Release Blitz for Sawyer Bennett's The Forbidden (Bluegrass Empires #2)

New Release from Sawyer Bennett The Forbidden (Bluegrass Empires, Book #2)

Synopsis:

The prince of his family’s Kentucky bourbon empire, Gabriel Mardraggon is a ruthless and cunning businessman. Focused on the continued success of Mardraggon Enterprises, relationships and settling down aren’t even on his radar. After all, he’s the product of two people who always put money before love. Loyal to the family’s creed of winning at all costs, as well as their hatred of the Blackburns, Gabe will never accept peace between the dynasties. Katherine Blackburn is Gabe’s polar opposite—carefree, lighthearted and completely mischievous.  Kat works hard as a horse trainer but never hesitates to let her hair down and have a little fun. And lately that has included poking at Gabe and his buttoned-up ways, much to his irritation. Getting a rise out of the cold but gorgeous Mardraggon heir brings Kat unfettered joy, especially given their two families’ ugly history together. Blackburns and Mardraggons are bitter enemies. Any type of relationship would be strictly forbidden. But when Gabe’s business dealings hurt Kat in a way he never imagined, his walls crumble and he’s forced to lay his feelings for Kat bare. Now Gabe has to decide if he’s ready to alter the course of history or walk away from the only genuine thing he’s ever known. The Forbidden: A Mardraggon Novel is an enemies to lovers novel within the Bluegrass Empires series. All books in the series can be enjoyed as standalones.

Hatfields and McCoys, look out because the Madraggons and Blackburns are giving you a run for your money in the family feud department. From birth the Kat Blackburn and Gabe Madraggon have been raised to hate each other. The only Madraggon that Kat Blackburn loves is her niece, Sylvie. The only Blackburn Gabe loves is his niece, Sylvie.  Will a one hundred plus years feud live on, or end with these two.

Trinette Dungee's 4 Star Review!

Gabe Madraggon’s world has been turned upside down. In a matter of weeks, he’s lost his sister, had to except that not only is the father of his niece a member of his family’s sworn enemy, but his sister’s dying wish was for her daughter to live with her father. As if that weren’t enough, he turned his father in to the police for attempting to murder his niece. Now to add insult to injury Gabe has to work with Kat Blackburn, his niece’s aunt and a royal pain in his ass.

In an attempt to help take some responsibilities off her brother Ethan’s plate, Kat must now work side by side Gabe Madraggon. Kate knows this isn’t going to be easy because as it turns out, Ethan isn’t the only Blackburn to have a past with a Madraggon.

This is book two of the Bluegrass Empire Series and right now Gabe Madraggon is my favorite guy! While Gabe was initially introduced as possibly cold and detached like his parents, he is anything but. He loved his sister with his entire soul, and he loves his niece no differently. Sylvie is all he has left of his sister Alaine, and if Ethan Blackburn and his family plan to make Gabe jump through hoops to stay in his niece’s life, then so be it. If that means working alongside Kat Blackburn to prove to Ethan and the rest of the Blackburns that he only wants what’s best for Sylvie, so be it, because nothing matters to him more than Sylvie, but working so closely with Kat brings up old memories, old passions, and old attractions.

There’s no doubt what fuels the tense relationship between Kat and Gabe is a past relationship. The more time they spend together, the more we learn about this relationship. Enemies to lovers, forbidden lovers and secret lovers are the ongoing theme with them. I loved these two. There chemistry was evident from the beginning. I loved their verbal foreplay, their banter and that uncontrollable pull to each other. While I like Kat, this was most definitely Gabe’s story. He’s searching for forgiveness from Kat for their past. He’s searching for redemption from his misplaced loyalty to his family. He’s searching for trust from Ethan when it comes to his niece. I think mostly he was searching for who Gabe really is.

What I’m truly enjoying about this series is the vulnerability of the men. It’s the men who fall first, who crave a relationship, who allow their hearts to be taken. I think my favorite scene/paragraph in this book…

Kat resumes her trek up the stairs, but I call her name one more time. “Kat.” When she looks back at me, I ask, “Do you think we can have a friendship?”

