Review: Just One Week by Stacey Lynn

Synopsis

Two years ago, Mia had everything she thought she wanted. She loved her job, and her best friend Nicole was finally recovering from losing her family in a car accident. When they met rock star Zack Walters and given backstage pages for his concert in their hometown of Minneapolis, Mia had no idea she would get involved with the band’s drummer, Chase Harper. It was simple, fun, and exactly what Mia liked best – no strings attached.

Then Chase decided to change the rules and Mia did what she’s always done best: she ran.

Now she’s on her way to Los Angeles to help Nicole get ready for her wedding to Zack. The one thing she’s not looking forward to is seeing Chase again. With his sculpted muscles, strong hands and dark gray eyes that seem to know everything she’s thinking – Chase has the ability to make her forget. He also has the power to make her feel, something Mia refuses to let happen.

When everything around Mia’s life begins to crumble, and she keeps all of her secrets tucked close and hidden away, Chase is the one who steps in to help.

Because he has decided that he isn’t letting her go again. Not until she finally admits she’s his.

4 star review by Jen Skewes

We first met Mia and Chase in Just One Song which I loved.  Chase and Mia were the best friends of the main characters in Just One Song.  they were their to help their friends stay together and at the same time enjoyed each others company as well.  It is now two years later and Chase and Mia are not speaking to each other.

Mia was always there for her best friend Nicole.  We saw her help Nicole through a rough time in her life and she was even there for her to help her moved forward.  She wanted to see Nicole move on from the past and be happy.  Just One Week is Mia's story and we see a different side of Mia.  While all the advice she has given to her friend about being happy and moving on should also apply to herself, it doesn't.  Mia has a past too.  One that has caused her to put walls up and not let anyone in.  She doesn't want a relationship for fear of getting hurt.  In her mind everyone leaves.  When things start to get too close or too complicated she tends to run.  Chase and her have had the perfect relationship in her mind.  Friends with benefits and nothing more.  Except Chase now wants more, more than Mia is willing to give.

Chase looks like this big tattoed, rocker bad boy but deep down he is just a big teddy bear.  He wants Mia and he knows that she has issues and that a commitment is not something she is willing to give him.  But that doesn't mean that he is so willing to give up on her.  He sees an opportunity to spend some time with her and to convince and show her how much he wants her, ALL of her.  He basically sweeps her off her feet and takes her away.  Nicole is not too happy but after spending more time together she thinks that maybe they can have something.  Maybe for once she is willing to let her guard down and try to give Chase more.  But as soon as something goes wrong, Mia feels the urge to run again.  Mia has a secret that she is not ready to tell anyone just yet.  What happens when Chase finds out the truth?  When Mia decides to run again and shut Chase out, will he let her go this time or will he fight for the woman he loves?

I just have to say that I loved Mia in Just One Song but she completely frustrated me in this one.  Chase was amazing.  The kind of guy that every woman wants.  While he is this big sexy rock star he has a heart.  He was fine with having one night stands, and meaningless sex until Mia came along.  And now that he has had her he cannot let her go.  He is falling in love with her and wants to be with her.  And he will do anything to convince her of that.  But Mia on the other hand just keeps fighting the feelings between them.  She knows how Chase feels, and knows than most woman in her position would jump at the chance to be with him, but she keeps pulling away.  At some point you do learn the reasons behind Mia's resistance to love and see that there is more going on in her life than she wants to admit.  And you start to become a little more sympathetic towards her but at the same time you still want to slap some sense into her.

I really enjoyed this book and am hoping that we get to see more of these characters in the future.  I loved that we still got to see Nicole and Zack.  Chase and Mia's story was filled with some drama and angst, a few twist and turns, and make you frustrated.  But it has it sweet tender moments as well.  You will fall in love with  Chase.   I loved that he was the one to go after Mia and prove his love.  Their road to happiness wasn't an easy one but one that leaves you happy and smiling in the end.
