Blog Tour: Rock the Beat by Michelle Valentine

Synopsis:

Twenty-year-old Holly Pearson never dreamed that while working at her father’s motocross track she’d run into the walking, talking definition of trouble in a sexy, tattooed package—Trip Douglas, the man sent to evaluate the track for a possible investment opportunity. Holly makes no attempt to hide the fact she despises Trip, but she learns to be civil toward him when he offers to help her land the man of her dreams.

Trip needs a break from the crazy rock-and-roll lifestyle he’s been living for the past few years. With his Black Falcon band mates settling down with marriage and babies, Trip peruses an investment opportunity in motocross, something he’s always been passionate about. Hiding his celebrity status, Trip infiltrates the new business posing as a dirt bike rider training for the X-Games. The only obstacle is the owner’s daughter, Holly. She’s a real ball bustin' Ice Queen, and she’ll do whatever it takes to make the deal fall through. Trip soon discovers that winning over his new enemy is the key to gaining a partnership in Mountain Time Speed Track.

Knowing he’s the expert on getting laid, Trip ropes Holly into becoming his ally by helping her score a date with the man she’s crushing on. The problem is, the more time Trip and Holly spend together, the more they uncover the undeniable attraction between them. Soon they both realize that even the best laid plans go to hell when you find you’re falling in love with the enemy.

**Book THREE in the Black Falcon series. Can also be read as a stand-alone novel**

4.5 Star review by Amy Bustard

Finally Tripp’s story! Bad Boy Drummer for Black Falcon! With the band on break due to the recent births of Noel and Riff’s babies, Tripp Douglas decides to check out a struggling motocross track in Arizona that has him interested and he is thinking of making an investment. Wanting to learn the daily operations of the track and why it hit rock bottom; Tripp goes to the track as “the guy”, the investor sent to check out the track prior to making a decision.

Holly Pearson is home from college to help her father out at his failing motocross track. Hoping to take the opportunity to re-strengthen her relationship with her longtime boyfriend Jackson, Holly is blindsided when Jackson stands her up for their anniversary dinner and finds out later that he had been cheating on her while
she was away at college, breaking her heart. When Holly’s best friend Max drags her out of bed to go out and celebrate her twentieth birthday, Holly gets pretty drunk and lets her guard down while on the dance floor allowing Jackson to slip from her mind.

Normally, I’m reserved, but tonight I’m cutting loose and living up being single. I need a break from my straight-laced life. Half way into the song, a body presses up against my back, dancing in time with me. That didn’t take long. I tug at the bottom of my little black dress down around my thighs. The dang thing rides up every time I move and it’s on my last nerve.

The music pumps all around me and the faceless stranger while the amount of alcohol I’ve consumed has my head swimming. I close my eyes and lean my head back against the hard chest behind me and breathe in the spicy scent of the men’s cologne. He smells mouthwatering, and I just pray that when I turn around he’s as hot as I’m imagining.

And this is where Holly first meets Trip…

He pulls away and leans his forehead against mine. “Come home with me.” My heart thunders in my chest as his tongue darts out and licks my lips before my drunken brain has time to process his request. “I promise you’ll love the way I f**k you.”

Exactly what Holly thinks she needs…

When the night doesn’t go as planned and Holly ends up going home alone she is more than grateful the next morning when the green-eyed devil from the club that she never wanted to see again walks thru her door at Mountain Time Speed Track. Acting as though he doesn’t remember her, Holly becomes irritated and words fly until her father reprimands her letting her know that Tripp is there on behalf of the potential investor and they need him there in order for their business survive. However, they are unaware that Tripp is the investor. Holly has no choice but to make nice with Tripp to help save the track.

Holy walks around the counter to face me and I smile. As much as I wouldn’t mind f**king this girl, I need to keep my d**k in my pants. I need her on my side- sleeping with her would only complicate the hell out of this business deal. No way do I want to deal with a woman I’ve one-nighted for years to
come. That’s just bad for business.

Both Holly and Tripp try to work on just being friends. One night while the two are out to dinner they run into Jackson. He notices Holly out with a new guy and assumes she must be working on his replacement. Nothing makes a man more interested in his ex but a rival for her affection. Not only does Jackson now want Holly, but Tripp wants Holly as well. With her father being ill, and the track falling apart- things start
to spiral downhill for Holly. When secrets unfold and further complications arise, what will happen when Holly finds out Tripp’s true identity?

What I truly loved about this book was that Tripp’s issue that Riff talked about in Rock my World is revealed. The reader has more insight into his background and his lifestyle and why he is such a man whore.. Holly‘s character brings another strong female to the series and new opportunities are opened. When a secret is revealed to Tripp, the fate of Black Falcon may be on the line..

I look forward to the next book to see the outcome…

Excerpt

“I’m Trip Douglas. It looks like you and I will be getting cozy while you show me the ins and outs of this place.”

I stare down at his hand. Ugh. This is so not happening to me. Our family business is going down the freaking toilet and I have to depend on the guy who thinks with his dick to pull us out of the hole? Maybe the investor can send someone else? Anyone else! No way is some rich, old dude relying solely on Trip’s judgments of the place to make a huge financial commitment? This guy can’t be trusted with something so important. This guy can’t stick with the same woman for five minutes, let alone see such a huge business deal through.

Trip wiggles his fingers at me. “Come on. They won’t bite.”

Dad needs this partnership to work for the sake of the track. He told me last week how important it was for this business to get it. If it doesn’t go through, we’re in big trouble.

Reluctantly, I take his hand. It’s warm and rough against my own skin and it’s hard not to think about the way he felt pressed against me last night as he gives it a couple of quick shakes. “Holly Pearson.”
