Review and Giveaway: Text by Cambria Hebert

***This is a new adult contemporary novel and contains sexual content and graphic language. It is not intended for young adult readers.***

Honor Calhoun never thought her life would ever be like the books she writes for a living. One morning while out for a run, she learns not all bad things are plots in novels. Some horrors can actually come true.

She faces off with a persistent attacker, holds her own, but in the end is taken hostage and thrown into a hole. In the middle of the woods.

But Honor didn’t go down there alone.

She took her kidnapper’s phone with her. But with a spotty signal and a dying battery, hope is slim.

Nathan Reed is an active duty Marine stationed at a small reservist base in Pennsylvania. All he wants is a calm and uneventful duty station where he can forget the memories of his time in a war-torn country.

But a single text changes everything.

Nathan becomes Honor’s only hope for survival, and he has to go against the clock, push aside his past, and take on a mission for a girl he’s never met.

Both of them want freedom… but they have to survive long enough to obtain it.

4.5 Star Review by Allison East

I love to read, clearly that's evident from the books that I review for my Chicks. I'm pretty much set in my genre- romance. But there is such a broad spectrum out there now. I really enjoy romantic suspense because you get intrigue and sex, what more could you ask for?

Cambria Hebert has the Take it Off series, all are stand alones and can be read as such. I had the privilege of reading and reviewing Text.

Text starts off easy enough- following Honor Calhoun, romance novel writer extraordinaire, going for a jog- when she gets abducted and tossed down a hole. Seriously, in the woods in a giant hole- talk about nightmares for life! The only thing her abductor doesn't know is she's managed to steal his phone. She gets one text and it changes her life forever.

Nathan Reed is a marine over at his friends house for a poker game- when a guy they play with doesn't show, he shoots off a quick text, and it changes his life forever.

The whole time you are on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next. If Honor will survive. And if Nathan will rescue her like he has promised.

I can't quite make the book 5 stars because there are some questions that go unanswered- for example why the abductor took her and other victims? There was never any mention of that.

I gave it 4.5 because the hero was a strong alpha, and the heroine was full of sass. Also some steamy sex scenes, it was a happily ever after and a stand alone. It was also very well written, all earning stars in my book for sure!

Pick up this book along with the three others, and look for Tipsy, which comes out before the new year.

Enjoy!!

  3. As soon as I purchased TEXT, I started to read it and I could not stop I kept reading all the way up to the end and had to get dressed and get to work in less than 10 minutes. Even though I just made it I could not stop thinking of the book and talked about it to my co workers.
The book was so gripping, that you just HAD to keep reading. I wish it was a series maybe it can be with the way that Nathan told Honor at the end that his friend and him were starting a security company...hint! hint! Cambria;) Cambria is a great author and I will always read her books.
