Title: Dirty (Vengeance Duet, #1)
Author: A.C. Bextor
Genre: Contemporary/MC Romance
Release Date: July 15, 2015
Synopsis
Dirty.
Imprisoned in a small room within the walls of the Satan's Creed Motorcycle Club compound, Casey Richards struggles to survive the only life she was raised to know. Her mother, a club whore, and her father, an unknown outlaw she’s never met, Casey’s fate is all but sealed in the eyes of the club.
Foul. Unclean. Undesirable.
Trapped in a loveless marriage, and with no children of her own, Emma Carsen is the only living soul willing to fight for her niece, Casey. She’s all but given up on saving her until the one man she’s longed to see again unexpectedly finds his way back to town and into her life.
Sordid. Vile. Unscrupulous.
Max Taylor, former-biker of a disbanded MC, has been holding onto reasons to avoid coming back to the small town he grew up in. The same ghosts that drove him away eventually force Max to find his way back. Now that he's home, he may be Casey’s only chance for freedom.
Filthy. Hateful. Impure.
In order to get to Casey, Max must find a way to infiltrate the MC. Setting up a meet with Hoss, Satan's Creed’s President who’s known for his depravity as much as his double-crossing ways, it’s made clear that forming an alliance is going to be more of a challenge than he expected. Now he must prove his loyalty to the club and in doing so, he’s forced to get his hands…
DIRTY.
4 Star Review by Jen Hagen
I have to admit I was a little confused by the
cover. On first glance and at first
quick read of the blurb, I couldn’t decide if this was going to be a good guy
from the get-go or the bad guy turned good guy.
My mind works in mysterious ways…anyways the cover is of a VERY good guy
and it fits his description to a tee with his muscles and grey hair. Max is in his 40s and is still smoking
hot. I love when I can connect with a
male character where I am not twice his age! It makes me feel not so dirty…ß
see what I did there??
Max has returned to his hometown after being away 13
years. He left in a hurry to escape his
haunted memories but his memories followed him wherever he went. He has returned to hopefully find vengeance
and eventually peace. Max’s past has
involved being associated with Satan’s Creed, the local motorcycle club,
although he was never a full-fledged member. After he left home he once again
found himself seeking the lifestyle of a motorcycle club and eventually found
himself being a member.
Em is the same age as Max, and Em’s younger sister, Dee
Dee, was the girl that held Max’s attention for years. Unfortunately these days Dee Dee has found
herself wrapped up in the drugs and alcohol lifestyle of the Satan’s Creed motorcycle
club and her boyfriend, Hangar, is the most psychotic MC member you will ever
find. I have read a lot of MC books and
have come across a lot of characters that don’t seem quite right in the head,
but Hangar wins the most psychotic prize!
Not only has Dee Dee endangered her own life, but her 12-year-old
daughter, Casey, is being housed separately and chained. Dee Dee is so strung out she doesn’t even
realize what predicament her daughter is in.
Em used to be able to see Casey at the MC, but within the last year they
have cut off any visits between the aunt and niece. Em has tried unsuccessfully to involve local
law authorities, but everybody is bought by the MC.
Em is married to a tool.
He is a lawyer and commutes to a larger city. What Em ever saw in him is beyond me. Em wants a family…husband does not. I think Em settled when Max left town as she
secretly crushed on her sister’s boyfriend and realized there would never be
anything between the two of them. What Em doesn’t know is that Max also harbors
feelings from the past.
Although she’s
married and I have no rights to her, my memory mocks me like a jealous teenage
boy. I knew her first and had I not
gotten involved with her sister, things could’ve been different. She could’ve been mine.
Because of Max’s experience and his past association with
the Creed club, Em seeks out his help in getting Casey out of there. Max is able to get inside the gated club and
what he finds sickens him. It is not
going to be so simple to get Casey out of there.
A hundred reasons
why I should walk away now before getting myself further into Creed. A thousand reasons I should call someone else
for help and let them do it.
Max will continue to gain inside knowledge and befriend
the club members simply for the sake of helping Em. Max is a good and honorable man and he would
never act out his impulses to harm Em’s marriage, but when the marriage falls
apart there’s nothing to hold him back.
“Em, if I let go
of my back against this door, I’m comin’ at you,” I tell her and watch her eyes
widen. “When I say I’m comin’ at you, I
mean once I do, I won’t stop until you’re under me, begging me to stop so you
can catch your breath.”
(Fanning myself after that line…) The majority of the
story is told first person from Max.
Casey’s views are told third person.
At this point in the story, there is nothing that I felt was extremely
dark in the storyline. There may be a
few scenes after an act has occurred where Hangar was involved, but the author
did not include the first hand details.
I have read every one of Ms. Bextor’s writings, and I have never been
disappointed. She writes with detail,
depth, and fluidity. I never have to
assume what a character is thinking or doing as she spells it all out for
us. I do not like any breaks in a
storyline where I cannot move with the character into the next scene, and Ms.
Bextor is always able to carry me with the story. This book does not include the full story,
and a second installment will be coming shortly.

Pursing her lips, her face gets serious again. “I don’t think you should get involved.
“You involved me when you asked for help. It’s too late anyway. I’m already in.”
“Shit,” she mumbles.
Leaning forward in my seat, I rest my elbows on my knees and focus on her face to keep her attention. “I have an intro to Creed tonight. If this goes well, I could have a job. If it doesn’t go well, we will rethink the plan.”
Now she looks completely defeated and we’ve only just started.
“I don’t have a plan, Max,” she states, standing and putting her hand to her forehead. “What I have is a niece who needs my help, law enforcement in this shit of a town that refuses to acknowledge what’s happening in it, and the only person I think I can count on is meeting with the man who’s to blame for all of it.”
“I don’t think Hoss is the biggest problem,” I inform. “If rumor is true, there’s someone else leading this, and that someone is big. Hoss is no one in comparison to who we’re really talking about.”
