Blog Tour: Wild Wind by Kristen Ashley

Wild Wind, an all-new sexy and emotional CHAOS series standalone novella from New York Times bestselling author Kristen Ashley and 1,001 Dark Nights is available now!

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Ashley brings a new story in her Chaos series…

When he was sixteen years old, Jagger Black laid eyes on the girl who was his. At a cemetery. During her mother’s funeral.

For years, their lives cross, they feel the pull of their connection, but then they go their separate ways.

But when Jagger sees that girl chasing someone down the street, he doesn’t think twice before he wades right in. And when he gets a full-on dose of the woman she’s become, he knows he finally has to decide if he’s all in or if it’s time to cut her loose.

She’s ready to be cut loose.

But Jagger is all in.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Review by Lisa Kane

We are back in the world of Chaos, this time to explore Jagger's world and to give him peace. He has few memories of his father but the man haunts him. He is tortured and full of anguish for someone he feels he should know, should have memories of, but he has nothing.

When he was sixteen at at his father's funeral, he sees a girl, stricken with grief. It is her mother's funeral. Their eyes meet and there is a shared moment, that only they witness. Jagger leaves her a note, trying somehow to comfort her, to let her know he feels her struggle. She responds and they remain "J" and "A" for years. They see each other at the odd moment, but they are always with others. the one time they are both adults they promise to meet up. But things happen and Jagger isn't able to keep that moment. Has he lost his chance?

Four years go by until he sees her again. She was away at school and has no time for his frustrated anger. He stood her up and she has no reason to feel remorse that she didn't reach out to him while she was at college. Jagger responds with anger and it seems they will always be ships passing in the night.

Until Jagger sees her running after a teen. He follows and that chance meeting leads to real conversation which leads to real connection. We learn this girl's name (I will call her "A") and she has a kick ass store, selling vintage items and unique collectibles. She has a posse of loyal, quirky friends who worship her. She's a rock in the community, especially the depressed, economically challenged one where her shop is located, and she is support for the teens. Giving them chances and opportunities they might never receive. Most notably, to Mal, the boy who she was chasing.

Slowly, A's circle becomes Jagger's. There are challenges and hears that keep Jagger holding back that last piece of himself, reluctant to believe he could ever make a commitment to a woman. Old wounds that have never healed over his father's lack of presence in his life.

This is Chaos so expect to see some familiar friends popping up here and there in the story. Jagger is a brother and Chaos is his family. So Chaos will also be A's family. Speaking of family, there is big time drama with A's family. Both Jagger and A will have to make peace with their family issues before they can truly be all in.

Wild Wind is a great addition to the series, and I'm hoping we have a lot more stories over the years to keep these characters' storylines living on.

Excerpt

“You wanna know what I think?” Hound asked.
Jagger tipped his head back to look at his dad.
Then Hound told him what he thought.
“I think you’re in. And I think if you walk away from this girl, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. And I think I’m here to tell you that because you need another voice sayin’ something you already know.”
“That’s what I think too,” Jagger admitted.
Hound nodded, and again he did it only once.
“Then I’ll look forward to havin’ her over to dinner and celebrating with your mom that she can finally stop worrying about you because she’s feelin’ you shoulda been done sowin’ those oats about five years ago.”
Jagger grinned at him.
His mother had never been at one with the way Jag tackled life, considering he’d always been about wresting as much of it as he could for his own.
Dutch was the quiet, responsible one.
Jag was…
Not.
Hound reached out and caught Jag by the neck, gave him a squeeze, a shove, then let him go.
And Jagger felt better.
“So, what’s her name?” Hound asked.
“Archie.”
Hound looked him right in the eye.
Then he burst out laughing.
He settled back into the bar, his fingers cradling his brew, and he was shaking his head.
“Archie and Georgie. Fuck,” Hound said.
Jag hadn’t thought of that, both him and Dutch finding girls with boys’ names.
He grinned, leaned back into the bar himself, and replied, “She doesn’t have red hair and freckles, and I seriously doubt her best friend’s name is Jughead, but I think she might have a bit of tomboy in her.”
“Well, son,” Hound picked up his beer and tipped it toward Jag, “you’re about to find out.”
Jag grabbed his beer and tapped necks with Hound.
And he was grinning again.
Because Hound was right.
He was.
