both inside and out. She has the most caring spirit, forgiving heart, and dorky, fun side of any girl I’ve ever known. And the fact we connected over music.

Three Chicks:  Abby, what was your first impression of Jake?

Abby: That he was a megasized hornball with eight hands.

Jake: Wow, you’re never going to let that go are you?

Abby: Your way of saying hello was to maul me.

Jake: You did kiss me back.

Abby: Whatever….

Three Chicks:  Would you both like to have kids? How many, and sooner rather than later?

Abby: *bobs head enthusiastically* I’ve always wanted a big family like the one I grew up with. *glances at Jake* I hope we don’t wait too long after we get married before we have a baby.

Jake: *exhaling a long, exaggerated breath* Um, I’d like to wait a year or two before starting a family. *Smiling at Abby’s darkening expression* I never really thought of a wife and kids until I met Abby. But seeing Brayden with Jude and Melody…I want that too. And there’s no one I want with but Abby.

Three Chicks:  Jake, how did you feel after your little show and tell party with Bree when you realized Abby was part of the unwilling audience?

Jake:  Um, like a fucking asshole! Hello? Jeez, you guys love to bring up all the times I was an utter and complete douchebag, huh? I mean, in my defense, I was completely wasted when I pulled Bree onto the bus and did what I did. *Softening his expression at Abby’s death glare* But not that being drunk makes it all right because I should have known better.

Three Chicks:  Abby, you had plenty of “firsts” with Jake, which one is your favorite?

Abby:  *Blushing* The first time we made love will always be the most special collaboration Jake and I have done.

Jake: *grinning wickedly* And here I thought you’d say your first song writing session or recording I’ll Take You with Me.

Three Chicks:  Jake, what do the guys in the band mean to you? You seem to share a close friendship with them.

Jake:  They mean everything to me. They’re like the brothers I never had. I mean, I’ve known AJ since I was ten, and then we hooked up with Brayden and Rhys about five years ago. We clicked from the beginning.

Three Chicks:  Jake, after Abby proved to you that a virgin can make a guy excited, you did good at pushing that waitress away until you didn't. Immediately you felt guilty but how did you feel when you saw the look on Abby's face?

Jakee:  I seriously hated myself for doing what I did. But being a sleaze about sex and women just doesn’t change overnight. It took me a long time to get to the point where there was no one else for me but Abby.

Three Chicks:  Abby, why did you stay on the bus, even after Jake temporarily went back to his manwhore ways?

Abby:  *Ignoring Jake’s groan* Well, I had made a bet that I would stay on the bus, and I wanted to win. I was also raised to be very forgiving of people, especially in times of emotional distress. Jake had given me tiny—okay, sometimes miniscule—glimpses into the real man within.

Three Chicks:  Jake, you were a wonderful son to your mom-tell us a little about how special she was and still is to you. Would you share a special memory that you had with her growing up?

Jake: There are way too many good memories to pick just one. She was the most devoted, loving mother anyone could ever ask for. *choking up* I’m sorry. It’s still too soon. *gratefully takes Abby’s hand when she reaches out for his*

Three Chicks:  Abby, even though you didn’t know Susan for very long, what was it about her that made her so special?

Abby:  *tearing up* The love that she had not only for Jake, but for everyone around her. She showed such courage and strength during her illness.

Three Chicks:  Abby, music is a big part of both your life and your brothers’.  Where does that come from?

Abby:  The way we were raised—we were surrounded by music growing up either in the ministry or in the places we lived. While we lived out of the country, our lives were also very simplistic. We had to make a lot of our own entertainment, and that came in the form of music. I guess you could say my brothers started it first, and then I followed suit since I was four years younger.

Three Chicks:  Jake, why did you push Abby away during your mom’s last days?  Your relationship seemed fine up until she landed on your doorstep.

Jake: I was a fucking wreck then. I’d barely slept or eaten for days. Feeling like I deserved Abby’s love has always been an issue for me. I was so broken and shattered by what was happening with my mom that I didn’t think I had anything to give her, and she deserved better than that. If you’ve never experienced overwhelmed grief, you have no idea how it can destroy you emotionally and physically. Seriously, it messes with your head.

Three Chicks:  Once you’re married what are the plans for touring-will Runaway Train still headline with Jacob’s Ladder?

Abby: Yes, we plan at least for the next year to have Jacob’s Ladder touring with Runaway Train. After that, we’ll see where it goes.

Jake: If I have my way, we’ll always be a double billed act.

Three Chicks:  Abby, do you ever worry about the temptations Jake faces while on tour?

Abby:  Yes, I do--*pauses at Jake’s wounded expression and sharp intake of breath*.  Fortunately, now that Jacob’s Ladder is touring with Runaway Train we’re together all the time. I hate to say that it’s good I get to keep an eye on him because I do trust him.

"I think that about does it." Lisa stands and we all get ready to leave. Kristie asks excitedly, "Please let us know when your next concert is, we would love to see Runaway Train and Jacob’s Ladder live in concert and see you both perform the song you wrote together." Jen and Lisa share the enthusiasm. Jen turns to Abby and gives her a hug while saying, " Again, thanks so much for your hospitality and for talking with us. It was great to meet you both." Lisa steps in to hug Abby, "You are an amazing woman, thank you again. You two make a great couple." Kristie turns to Jake and gives him a hug that lingers a bit too long, turning around to hug Abby goodbye. She is red from embarrassment, "Sorry, I couldn't help myself." Everyone laughs.
