Reed and Nolan’s story continues in "Going Long," sequel to "Waiting on the Sidelines."
4 Star Review by Nicole Lorenzo
Two years ago Reed Johnson came to claim Nolan’s heart. Now
as college juniors they are determined to make their long distance relationship
work. They both attend their respective colleges driving back and forth to see
each other as much as they can manage. They are truly in love but the pressures
of Reed’s impending early draft to play professional football brings forward
all of Nolan’s past insecurities. Reed wants her to transfer and move with him
wherever he gets drafted, but Nolan is hesitant to transfer schools. She has
never felt she was good enough for Reed and she’s worried that he will realize
this and break her heart. She’s also worried that if she doesn’t follow him
their relationship will be doomed. The decision to transfer schools only
becomes harder when Nolan’s world begins to crumble around her and she finds
herself hiding things from Reed and the secrets just keep piling up.
“I felt
like such a terrible person. Here he was, pausing his own dreaming just to make
me happy, and all I could do is think about how I was going to ruin it all
anyway.”
Reed knows he will always want Nolan in his life. He loves
her, and plans on marrying her in the near future. But the pressures of his
early draft seem to be weighing heavy on Nolan. His mother being so cold to her
and his new representative turning out to be a sexy blonde and not a dude
doesn’t help things. Then suddenly the
unimaginable happens and Reeds vision of his and Nolan’s future is suddenly not
as clear. Tragedy, poor decisions and misunderstandings have the potential to
end their relationship for good. When Reed learns the whole truth he decides
he’s going to fix everything, but can they move forward from here or is it too
late?
“Leaning
forward, I kissed her softly. It was our
kiss, slow, and patient and tender. She didn’t need to know how sexy I thought
she was; she needed to know I still loved her. And this kiss was the only way I
knew how.”
Going Long takes place two years after Waiting On The Sidelines
left off. We find Reed and Nolan making the best of their long distance
relationship until pressures, secrets and misunderstandings threaten to ruin
their happy ending before it has really even began. This is a story of love,
loss, trust and faith and I felt every emotion along with the characters from
the second I picked up the book. I will admit I was frustrated at times and
just wanted them to get their sh*t together already, but I was truly happy with
the ending and the way everything wrapped up so nicely. Overall I really
enjoyed this second novel by Ginger Scott- go on and read the series you won’t
be disappointed!
“I’ve
learned that sometimes love is hard. Life makes love hard, constantly pushing
against you and finding things to throw in your way. And sometimes those things
knock you down. But then you get up. You get up, because that person, the one
you love more than anything on earth… well, putting it bluntly, like my father
taught me, they make getting your ass knocked down worth the trouble.”
