Review and Giveaway: Picking up the Pieces by Elizabeth Hayley

After a myriad of mistakes and a devastating breakup, Lily Hamilton is no longer the impulsive, selfish person she had once been. Now, she longs for the chance to make it up to the one person she knows holds the key to her happiness. But can he get beyond who she was and love her for who she is now? Or is history destined to repeat itself?

Adam Carter has gone through his own metamorphosis. His days of serial monogamy are long gone, and he's been burying his hurt by dating women he has no intention of committing to. But when he sees Lily for the first time in months, he's reminded of the man he used to be; the man he wants to try and be again--for her.

Max Samson is on the downward spiral from hell. Drinking and meaningless sex have taken over his life once again, causing him to revert back to the man he'd been before Lily fell into his life. But when his mother invites Lily back into his world, he suddenly remembers how good it felt to have her there. Even if he might not get to keep her.

Find out how Lily gets her happily ever after in this final installment of her story. This book is recommended for mature audiences due to language and unbelievably awesome sexual content.

5 Fantastic Stars!

Review by Allison East

Never has a book with a love triangle wrecked me more than Pieces of Perfect. There was no closure, and it was all I thought about for weeks. So when I got an advance copy, I was more than willing to read- because, after all- she was going to pick between Max and Adam. Then I wouldn’t feel like I needed a paper bag to breathe into so much anymore. I would know where Lily stood. Do you know how difficult it is for an author to make you fall in love with both men? I mean there was always one I was leaning towards anyway- but still. If anything I would have been ok with both of those choices for her. And do you know how excruciating it was for me not to flip to the last page and find out who that guy was? My will power is strong- and I don’t normally do that kind of thing, but man did I want to.

It starts off five months after Lily has lost both men. And I love that it is written from all three of their perspectives. Max was of course doing what he does best, trying to dull the pain with alcohol and sex. But he won’t ever forget those hazel eyes he once looked into as the love of his life walked away from him.

“You know, you can sleep your way through this entire state, Max. It’ll never fill the void she left. It’ll only make it deeper.”

Then it flips to Lily- who keeps thinking she sees Adam in the coffee shop.

“The man wasn’t him. I’d just wanted it to be.”

She is trying to get over her internal demons, that she basically ruined three lives- the day she decided to sleep with two men at the same time- and keep one from the other. She ruined her life, because now she didn’t have either. Max’s life, because he was truly in love with her for the first time in his life, and he wanted to be with her and give her more- but she wouldn’t let him. And Adam’s life- because he was ready to commit, ready to lay his life down on the line for her. I think after five months, she could finally admit that her feelings for both of the men were very real, and that she held a special place in her heart for the both of them.

“I had tried to convince myself incessantly that we shared only a physical connection. Even when I hadn’t been able to deny that there was something there, I convinced myself that it paled in comparison to what I had with Adam. But now, I wasn’t so sure of that.”

The reason why I love Elizabeth and Hayley’s writing so much- is because wrapped around the romance, is humor, angst, and drama. I love watching all of that unfold and play out- and hopefully it was going to be how I wanted it to end.

I wanted to hate Max for being the eternal playboy at the beginning of the book, and I wanted to hate Adam for trying to do the same- but I just couldn’t. I felt like the reason why Lily liked Adam so much in the first book was because he fit her mold of what a perfect man should be. And Max destroys the mold.

Max really becomes a great friend to her again, which is what I loved about him in the first book. That with ease, they were friends first. A good, solid foundation- maybe it did start with sex, but they really did have a great rapport with each other.

“I looked into her eyes and enjoyed the happiness I saw there. Enjoyed how well she fit into my family. Enjoyed how at ease she looked. I swore to myself right then that I would do everything in my power to keep the stress out of our friendship.”

And Adam goes out with her again- but definitely has insecurities with Lily. I don’t blame him one single bit, he was destroyed after what happened and he wanted to be cautious with his heart this time. Their encounters are sweet and charming. He had conflicting thoughts too, just as Lily has had.

“But when we were together, I wasn’t sure that we actually fit all that well together. It was all this baffling bull#### that had kept me from really pressing our relationship beyond a friends who make out status.”

And so the back and forth continues- she loves Max, she loves Adam, she can’t love them both. It would have been a difficult decision for anyone I think. Lily was really hard on herself a lot throughout the first half.

“Who are you?” I asked my reflection. I stood in front of the mirror, looking at myself. Really looking. I felt like I was the Lily of eight months ago: desperate for approval from the man I wanted but still f##ked it all up. Weak and vulnerable, the glimpse of the old Lily was sobering.”

And of course Amanda and Shane are back- from Sex Snob- and they kill me. The Thanksgiving scene was probably one of my favorites- and this line: (love her!)

“Jesus Shane, you might want to adjust your broner. People can see it through your shorts.”

“My what?” Shane asked.”

“Your broner. It’s a boner for another dude.”

All in all, another freaking great story from Elizabeth and Hayley. I can’t wait to read about more of their antics. And I definitely am going to put Perfectly Ever After on my Goodreads list. It is the novella about the guy Lily DIDN’T choose- and how his own happily ever after turned out. And because I helped to name it. Just saying, it’s the truth! 5 fantastic stars and I will read anything these two lovely ladies put out, as should you.
