In a sensual, emotionally charged novel of love and loss, a tender affair gives two daring storm chasers the strength to overcome shattered dreams and the courage to build a future together.

Drew McGovern is living for two. Her fiancĂ©, Colby, used to savor the feeling of a powerful gale, the rain pelting his face as the sky grew dark—until a shocking tragedy struck him down. Drew’s still grieving his death a year later when she bumps into some of his old storm chasing buddies. For reasons she can’t explain, she volunteers for the next tornado. But when she reconnects with Colby’s best friend, Aiden O’Neal, Drew gets a breath of fresh air that stirs the ashes of her broken heart.

Aiden doesn’t trust himself around Drew. He’s wanted this girl for a long time—long enough to remember the stab of jealousy he felt the first time he saw her in Colby’s arms, long enough to remember the tears that fell as they buried the man they each still miss. Now he’s trying his best to behave himself. But when the wind ruffles Drew’s hair and puts a sparkle in her eye, Aiden can’t resist the urge to hold her close. And when it comes to true love, he’s holding out hope that lightning strikes twice.

Review by Jen Skewes

Drew was getting ready to marry the love of her life.  Until one tragic accident leaves her completely alone, devastated and heart broken.  She is not sure how she is supposed to move on from this.  How she is supposed to live life without Colby by her side.

It’s about a year later and Drew is slowly putting the pieces of her life back together.  But she feels like something is still missing.  When she runs into one of Colby’s friends from his storm-chasing group she decides to join them on their next adventure.  It’s a way of maybe feeling closer to Colby, to understand what he felt out there chasing storms with his best friend Aidan and the rest of the group.  But there was one thing that Drew did not count on while she was away with them. And that was falling for her deceased fiancee’s best friend.

Aidan has been in love with Drew from the moment he first saw her, before she even started dating Colby.  He still has these same feelings for her but he has his own past that has tortured him.  For Aidan, no matter how much he feels for Drew, she is off limits.  Not only does he not feel like he is good enough for her but because she is his best friend’s girl.  But as they begin to spend more time together on this journey, his feelings for her just keep getting stronger and the one thing that he has always dreamed of is finally happening.  Drew is starting to see Aidan as more than just her fiancee’s best friend.  She is starting to fall for him and wants to become more than just friends.  But no matter how hard she tries and tells Aidan that she wants more, he still continues to push her away.  What will it take for Aidan to finally see that he is worthy of her love and it is ok to take their friendship to the next level?

I really enjoyed this book so much.  I loved Aidan and wanted nothing more than to see the two of them together and happy.  This is another one of Brenda Rothert’s books where she manages to pull out the emotions.  For one, this book starts off with a very powerful and emotional scene.  I felt for Drew and what she was going through which is why I wanted to see her happy again.  But even throughout the book when you learn of Aidan’s past there is this moment of heartache and you feel so much for him and the man that he is.  You want to see them both be able to get past the hurt and move on.

There is also a moment in this book that had my stomach in knots.  It was a moment where Drew began to question everything that she thought she knew.  It was a moment where I prayed that it was all just a big misunderstanding, because in that moment my heart hurt just as much as hers did.

While I did love this book and the emotions that I went through there was a little something missing.  And maybe it was a bit more of Aidan’s past love for Drew that I needed.  I wanted to understand where it all came from, because while he did explain seeing her for the first time I was unsure as to how it turned into the feelings that he had for her.  There was also a moment that I am still not sure I agree with.  I honestly have mixed feelings about it because in a way it makes me feel like Aidan should have had to fight for Drew more because of it.  Yes I am being vague for a very good reason and when you read the book you will most likely understand what I am referring to.  But regardless I loved it.  It was an emotional and quick read and one that I read in one sitting.  I didn’t want to let go of these characters.  And I loved the supporting characters and what they brought to this story.  I am really hoping that they get their own book as well.
