Review: #Jerk by Kat T Masen

He was that boy in the playground.
The one that pulled your pigtails.
The one that lifted your dress in front of the entire school.
Now he's that guy in the office.
The one that steals your lunch from the fridge.
The one that gets away with everything.
I'm sure you know him. Everyone knows that guy.
He's a #JERK.

Presley Malone knew her relationship with her fiancé, Jason, had run its course.
The second that ring came off her finger, she didn't expect to be the pawn in an immature game played by the office jerk.

His name is Haden Cooper, and he is six years younger than her. Immature and irresponsible, getting drunk and stoned every weekend like he never left college. He rode a motorcycle, carrying a different girl each week. He was everything a jerk should be—insensitive, unreliable, and most importantly, a heartbreaker.

Haden enjoyed playing games, and when it came to Presley Malone, it was all too easy. Miss Know-it-all with her over-the-top OCD was soon going to get a taste of what it was like to live on the edge.

But what starts off as an innocent prank soon becomes an unhealthy obsession.

He is wrong for her and she is wrong for him. It's a battle of the sexes ready to go to war. But in this battle there are no winners, and it takes only one fateful night and six tequilas for their lives to take an unexpected turn that changes them both forever.

4.5 Stars!!

Review by Lisa Kane

When I read the blurb for this book I thought this one sounds like fun. I could picture two people attracted to each other but fighting it. The guy would act immature and bully her and make her miserable like boys did when they were younger and liked a girl. Wrong! The story started out that way, but things veered off very quickly. Presley Malone is in a comfortable relationship with her fiance, Jason. After 5 years, maybe things are too comfortable. There are no fireworks, no sparks, just acceptance and understanding. Deciding that they should be friends instead of husband and wife, they break up. Eventually they will have to sell their place, but Presley is going to stay there in the meantime.

News of her broken engagement spreads like wildfire. The manwhore of the office, Haden Cooper, has always been a bit of a thorn in Presley's side. Although to be honest, she rarely  noticed him, she was too busy planning her wedding. But lately, he seems to make it his life's mission to make her miserable. She can't stand him, even if he is kind of cute. But she doesn't know why the women in the office flock to this ass like bees to honey. He screws all of them, never calls them back and moves on.

One night things pretty well explode between them and escalate with some dirty, filthy sex in an alley way of a bar. But Haden makes sure that he hurts Presley's ego and he leaves her with no happy ending to their encounter. Next thing she knows, he has taken an assignment over in London for the next several months. Presley is relieved, she is seeing someone else and she's over her mixed feelings for Haden. That is until she discovers that there is a reminder to their steamy encounter. But the hits keep coming. Haden comes back to town, only he isn't alone! Obviously,  one of them had no problem moving on.

This is where my heart broke. Over and over again. Damn you, Haden. How I wish I had a voodoo doll that I could shove some pins in. (in some vital areas!) How do you cope when your life is changing and the person you thought might be there for all these changes is with someone else?

Haden made my head spin. I'm not sure what the hell he was doing or thinking. It seemed he would reveal pieces of himself to Presley and then he would walk away again. And Eloise, Haden's fiancee. Talk about a passive/ aggressive bitch! I think Presley was confused and hurt and maybe even a little humiliated. She certainly is not without blame, she pushed Haden away, but who meets and gets engaged to a stranger in a few months?

Agghh! This book killed me. Every time Haden's upcoming marriage was mentioned, my stomach did a belly flop. I kept thinking, "He's not going to go through with this is he?" My advice-make sure the vodka and chocolates are handy. I had to put this one down at a couple of particularly hurtful parts. But I will say, Presley is one feisty girl. She is not without choices and she makes sure that Haden knows just what he is giving up. I mentally gave a fist pump throughout the second half of this book.

Read this one-scream and pull your hair out. It's not the RomCom that you might think it is-it has so many twists and turns and my heart was shattered more than once. It is an angst lover's delight!
