Beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with an unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse.
Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.
Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon—and simultaneously his novel—be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?
5 Star Review by Jennifer Hagen
Fallon and Ben discover each other on November 9th,
it being the 2nd anniversary of the worst day of Fallon’s life. They are both only 18 years old but they seem
to have wisdom beyond their years. They
have an instant connection, and although I am not a fan of instalove, I had to
agree that there was no way these two could not end up together. I also would slip and forget that they were
only 18 years old, which is another pet peeve of mine. How can people know they are in love at such
a young age? Right away that’s two
strikes for the book, but it didn’t bother me.
What? Huh? How could it not bother me? Because the author did a fantastic job
reminding the reader of Fallon and Ben’s age.
Just when I would find myself entering the “no way zone,” Ms. Hoover
pulled me back into reality by actually putting the words out there. I swear Ms. Hoover wrote this just for people
like me that are negative Nellies.
Ben is just what Fallon needs to boost her
confidence. She feels alive with him…I
know that’s cliché to say, but for two years she has been hiding from the
outside. Upon meeting Ben he instantly
puts her at ease and this allows her to be the person she once was…the person
she hasn’t been for 2 years. Fallon has
plans to leave for New York and both Ben and Fallon agree that it’s best that
they don’t exchange phone numbers and avoid any form of contact. But there’s something between them that
cannot be denied.
“What if we meet
up again next year on the same day? And
the year after that? We’ll do it for
five years. Same date, same time, same
place. We’ll pick up where we left off
tonight, but only for the day.”
In between these meet up times, Fallon is to be
auditioning for Broadway parts and Ben is to be writing a book. They follow through on their promised
meetings and while some meetings are filled with love…
“I don’t want to
be your first, Fallon. I want to be your
last.”
some meetings are filled with pain…
I’m not prepared
for this. I have no idea how to deal
with this. It feels like my heart is
literally breaking. Cracking right down
the middle, bleeding out into my chest, filling my lungs with blood, making it
impossible to breathe.
some filled with hard goodbyes…
Before the cab
pulls away, I turn in time to see him fall to his knees on the pavement in
defeat.
and lastly filled with heartbreak..
Every November 9th
I’ll wait for you, hoping one day you’ll be able to find enough forgiveness to
love me again.
This is a book that is meant to be savored --let the
words flow around you and even though there are some parts that will leave you
feeling cold, Ms. Hoover still somehow finds a way to keep you warm by her words
blanketing you. Ms. Hoover would never
leave you without a happy ending, but that doesn’t mean she won’t shred your
heart in the process. This story is
beautiful and heartwarming even with the heartbreak and the hold-your-breath moments.
