Landon Stone has it all. Autumn McCray has lived in the same small town her whole life. Being tormented and bullied throughout high school, she has those constant reminders surrounding her every day. Having put most of those demons behind her, she’s forced to confront them once again and find her inner strength in order to move forward.

Landon is a star quarterback for an NFL team when he
unexpectedly hears the words no young athlete wants to hear –
“retirement.” He has suffered too many
knee injuries to continue in this full contact sport. His wife has been with him throughout his
career, from their time in high school to his draft pick following college
graduation. Landon is now seeing a new side to his wife
that either he was blinded by love to see before or she was good at covering
her tracks. Landon has no choice but to
return to his hometown and share a living habitat with his parents. Landon is back nursing both his knee and his
heart. His wife didn’t like the way
their life was heading – down a road that didn’t include a lot of zeros—so she
is making his life a living hell.
I’m quickly losing
control over everything in my life right now, kind of like a domino
effect. Everything seems to spur the
disaster on.
While he is back in town, Landon is able to get to know
Autumn in a new light. In high school
Landon was the popular guy dating the head cheerleader, and Autumn was the girl
trying to get through each day with her dignity still intact. Autumn stays away from anybody and anything
that reminds her of those horrible years.
Landon sees something in Autumn that he wants more of – an easygoing
relationship that isn’t based on his bank account balance. Landon is starting to piece his life together
again after losing everything he thought he would have forever. He sees a bright future…
This is going to be
a good thing for me, I can feel it. I
thought my life was over after football, but this is just a new beginning.
You know the entire book can’t be sugary and sweet,
right? Of course there’s going to be
some misunderstandings and lies told.
Landon was a very sweet guy and I enjoyed the chapters that were told in
his point of view. Autumn was a very
nice girl, but I didn’t bond with her. She
did have a very hellacious adolescence so I need to cut her some slack. Overall, it’s a good quick read that is a
great filler between angsty reads.
In a quiet, husky tone, Landon says, “I don’t know what it is about you, but I can’t help myself. I want to devour every inch of your skin every second I’m with you, and I think about all the places I want to feel you when I’m not.” And if I didn’t need new panties before, I definitely do now. I’ve never had a guy turn me on like this with simple words. His eyes remain on the road, but each syllable has left a hot trail straight to my most intimate parts. Because my brain has completely fizzled out, I’m left speechless. “Did I scare you?” He glances over at me with a sexy grin on his face.
“No, just processing. I’ve never had a guy talk to me that way before.” I look out my window, nervous to meet his eyes.
“And how am I talking to you?” His tone is commanding, like he wants to hear exactly what he does to me.
“Like you’re going to eat me alive and do things I couldn’t possibly recover from.” My voice comes out breathy as my own desires become quite obvious.
“I wouldn’t mind eating something, but I promise you’ll survive it, sweetheart. Barely.” My eyes widen and my skin instantly heats up all over. He gives me a knowing look and responds with a wink. My mouth goes completely dry and I suddenly have a very vivid imagination that runs wild with all the things he could do to me.
