The Bastards MC Series Boxed contains the first two books in the series - Always Been Mine and Honey Whiskey
Josephine Walker:
My carefully constructed, picture perfect life is crumbling around me. For the first time in fifteen years, I don't know who I want to be.
I need to find me.
I'm done playing it safe, done caring what others think. I want wild and crazy. And, as much as I try to ignore it, I want Matt to see me as more than just his best friend.
Matty Murphy:
The Bastards live in a world most don't understand. We follow our own rules, only accountable to each other, the innocents we protect, and the people we couldn't save. Each of us wears a mask, hiding behind a polite smile and a respectable job, covering the monsters inside. I made peace with who I was a long time ago. I have no regrets.
Except one.
Jo Walker. I'm not letting her go without a fight.
Always Been Mine
4.5 star review by Jen Skewes
Always Been Mine is Carina Adams' debut novel and she did a fantastic job with it. It was one of those books that I could not put down and thought about for days after. I even found myself re-reading some of my favorite parts, which included Matty of course. I absolutely loved that man but I'll get to him in a second.
Josephine and Matty have been best friends for the past ten years or so. He is the best friend that any woman can ask or hope for. When Joe finds her marriage completely falling apart Matty is there to help pick up the pieces. Joe's relationship with her husband has never really been perfect. All though in the very beginning most people would have thought it was. They never fought and seemed so in love. But at some point their marriage began to crumble. And right now Josephine is living in a hotel room away from her husband wondering where to go from here. She is trying to deal with her husband's infidelity and the feelings that she still has for him and how to move on from it all. Then there is Matty, her best friend, her confidant, the man who is always there for her. And as always Matty is right there to help her with her current crisis.
Matty and Joe have such an amazing bond and friendship but to some people they may be a little too close for comfort. To an outsider looking in you would think that they were the ones that were in love and married. Matty has a girlfriend who Joes is not a fan of and vice versa. But when things start to become a little complicated with his relationship, Matty and Joe find themselves closer to crossing that line of friendship. Joe wants it, but Matty is afraid of what they will lose if they cross it. Is there friendship worth risking it all for love?
I absolutely loved Matty. He is hot and sexy, caring, sweet and very protective of Joe. I think you can sense early on how much he loves her but was never able to have her. So her friendship was the next best thing and something that he treasured. In my opinion his actions alone, especially in one specific situation, spoke volumes about how much he loved her. He has a past and secrets that he is keeping but it doesn't make you love him any less. I loved Joe and at times I felt so bad for her. For the treatment she received from her husband as well as from one other character who shall remain nameless, only because I don't want to spoil anything for you. I adored her and Matty together and wanted nothing more than for these two to end up together an happy.
Matty and Joes finally have a chance to be together but not everything in life is that simple. There are many obstacles in their way. They both have exes that are not happy with their relationship, then there are secrets and insecurities that also come into play. Always Been Mine has it all; drama, angst, heartbreaking moments, an ex bitch that I wanted to slap on more than one occasion, and that moment when I had knots in my stomach and I found myself shaking my head, yelling at my Ipad, "No, No, please don't go there." This was a fantastic read and I cannot wait for the next one. The ending was perfect and I felt true to the story. This is not a cliffhanger but there are some questions left unanswered and the door has been left open for more of Matty and Joe, which I am very excited about.
4.5 Star Review by Jen Skewes
I absolutely loved Always Been Mine and could not wait for this second installment. I completely fell in love with Matty in ABM and just needed more of him. He was just amazing in every way. The best friend a girl could ask for but so much more. He had secrets that came out in ABM but we still had a lot of unanswered questions that I could not wait to find out the answers to.
In ABM we see Matty and Joes, two people who have been best friends for over 10 years. And deep down Matty has always been in love with Joe but it wasn’t until after her separation from her husband that Matty started to act on those feelings. ABM is an amazing story of friends to lovers. But with their story came a lot of drama and angst. Honey Whiskey takes place about 2 months after ABM ended and Joe is not really sure where her relationship with Matty stands. She knows he loves him and wants to be with him but she has so many questions that she needs answers too. For one Matty has a whole other life as the VP of the Bastards MC that she knew nothing about. She needs to know how that life will affect their relationship but she also needs to know about his past and how he came to be a member of the MC. The love that they have for each other is s strong and unlike any love that either one of them have felt, but with so many issues still between them can they make it work?
