R.S. Grey’s new standalone rom-com, To Have and To Hate, is out now! Check it out and order yours today!

About To Have and To Hate:

Marry a man I barely know to save my family from ruin. It might’ve been simple, if my betrothed were anybody else.   On our wedding day, my husband-to-be arrived at the courthouse like a black cloud rolling over Manhattan. Walt didn’t crack smiles or pepper in pleasantries as we exchanged hollow vows in front of the judge.   His disdain for me was so palpable I assumed we’d walk out of that ceremony and resume our regularly scheduled programming. But then fate was like, Hold my beer. I got this.   In desperate need of help and with nowhere else to turn, I had no choice but to ignore a crucial rule in our contract: I shall only contact Mr. Jennings II in case of emergency. But hey, what’s a little fine print between husband and wife?   Turns out, Walt’s a stickler for legalese—I think it might be his love language. Oh, and his attitude at the courthouse wasn’t a put-on. My so-called husband is a jerk. He takes what he wants without giving any consideration to other people—specifically ME, his blushing, contractually-obligated bride!   I knew life with Walt would be no honeymoon, but a marriage of any sort should still come with a few standard guarantees:   To have and to hold. For richer or poorer. In sickness and in health. But after experiencing Walt’s version of wedded bliss, I say let’s forget about all that lovey-dovey crap and just take me straight to death do us part.

Review by Lisa Kane

Elizabeth's family has money, but they have just as many problems. Talk about disfunction! Elizabeth has multiple siblings and has been virtually invisible to her mother. That is, until her mother needs her to save the family's butt. That's how she ends up getting married to Walt. (I have to admit, I'm not crazy about his name for the hero)

Walt has a bit of a problem himself and needs to marry. To him this is a contractual arrangement that will benefit his wife as well as Walt. But rather than the meek, complacent bride he is looking for, he gets Elizabeth who is spunky. She's trying to make it in the art world. She believes in her work, even though her mother at every turn will take attempt to tear away at her self confidence.

Slowly, Walt and Elizabeth affect each other's world. It's pretty impossible to ignore the whirlwind force that is Elizabeth and Walt really doesn't stand a chance.  He is reserved and cold, but once Elizabeth chips away at that stone exterior, she comes to realize that maybe her marriage isn't a horrible thing. Can they have a real marriage?

Just when Elizabeth is all in the cracks in the foundation appear. Is her career taking off but her marriage may be over?

I liked To Have and To Hate. We get a little insight into Walt's POV at the end with the epilogue. (and it's a slammin' one too!) He was a bit hard to read in this story,  I knew he couldn't be as cold as he came across, I would have liked a little more of his POV. But Elizabeth isn't difficult to read at all-she has always been looking for love and acceptance. Following her artist journey from obscure to famous complimented the book. Finding her place in the world, without needing her family's acknowledgement is rewarding. The more confidence she gains, the more depth her character attains.

This is a soft, easy read. RS Grey never fails to deliver and To Have and To Hate is one more thing to love from her!
