Review and giveaway: Unexpectedly Out of Focus by Melissa Aragon

3.5 star review by Guest Reviewer Nicole Lorenzo

Mary is a wedding photographer who was quite content with the life that she had built with her husband of seven years. She loves her husband Alex, but as the years have gone on, the spark in their marriage is starting to fade. As an attorney, he has put her on the backburner, constantly working and never seems to be around.

When the sexy, British wedding photographer Bryce, is hired to work very closely with Mary, she tries to keep her distance. Bryce however makes her feel something she hasn’t felt in a long time …desired.  Mary is determined to do the right thing and stick to her marriage vows, but the closer she works with Bryce, the harder it is to resist him. While away on a weekend shoot together things intensify between Mary and Bryce and now Mary really is questioning whether she is happy in her lonely marriage.

“Try as I may my mind and my body couldn’t get on the same page when it came to him.”

Mary really isn’t necessarily a bad person. She is a great friend and tolerant wife but Bryce brings something out in her she can’t explain. Despite her efforts of staying away from him and keeping their relationship professional she just can’t get him off her mind. She does love her husband and doesn’t want to destroy him, but she finds herself evaluating the life she has made with Alex, realizing that her marriage may not be enough for her anymore, despite her vows. It doesn’t help that Bryce is hot as sin, with his sexy accent and gentlemanly ways.

Alex is a work-a-holic who doesn’t see the signs that he and Mary are drifting apart. Yes, he is trying to make partner at his firm, and he does try to make some effort throughout the book to save his marriage, but I think Mary just feels at this point it’s just too little too late.

Bryce is sexy as sin. The epitome of tall, dark and handsome; a hopeless flirt and has his sites set on Mary. I don’t condone cheating or think there is ever an excuse for it, but for some reason towards the end of the book I felt myself pulling for Mary and Bryce. Why?  Because I feel he could make her happy. Of course this is not my decision to make and the author is not done telling their story yet!

“I would never be in his position.” He sneered. “I could never let you go unnoticed and unloved”

To be honest I wasn’t completely in love with this book when I started it. As I read on though, I started to feel more of a connection to the characters and now I am invested in the story. I really can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
