Stefan Sabbioni showed up uninvited in my bedroom on my
sixteenth birthday. He stood in the shadows smelling of whiskey and death and
wrapped a broken, blood-crusted necklace around my neck. I thought he’d
strangle me with it.

That night, he left a message for my father. He said he’d be
back to take something precious.

I never delivered that message, though. I wonder if things
would be different if I had because now, two years later, he’s back. And he’s
not hiding in any shadows.

He’s come to make good on his promise.
He’s back to take that something precious.
Me.

Stefan

Marchese is the manipulator of my family’s tragedy. I won’t
just bring him to his knees. I’ll bury him for what he did.

Taking his daughter is only the beginning. I’ll do it
knowing I’m starting a war. I’ll do it knowing my enemies will become his
allies. They’ll stop at nothing to destroy me and he’ll stop at nothing to get
her back.

I’ve never shied away from war, though. I’m not one to play
nice and I don’t share my toys. I’ll demolish you if you touch what’s mine.

And she is most definitely mine.

Review by Jen Skewes

A Mafia romance written by Natasha Knight?  Yes please!! I always look forward to her books. They are just the right amount of grit and darkness, mixed with sexy.  A hero that I have no business falling in love with but always do.  When it comes to a mafia romance Ms. Knight always hits the mark.  And Collateral is no different.

Gabriella is just a pawn in her father’s world.  Yes, she is the daughter of a big mob boss, but to her that means nothing.  Her father doesn’t care what happens to her, most of her life has been spent as a prisoner in her own home.  Two years ago, on her Sixteenth birthday Stefan Sabbioni sent a message to her father via her.  He promised that he would seek revenge and take something very precious to her father.  What she didn’t know was that “something precious” was her.

Stefan is out for revenge for what happened to his brother two years ago.  He is the head of this family now and now that Gabriella is 18 he plans on making her his.  An arranged marriage between her and Stefan is to take place and she is to accept her place. She has not choice bit to go with him, but Gabriella is not one to go down without a fight.  She doesn’t just submit to Stefan because she is told to.  She is strong and stubborn and will fight him tooth and nail.  But I think in some weird way as much as she frustrates him and pisses him off, it is also the reason he is drawn to her.  He’s considered a monster in her eyes, but with her being his comes with as level of protection that maybe she wouldn’t have at home.  Which is the better evil?  Marrying Stefan and being his or going back home to live with her father?

I loved this book which is the first in a duet.  Stefan is not a good man, he is angry and out for revenge, but at times I saw another side of him when with Gabriella.  They can go heads to head, neither one of them backing down but that is what makes the chemistry between them so intense.  He has a very protective side and regardless of how she became his, he protects what belongs to him and I think after learning more about her, he has a bit of a soft spot for her.  I think there is so much more her than he realizes and when he finds out it makes him see her in a different way.

Gabriella is strong and feisty, and I love that about her.  She’s at war with her feelings when it comes to Stefan.  One minute hating him and the next having feelings that she is not sure she should have.  In her eyes he is a monster but at times, he makes her question how true that is.

Collateral is another example of why I love Ms. Knight’s writing.   It’s dark, gritty, sexy and a bit charming all in one.  I say charming because there are moments between the  two of them where they both seem to drop their guard, even if for a short time.  From the moment I started reading I could not put this book down.  She makes you question your own morals when you start to fall for the hero.  I devoured this book.   I knew this was a cliffhanger, but Ms. Knight left us hanging in a way that left me shocked.  I need book two!  I will be patiently waiting!!
