Desperate to escape the promise of backwater living, Piper ditched her Alabama hometown and never looked back. That was almost two years ago. Now that she is out of a job and her bank account is running on fumes, she’s desperate to find a job, fast. She finds the break she is searching for when she lands a position at Bookish Temptations. A little dancing and a lot of drinks with the girls seem the perfect way to celebrate. After a brief but explosive encounter with a man she was never supposed to see again turns out to be the same man she will be bending over backwards to please, her every instinct tells her to run. 4 Star Review by Guest Reviewer Nicole Lorenzo
Piper Donovan left her small backwater town in Alabama and
headed to Chicago intent on making something of herself. Jumping from job to
job she finally lands a position with Bookish Temptations as a personal assistant
to a rising author. Excited to celebrate
her newly acquired job Piper heads out to a club with her girlfriends. After a
lot of dancing and drinking Piper catches the eye of a gorgeous stranger and
finds herself in a steamy altercation with this sexy man that she’s surely
never to forget! On her first day of work Piper learns that she is the new
personal assistant to Tate Larson. Learning of his reputation as being
demanding, egotistical and hardheaded, Piper prepares herself to meet her new
boss as she heads to the coffee shop he prefers to write in. Much to Pipers
horror she realizes that she already met her new boss, he was her one night
stand from the other night!!
“You’re Tate Larson?” she screeched. He pursed his lips.
“I am. Are you the assistant?” She swallowed, her hands twisting
nervously in front of her. “Yes, that’s me.”
“Good. You’re fired.”
Despite him trying to fire her, Piper gets to work as Tate’s
assistant and she realizes exactly why his other assistants all ran out on him!
He is everything his reputation deemed him and more. He’s never happy, always
yelling and demanding and not to mention sexy as all hell. No matter how hard
she tries she can’t put that night they spent together out of her mind. Piper
knows nothing good can come from sleeping with him again, even if it was the
most erotic night of her life!
Even
though she was sure she detested the man, her body had yet to receive
the
memo.
Tate Larson is used
to getting what he wants when he wants it. Jaded from being
hurt by an ex girlfriend
he refuses to settle down again and usually spends time
with a different
woman every night. When he sees Piper in
the club that night he feels a spark he hasn’t felt in a very long time. He
pulls her into the bathroom and during an explosive rendezvous Tate breaks his
number one rule, he kisses her. Imagine his surprise when she waltzes into the
coffee shop a few days later and he realizes she is his new assistant. After a
failed attempt at firing her, Tate does what he does best, drives her crazy. He
knows sometimes he is too hard on her but she gets under his skin and no matter
what he does he can’t stop thinking about her. Working in close quarters with
Piper, he starts having feelings arise that he is not ready for, and when
another man shows interest in her, he nearly loses his mind! Before too long
they can’t deny the extreme attraction they have towards each other, and Tate
realizes that he may want a whole more from Piper.
What
he was feeling for Piper wasn’t something he could stop. It wasn’t something he
could take back or cut out or burn to ashes. It was a poison that had entered
his blood stream and ripped its way through his body and he knew the exact
moment that it happened: that first kiss.
That First Kiss by
J.C. Valentine is the second book in the Night Calls Series. I have to say I
really enjoyed this book! Tate is funny and all out sexy. Piper is stubborn and
insecure. The passion between these two lead to some hot and steamy sex scenes!
There are a few misunderstandings and a lot of denial between them, and I felt
myself getting frustrated that they wouldn’t just get together already!! I really loved the epilogue! Overall I loved
it and can’t wait to read the next book!
