Review: Doctor Dearest by RS Grey
Natalie
Dr. Easton is part man, part myth.
He’s a formidable surgeon. Highly respected in his field.
He also happens to be an ex-collegiate quarterback with a classically handsome face.
Are you catching on yet?
He’s horrible.
Beautiful.
A walking Ralph Lauren ad.
He’s also so off limits he should come with a warning label: This way lies heartache.
Not only is he an attending at the hospital where I’m training, he’s also my brother’s best friend. If you’ve lost count, that’s two reasons why I plan on putting this ridiculous crush behind me. Besides, it’s definitely not mutual.
Dr. Easton has never once paid me special attention. No tempting smirks. Not even one subtle innuendo. To him, I’m just another resident—all but invisible.
Connor
For the last five years, I’ve mentored Natalie in the OR, stayed in line, and kept my hands to myself, but it’s been agonizing.
Natalie is trouble in scrubs. A walking temptation I’ve been forced to ignore.
For so long, I’ve wanted her in silence. By the time fate finally throws me a bone, my patience has run out.
Natalie’s brother is leaving town, and he wants me to watch over her while he’s gone.
He has no idea how I feel about her.
Neither does she.
But she will.
Haven’t you heard good things come to those who wait, Natalie?
Well…I’ve done my waiting.
4.5 Stars
Review by Lisa Kane
Dr Natalie Martin is a workaholic. She sleeps, eats and breathes for work. She's 28 and is ready to start her fellowship. She is a premier burn surgeon, but except for Lindsey, her bestie OB/GYN doctor friend, she has few other friends. She always wanted to be a burn surgeon and work with children.
To do that, I had to be extremely dedicated, and I had to make sacrifices. It's why I'm twenty-eight and single, why my phone gets more action on the nights I take call than on a Saturday when I'm actually free to go out and have fun.
And men....not even worth a mention. But her brother Noah, a renowned plastic surgeon, pushes her to have a life outside of the hospital.
Noah's best friend is Dr. Connor Easton. Natalie trained under Connor during her residency-secretly Natalie wouldn't have minded being under Connor outside of rounds. But she knows he has little to no interest in her. Right?
He never made small talk, never really acknowledged that I was Noah's sister.
I love a book with a dual POV. Connor has lusted after Natalie for years, but out of respect for her being under his charge and the fact that Noah will kill him-he's kept his distance. But Natalie isn't a student of his any longer and Noah is about to leave his post for a few months and go on sabbatical. He's going to be diving his time between setting up cleft palate clinics and training surgeons at other programs on the techniques he's presented. So Connor is going to go for it! Not quite sure how Natalie will react...
He's the kind of guy who looks like he'll mind his manners right up until he slides his hand up your skirt on his parents' yacht. He's watching me with unwavering concentration, his gaze unapologetically intense.
Connor is having some work done in his townhouse and with Noah going out of town, it's the perfect time for Connor to stay at Noah's. Natalie lives in the guest house and Noah wouldn't mind Connor keeping an eye on her. Connor wouldn't mine if he kept both eyes on her!
I adore this author's writing. She has a way of creating characters who are strong and intelligent and yet have a softness to them. Natalie has a mother who has branded her with a mantra of never depending on a man. Her mother gave up her own career to follow her husband around while he photographs the world. Someone should tell mama she makes a conscious choice every day to keep living her husband's dream, instead of following her own. Natalie is scared of trusting anyone, so she rarely allows herself to lean on anyone, especially a man. Connor has his work cut out for him.
"Give me a real chance. Give me the chance to make this right, or hell, give me the chance to screw it up."
Doctor Dearest has some mild angst, but nothing that will make your stomach flip flop. Connor is a bit of a dream boat-yep, he can operate on me! I am hoping this is part of a series-I can totally see something brewing between Noah and Lindsey!
"How am I supposed to resist you?"
