Review: Girl Code by LD Davis

When Tabitha and her best friend Leslie were young, they made a pact to never get involved with the same guy. That wasn’t a problem for Tabitha, especially as far as Leo Pesciano was concerned. Tabitha hated the guy. It didn’t matter that he was good looking and all of the other girls drooled over him, and Leslie had a big crush on him. He was obnoxious and loved to rile Tabitha up; but when she is faced with life-altering challenges, Leo becomes her protector and her friend. There is a strong chemistry between them that Tabitha tries very hard to ignore, but Leo doesn’t make it easy. After an explosive end to their friendship during their college years, more than nine years later they are reunited and Tabitha is again resistant to the attraction she feels to Leo. Time, distance, and new lives have come between Leslie and Tabitha over the years, and they rarely speak or see each other, but Tabitha holds strong to the girl code they created when they were children. Her loyalty to her old friend is admirable, but will this same loyalty destroy her chances of a happily ever after?

5 Star Review by Jen Skewes

I love everything that LD Davis writes.  She creates these characters that you love but at the same time become so frustrated with.  I love the angst that she delivers in her books and I love how she just makes you feel every emotion right along with her characters.  And Girl Code was no different.  I loved Leo and Tabby but at times became so frustrated with their decisions.  This is a story about friendship, love and loyalty.

Tabby and Leslie were best friends growing up and had a code.  The “Girl Code”.  The code basically stated if one of them looked are, dated, liked, fell in love with a boy then he was completely off limits to the other.  Being a young girl and your best friend being the most important person in your life at that moment, the code seemed reasonable and something that they could both adhere too.  But life isn’t always that simple and loyalties are tested.

Leslie started dating Leo which was completely fine with Tabby because she hated Leo.  The two of them were constantly bickering and Tabby just didn’t like him.  But things change.  And Tabby begins to see that there is more to Leo that she really thinks.    He tends to always be there for her when she needs a friend the most.  He is there for comfort, support and to protect her.  They have this connection and honestly I think their connection and friendship was much deeper than what she had with Leslie.  But no matter what feelings Tabby started to have for Leo he was completely off limits and always would be no matter what.  Loving someone that you know you cannot have is not easy especially when you are still friends with that person.  So when things start to become complicated between Tabby and Leo the only thing to do is move forward and end their friendship.

Fast forward years later when Tabby and Leo meet again. The chemistry is still there.  And no matter what anyone says so is the love.  Leo and Taby were meant to be together.  Leo has not loved anyone like he has loved Tabby.  But there is still that one little issue that is keeping them apart.  Yes you guessed it, the girl code.  Will Tabby risk losing her friendship for love?

First I have to say that I adored Leo.   I loved how he was always there for her when she was younger.  No matter how much she tried to push him away he didn’t let her.  I loved the friendship that they built.  You could just feel the chemistry and connection between the two of them from the very beginning.  There were times when I wanted to just slap the both of them for their decisions that they made but I never stopped rooting for them to be together.   I loved Tabby, I really did but I wished for a moment she thought of herself and let the code go out the window.  In my opinion she deserved all of the happiness in the world and she was just too loyal, almost to a fault.

Girl Code has the angst and drama that you would expect from LD Davis.  She knows how to get your heart pumping like no other.   You felt the emotions of these two characters.  I experienced the pain and heartache right along with them.  Their journey was one that was filled with a lot of bumps along the way.  I was happy and smiling one minute, and crushed the next, and then felt that happiness come back only for my stomach to drop and feel that heart break again.  But in the end I was left with a smile on my face.  Tabby and Leo were perfect together.  I was not a big fan of Leslie’s at all but that is all that I will say about that.  Girl Code is a must read. Another amazing job by LD Davis.
