Book Summary:

“Pain can leave even the strongest of people weak and hollow

Max DeLucca has spent seven years trying to forget the betrayal of his past.
He lives his life from day to day never looking forward and never looking back. The walls around his heart keep anyone from getting too close and prevent him from feeling too much… until he meets her.

Her entire life, Janie Silver searched for the kind of love that wouldn’t leave her broken and more importantly, wouldn't leave her behind. She longs for a love that can heal the wounds of her past and give her the future she knows she deserves. She thought she was looking for something that just didn’t exist…until she meets him.

Danny’s on Main is where their story begins.
A neighborhood bar where strangers become friends, friends become family
and some … become lovers

… it all started on Thursday Nights

4 Star Review

Janie and Lyla spend every Thursday night at Danny’s on Main, sharing drinks and swapping stories. These best friends have been closer than sisters for 10 years. Both have colorful past full of men. Janie has relationships with losers, men who cheated or belittled her. Lyla, she likes to have sex and then run, better known as the F and R. Lyla writes an advice column, at least that’s part of what she does. From an unknown incident in her past, she came into money and is financially secure. She also makes living writing romance novels. No knows that except Janie.  Janie was the youngest of a large family born to a drug addicted, alcoholic mother. After her father left, her much older siblings left her with her mother, knowing how she was neglected and abused. Though she has had limited contact with them over the years, she never has moved on from her painful past.

“Kid,” her mother had said, “get your shit and get out. I’m having company for at least a couple of hours. When the door is unlocked, you can come back in, but not before. You understand?”

Danny’s is their haven, the place they come to every Thursday night. The people who work there have become their adopted family are all part of the lively bar. Every Sunday night the same crew rotates dinner at Janie’s or Lyla’s. Danny and Julie, a childless couple owns the place think of Janie and Lyla as their own. Ryan and Ashley are roommates, with a complicated relationship. Kyle is a bartender who has a drinking problem. Gage frequents the place; he is Max’s best friend and has his own family dramas. He also has the hots for Lyla.

“No reason to turn around, sweetheart. You know who I am. And everything else you need to know you can feel pulsing through your body right now. Enjoy your drink. I’ll see you soon.”

And then there’s Max. Max who has carried a torch for Janie for months and has watched her date idiots, and wished somehow he could be the man she went home with instead of them.

Max has a painful history of his own. Married to a habitual cheater, who left him by informing him, she was pregnant by another man. Killed in a car accident, Max finds out that Chloe had been stashing away money her parents gave them and finds himself the unwilling recipient of a lot of cash. And baggage, tons of baggage he has held on to for years.

“I’ll never forget the look she tossed me over her shoulder as she got back in his car. Then she smiled and waved as they drove away.”

He and Janie start a “friends with benefits relationship” with Max doubting his ability to stay friends. They dance back and forth, each of them pulling away at various times. The other players in the novel all have angst and drama of their own. Some of which nicely sets up the next story in the series. Paul has written a steamy yet sweet novel about wanting what the heart wants in spite of what your mind is telling you that it cannot have. The sex in this book is off the charts; need ice cubes in your drink to cool you off kind of hot. Looking forward to more of the Charistown series.

“Janie, I’m worth so much more than my past.” He began. “I know you have doubts. I can see them written all over your beautiful face.”