I won’t go into more detail about their story but will say that Honey Whiskey was nothing of what I expected but everything that I wanted. If that makes any sense. I wasn’t sure where this book would go but I loved every minute of it. Matty oh how I love this man. Joes is his life and he would do anything to keep her safe. It has always been about her. He was married once to Becs who knew about his past but wanted to live a life separate from it. He was engaged to Taylor who knew all about his money, and the MC and may have wanted him for those reasons. He has been with many women who wanted him for various reasons. But the one person who loved him and knew him better than anyone was Joe. She may not have known about his past or his secret life but she knew the real Matty. She knew the Matty that no one else got to see. They had a friendship and love that most people would dream of having. They were both there for each other through thick and thin, no matter what. Watching these two fall in love want to do everything in their power to make it work was just amazing.
I cannot even begin to explain how much I loved this book. There was drama and angst and some very dark moments as well. Ms. Adams took this book to the next level and completely blew me away. The love that Joe and Matty have for each other is so real and so beautiful that you can feel it. I fell in love with Matty even more, because he is just that amazing. We also got to know a whole new circle of characters through the MC club. I loved Rocker and the other members of the Bastards, especially Neo. I cannot wait for their story. I also loved Jess and Cris and the relationship that they had with Joe. They were true friends who would do anything for each other.
Honey Whiskey will answer any questions that you had in ABM. Yes there are moments where you will tie your stomach up in knots and moments where the tears will start to form. There are also those sweet moments that will just make you happy. There is enough drama and angst to keep you on the edge of your seat. But deep down it is a beautiful love story between two people whose love is so deep and so real that they will do anything to make it work. Together, they will melt your heart and leave you smiling. I cannot wait for the next one in this series. Amazing job Ms. Adams!
“I’ve had dreams like this.” He pushed himself off the door and swaggered toward me. “Where you come here, take off all your clothes, and tease me. I always wake up before I get to touch you.”
He ran fingers along my collarbone lightly, as if to make sure I was real. The fingers trailed down my chest, between my breasts, over my stomach, and onto my hip. He stood so close that I could feel his breath on my face while he looked over every inch of me, and I fought the instinct to cover myself and hide. There was a lot more meat on my body than there had been last summer. I’d let the irritation of the divorce and the stress of losing Matty get to me, and I’d packed on an extra fifteen-ish pounds. I was curvier than I’d been in a long time, and a lot more woman than I was sure he was used to.
His eyes met mine, watching me carefully for a few minutes. “You are so fuckin’ beautiful, and you don’t even know it, do you?” His voice was low, practically a whisper. He reached out his other hand and, following the same trail slowly, ended up on my other hip. “Joes?”
He bit his bottom lip as his eyes met mine again, and I knew he was asking if I was sure I wanted this. I nodded.
He picked me up, and my back hit the wall before I even realized we’d moved. His hands skimmed down my hips, onto my ass, then to the undersides of my thighs, pulling me as close to him as I could get while he was still fully clothed. I wrapped my legs around his waist, desperate for contact. His mouth moved up my neck, his tongue drawing a line and his lips blowing on it, his beard tickling me—the combination sent shivers down my spine and made my muscles clench.
I tangled my fingers in his hair, trying to pull his head back, needing to kiss his lips. He was stronger though, and he continued his tantalizing journey—lapping, blowing, and sometimes nibbling—up to my ear and back down the front of my neck. Helpless to do anything else, I rocked my center against his jeans, the denim providing just enough friction to make me moan.
He ran the tip of his nose back up my neck, onto my face, and his mouth closed over mine, claiming me. All too soon, he pulled away, releasing me and backing up. My feet weren’t ready to hold me, and I leaned against the wall, confused.
He grinned as he looked me over once more. “Fucking amazing.”
Carina Adams has been writing and creating characters for as long as she can remember, allowing her to fall in love with the next man of her dreams with every new story.
Thankfully, fate stepped in and granted her the ultimate wish - a life full of men. Carina lives in a picturesque New England town with her husband, the man who ruined the thought of all others, and two amazing sons who always keep her on her toes.
Carina received her MBA in May, but would much rather play with her imaginary friends (the voices in her head) than work her 8 to 5. When she isn’t trying to juggle being a working mom with karate and football practices, surprising her children with her sci-fi movie knowledge, or writing, you can find her with her nose pressed against her kindle, laughing with friends, or living life vicariously as her Derby Girl persona, Writers Block.
