4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes
Oh My God!! I am not
even sure where to start with this review, except to first that I loved this
book so freakin much. I think the first
book or series that I read by Kele Moon was the Battered Hearts series and have
ben a fan of her sever since. I have
read all of her boos and loved every one of them for different reasons. The slayer is book two in the Untamed Hearts
series, which is a spinoff of the Battered Hearts series. And can I say that between both of these
series, the books just keep getting better and better. The Slayer by far being my favorite one and Chuito,
oh that man completely had me from the start.
Chuito has been living in the small town of Garnet for about
five years now. We have met him in the
other books in both series. He moved there
5 years ago to start training to be a UFC fighter but at the same time he was
also trying to break free from his addiction and his life back home. Hoping to make something of himself so he can
go back home and take care of his mother.
Chuito grew up in a world of crime, drugs, violence and guns. A very dangerous way to live. But that was his life and that was all that
he knew. So by moving to Garnet he can
somewhat escape the gangster life even if temporarily.
Chuito meets his neighbor Alaine one night in a very
unexpected way. He is trying to fight
his addiction and doing it all on his own.
But Alaine comes into his life and for some reason this beautiful, innocent and naïve girl trusts him and wants to help him. There is no denying his attraction to her
but he knows that she is way too good for him.
And getting involved with her will only ruin her and put her in harm’s
way. But over time these two become very
close in a very platonic way. Alaine
wants more, she wants her love story and her happily ever after and for her, Chuito is it. But Chuito has no plans of
being that man in her life. He cares too
much for her to destroy her. No matter how much he tries to fight it he can’t
stop the feelings that he has for her.
Will they give in to the feelings that they have for each other? And will Alaine finally get her love story
with the man that she has loved for five long years?
There was so much that I loved about this book. First there was Chuito. There is just something about this man. He is a bad boy to the core. And I’m not talking the alpha male, man whore type of bad boy. I am talking a real
bad boy who does things that if caught will send him to prison. He’s the type of person that girls like
Alaine should stay away from. But I
understood why she fell in love with him.
Yes he is hard core but beneath the surface is also a man with feelings
and a heart. He loved Alaine even if he
couldn’t admit to just how much. And trying his hardest to stay away was proof that he loved her. He didn’t want her to get messed up in his
life. He may be living in Garnet and
right now he is at the top Of his game career wise, but he has made decisions
in his life that can still in some way affect her. And he would do anything to protect her and
keep her safe, even if that means pushing her away.
Alaine is sweet, innocent, beautiful and a preacher’s
daughter. What I loved about her was her
strength, to stand up to her father when
she needed to. But it was also the
strength and determination that she had when it came to Chuito. She loved that man completely. And she loved him for who he was. She didn’t care that her father hated him, or
that her friends warned her to stay away.
She knew loving him was dangerous but she would rather live the
dangerous life with him than a life without him.
There were two relationships that I loved in this book. The first, of course being Alaine and
Chuito. They were just perfect for each
other. You could feel how much they
loved each other. And I was rooting for them to find their love story together. But the other
relationship that I loved was the one that Chuito had with Tino. What happens when you put an Italian mobster
and a Latino gangster together? You get
one hell of an awesome bromance. These
two together will for one make you laugh.
It was the bickering between them but also how much they cared. They had each other backs no matter
what. Their friendship at times was
tested but they proved over and over again how much they meant to each other.
The Slayer was an amazing read. It starts out in the present, but at times
goes back to the past so we see how Alaine and Chuito’s friendship
started. We see how they both got to
this point. This is a love story between
two people who came from completely opposite sides of the tracks. But for some reason they just fit
together. Chuito lived a life filled
with crime. And what I loved was that
his character was written in a way that stayed true to who he was. We still saw the dangers of the life he lived
and how much it affected those around him.
We still saw who Chuito truly was. And to me that it what made this book perfect. Because Alaine loved him no matter what. I had so many feelings while reading this
book. The anticipation of wanting Alaine
and Chuito to finally cross the line of friendship. There were those stomach dropping moments
where I feared what would happen next, afraid to swipe the screen of my I-pad
to turn the page. But there were also
happy moments that just made me smile. And
just the right amount of humor added in.
I loved revisiting with some of my favorite characters from
this series. And the ending was
fantastic. It leaves you wanting more
and also gives you a look into Tino’s story which I will be patiently waiting for.
He swallowed hard, and his voice was still full of pain. “I just can’t. I shouldn’t even touch you.”
“You drink,” she pointed out. “You’re not addicted to that.”
“Alcohol is not my drug of choice. It’s the exact opposite of it.”
“I’m not cocaine,” she reminded him.
“That’s what you think?” He glanced at her over his shoulder, his dark gaze running over her for one long, hot moment until it stopped to rest on the pink lace of her bra.
“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.”
