To the Fall by Prescott Lane
Publication Date: March 8th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance
You know the story.
Boy meets girl, they fall in love, two kids, white picket fence.
This isn’t that story.
This is more like . . .
Man meets woman. Man sleeps with woman.
Man meets another woman, sleeps with her.
And so on. You get the idea.
I own a small boutique hotel in New Orleans, the Kingston. I’ve seen men do some stupid stuff in the name of the woman they love, or at least the woman they love for the night.
That’s not me. I’m always in control. You’d be surprised how much you can get away with on just good manners and a smile. It’s the only way to keep my secrets safely locked away.
And my smile hides a lot. Until her.
She turns me down flat. Playing hard to get is my favorite game. It’s the thrill of the chase.
Only problem is, I think it’s me that’s getting caught.

Review by Jen Skewes

Wow!!  I do not even know where to begin with this review.  This book was amazing and brilliant and I loved it.  Prescott Lane pulled out every emotion. From the moment I started this book I could not put it down.  I wasn’t even sure that I even liked the hero in the beginning but that did not stop me from wanting to know more.

Pierce is a man whore!  There is no two ways about it.  HE IS A MANWHORE!!  But I give him credit because he was an honest one. If you want him he will let you know right up front what his intentions are. If you are looking for romance, dates and a future with him, then just walk away because there is no chance at all that you will get that from Peirce Kingston.  If you are looking for someone hot and sexy to occupy your nights with no strings attached, then he is your man.  He is a very successful man who owns his own hotel.  He is completely in control in all aspects of his life.  When he meets Sutton, the new owner of the hotel down the street she brings out something in him that is so completely unexpected.  She is a game changer for him and while she makes it very clear that she has no intention of being with him, he will not give up.

Sutton is focused on rebuilding her family’s hotel.  Love is the last thing on her mind.  But when it does comes to love and relationships she wants it all.  She is not a one-night stand kind of girl.  When she finds that special someone she wants them to be all-in with her.  She wants a family and kids, something that she knows Pierce cannot give her.  But he sets out to prove that with her it is different.  He knows what she wants and even though he knows that he may not be able to give that to her he does not give up.  She is afraid of her heart getting crushed by him, but hurting her is the last thing he wants to do.  Can he really give up his man-whorish ways and be all in?

When I first met Pierce I have to be honest I was not even sure that I liked him.  I always love a story that is about a reformed man-whore/bad boy.  But when it came to Pierce there really seemed to be no hope in sight.  While I may not have liked his ways, there was something about him that captured me. There was a bit of humor to him, in the way he told his story,  that I loved but I also knew that if we dug deeper and peeled back his layers we would find the reason for who he is today.  And boy did we.  Despite who he was in the beginning of the story, at the end I fell for him hard.  He truly is a man who cares and has this need to take care of the women in his life. He may not have messed up a time or two but that is what made me love him more.  He was not perfect, he has his flaws, he made his mistakes and he truly learned from them.

Sutton is this amazing heroine who I loved from the very start. She knows what she wants and she is not one to back down or give in.  Did Pierce at some point wear her down?  Yes!  But what I loved about her was how perfect of a match she was for him.  She knew when to push and when to let it go.  She knew when to fight, and when to hold on.  She fell for Pierce just as hard as I did and their story is one that is filled with many ups and downs.  But if there was anyone that could break this man’s walls down, to get him to open up and reveal his deepest and darkest secret, to love him in the way that he deserved to be loved, to fight for him and simply be there for him, it was Sutton.

Prescott Lane delivered an emotional story that was so unexpected.  To the Fall is the story of a man who has been put on a sex diet by his therapist, only to find the one woman that he can’t have but wants in a way that he has never wanted anyone.  But there is so much more to this story and that is the unexpected part.  I loved watching Pierce grow.  I loved how his and Sutton’s relationship progressed and how they came to fall for each other.  But at some point in the story, while I thought everything was going great – BAM!!!  Prescott Lane completely rips my heart out in a way that I never saw coming.  And if that wasn’t enough she managed to shock me even more.  She took me on one heck of a roller coaster ride, but one that I would take again.

The last line to Pierce’s story was a powerful one that was followed by a few words from the author.  It was at that moment that I let the tears escape that I was holding in from moments before.  It was those words that in my opinion meant everything.  It was those words that gave this beautifully broken man the closure that he needed and made you truly understand who he was.  This book was amazing, unique and beautifully written.  Prescott Lane blew me away with this one.

Excerpt:
Dr. Lorraine laughs and pulls out her prescription pad. Scribbling something, she turns it to me. The title reads: The sex diet.
I bust out laughing. “You’re writing me a sex prescription.”
“Sort of,” she says. “You ever gone on a diet before?”
“No.”
“The thing with diets is, you usually start off strict.”
"
How did I know that?”
“No touching by either party, not even kissing.”
"Wait, not even a hand job?” I ask.
“You’ve got your own hands. Use them.”
She writes jerking off on her script pad, then puts a checkmark beside it. This is the craziest shit.
“Once a day as needed,” she says, writing that down.
“I’ll never make it.”
“How many times do you want?” she asks.
“At least twice, morning and before bed.”
She shakes her head. “Okay, twice a day,” she says and points her pencil at me. “That’s it.”
“I really don’t think I need . . .”
“You won’t be released from therapy until I’m satisfied you’ve completed this,” she says.
She has me by the balls, and she knows it. I can’t believe I’m being forced to agree to this, but what choice do I have? “I haven’t had sex in a couple days. Can I get credit for that?”
“No,” she laughs out. “Start fresh today.”
“Porn?”
“What about it?”
“Can I use it?” I ask.
“You don’t have enough memories to sustain you?” she asks.
“Good point.”
She gets to her feet and sticks out her hand. “Good luck.”
Shaking her hand and smiling, I’m sure I’ve got this.
I bite the inside of my mouth, realizing the old lady has tricked me. It’s Thursday. I’m not seeing her again until Tuesday.
That’s five days! Shit, what have I done?
