Blog Tour: Tempting Rowan by Micalea Smeltzer

Tempting Rowan
I’m drowning in the numbness. It’s pulling me under and I can’t see the surface. It’s easier to pretend I can’t feel. And the longer you pretend, the easier it is to believe. But he wants to save me. Only he can’t. I have to save myself…and I don’t know if I want to.   Rowan Sinclair’s life has been anything but easy. With an alcoholic mother and a sleazy stepfather, it’s been her responsibility to raise her younger siblings. At twenty-one she’s chained to a life she doesn’t want, but sees no other alternative. After all, what would happen to her brother and sister if she were to leave?   Trenton Wentworth sees the pain behind Rowan’s eyes. He wants nothing more than to make it disappear. To hold her. To love her. Except Rowan keeps everyone at a safe distance. But if there’s anyone that can break down the walls she’s built around herself, it’s Trent. So she avoids him at all costs. But Trent isn’t one to be easily evaded. He’s stubborn and determined. He’ll save this girl even if it costs him everything.

Love, lies, and deception.

That’s the name of the game when you’re Tempting Rowan.

4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes

I love this series and absolutely adored Olivia and Trace in the first two books. I couldn't wait for Trent's story and I have to say that Micalea Smeltzer did such an amazing job with this story.  I felt all of the emotions that Trent and Rowan felt. It was an emotional roller coaster ride and you may want to have a few tissues handy.

Rowan is just 21 years old but she has had more responsibilities than most girls her age. Her mother is a drunk, her step father is a sleezeball,  and her real father left when she was little. Her mother is both verbally and physically abusive to her and basically tells her how worthless she is, when in reality it is just the opposite.  At 21 years of age Rowan should be worrying about her friends, her classes, boys, what she will be doing on her weekends, the normal stuff that most college aged girls worry about.  But life for Rowan is not the norm. She has been taking care of her brother and sister for as long as she can remember.  She works hard, goes to school and is more of a mother to those two kids than her mother ever was.  Rowan deserves happiness and love in her life, but the meaning of love to Rowan has been scarred because of her childhood.  There is one person in her past that has always been there for her.  One person who understood her and loved her.  But she pushed him away the minute he expressed his true feelings.  And now five years later he wants her back.

Trent Wentworth grew up in a very privileged household.  Never wanting for anything.  He is one of the sweetest, caring young men out there.  He has loved Rowan since they were 16 and never cared what her family life was like. But for Rowan, Trent is so far out of her league that she feels she doesn't deserve him and pushes him away. But Trent knows and feels what is between them.  And he will do what it takes to make her his.  But Rowan has a secret from her past.   And once that secret comes out it could ruin any chance that they have together.

Trent was just amazing.  His caring and thoughtful ways will completely melt you heart.  If you loved Trace in the first books then would will fall in love with his brother. My heart broke for Rowan for what she went through.  But she is one strong woman who will do what it takes to make sure her siblings are cared for, loved and have a good life. But despite her strength when it comes to those two kids, she has her own insecurities, not feeling that she deserves the love that Trent has for her.  As much as she wants to be with him she knows that he deserves better.

Tempting Rowan was a fantastic read. When Rowan's secret comes out I was so afraid of what would happen next. I loved them together and knowing this secret could destroy their love just made my heart ache for them.  And if that heartache wasn't enough there was this "holy crap" moment where I found myself with tears in my eyes praying that it would all be ok.  It's was an emotional story, between the moments that followed the big secret reveal, to the way Rowan's mother treated her to her own insecurities about how worthless she felt at times.  But it also had those moments that will melt your heart.  I loved every minute of it.  Ms. Smeltzer knows how to draw you in.  She knows how to make you feel the pain and the emotion of her characters.  I think she completely outdid herself with this one. I honestly didn't see the twists coming and when they did I was afraid of where it was heading.  What I also loved was that we also got an added bonus in the form for Trace and Olivia.   I especially loved the moments towards the end with Trace and how amazing and understanding he was.  Excellent job.   Cannot wait for the next one.

I bumbled towards the exit and in my haste one of my books slid from my arms and landed on the floor. I was tempted to leave it, glaring at the treacherous book, but a tan arm was already snaking out and picking it up. The person placed it back on the stack in my arms and I swallowed thickly, refusing to look up. But I felt his stare and I knew it was Trent standing before me. Slowly, I looked up and my hazel eyes connected with his. Looking at him was like taking a punch to the gut—leaving me breathless with a pain I couldn’t understand.   “Row,” he beamed, and the way he said my name made me squirm…and not in bad way. But oh how I wished I didn’t enjoy hearing my name leave his kissable lips.   I tucked a piece of light brown hair behind my ear. “Trenton,” I stared at his shoes. They were black motorcycle boots with heavy silver buckles. I wondered if they were real motorcycle boots or just designer ones.   “My face is up here,” he said in that deep husky voice with a slight chuckle.   I forced my head up and met his eyes. His dark hair was longer on top and shorter on the sides. His chin was dotted in a light dusting of stubble like he’d forgotten to shave this morning. Beneath his leather jacket he wore a navy t-shirt and his jeans looked well worn, even though I knew he could afford new ones.   “What are you doing here?” I stuttered, looking around for a means of escape. I needed to get away from him before I did something stupid…like give into the temptation of Trenton.   Brilliant question, Rowan. I scolded myself when I realized what I’d asked him. Sometimes, words just seemed to fly from my mouth without me thinking through what I was about to say. I really needed to work on that.   He chuckled, licking his lips. “It’s a library. There’s usually only one reason to be here.”   “Usually?” I questioned with a raised brow. What other reason would one have for coming to the library?   His smile widened. “Well,” he leaned towards me, his lips grazing the shell of my ear, “if you’re really quiet you can always have sex.” He pulled back, laughing at my wide-eyed expression. “I always did have a naughty librarian fantasy.” He looked me up and down and a blush stained my cheeks in what I was sure was an unflattering shade of red.