Be still my beating heart.....sigh

4 Star Review by Trinette Dungee

Ethan Blackburn’s life has always revolved around the family business. With his father now retired it's his entire life; until life throws him a curve ball in the form of a thirteen-year-old daughter, Sylvie. Not only is he blindsided by the fact that he has a daughter he never knew about, but he also learns she is the result of one night spent with Alaine Mardraggon, the daughter of his family’s sworn enemy. The Blackburns and Mardraggons are the modern day Hatfields and McCoys and now Sylvie is caught in the middle of battle that has been going on for decades on top of dealing with the loss of her mother.

Sylvie is currently living with her mother’s parents who have not painted Ethan in the best light, but Alaine’s directives were for Sylvie to live with her father. Now, along with getting to know his daughter, he has to undo any damage Sylvie’s grandparents have done to his and his family’s character. Ethan finds an ally in Marcie DeLeon, the Principal of Sylvie’s new school, and the aunt of one of the riding students on his ranch.

Marcie DeLeon is navigating her own life after being recently divorced. Upon meeting Sylvie and Ethan she instantly recognizes the newly introduce father and daughter could use her help in getting along with each other. Marcie is determined to do what is best for Sylvie and tries her best to remain neutral when it comes to helping Sylvie navigate the relationships she has with her mother’s and father’s family. She also has to deal with the small crush she had on Ethan (like every other woman in the county).

The first introduction to the Blackburn Family was in Code Name: Omega, Kellan McCord’s and Abby Blackburn’s story, when Abby’s family comes to her rescue. From the moment we met the Blackburn siblings I hoped we’d get a story for them. Well, I got my first story, and I was not disappointed. This story was a bit of a departure from most recent Sawyer books, but a return to some of the older Sawyer books, if that makes any sense. The steam/spice level is relatively low, but the chemistry that only Sawyer can deliver was there!

This book gave all the feels and all the emotions, in addition to humor. This wasn’t just Ethan’s journey, or Ethan’s and Marcie’s journey, but it was Sylvie’s journey as well. Often when the storyline is of a single parent, the child in the story seems to get lost and the story seems to focus more on the couple. Sylvie was just as much a part of this story as Ethan and Marcie. I’d actually go so far as to say Sylvie was more a part of the story than Marcie.

Sylvie’s mother raised her primarily in France, so she was fluent in French. The scenes where she mocked Ethan in French were hilarious! And I thought Ethan’s solution in dealing with her French dialogue were brilliant.

I loved all of the characters in this book, be they main or supporting characters. When it comes to series, especially a family series Sawyer is very good at setting up the upcoming storylines without having you lose focus of the current storyline. As Sylvie’s uncle, Gabe was introduced as one of the antagonists, but you quickly realize there is more to this guy, and he most definitely is someone who wants the best for his niece. With that being said, next up in this Bluegrass series we’ll get Gabe Maddragon’s and Kat Blackburn’s story.

I actually did double duty on this story with a visual and audio read. With the narrators selected for these characters, Sean Masterson and Kit Swann it was easy to transition from one to the other. I’ve listened to, and have enjoyed these narrators in other books, but this wasn’t my favorite for either of them. I think I enjoyed the visual read a bit more. But the audio is definitely worth the listen.

Release Blitz for Sawyer Bennett's Foster (Pittsburgh Titans, Book #13)

Synopsis:

When Foster McInnis’ ex-wife flakes and he finds himself with full custody of his daughter, the nanny he hires brings a new complication—an attraction he can’t ignore, no matter how hard he tries.

I love being on the ice and am grateful for my hockey career, but the off season is my favorite time of the year because it brings me my one true love—my daughter, Bowie Jane. Between my job and my ex-wife living across the country, the time I get to spend face-to-face with my kiddo is limited, though we make up for it with summers full of fun adventures. We’re thick as thieves and take full advantage of our time together, but the distance away from her is killing me.

My fortunes change when my ex walks away and I find myself with full custody. But with the hockey season looming, I know I’m going to need help taking care of Bowie Jane. Enter Mary Elizabeth Archer—otherwise known as Mazzy. Highly recommended to me through the Titans’ network, Mazzy crashes into our life like a hurricane. She’s unlike anyone I’ve ever met and to say I’m intrigued is an understatement. But no matter how attractive she is, no matter how I crave to know everything about her, I can’t go there. It’s inappropriate. Just wrong, wrong, wrong, even though she might be the most right thing I’ve ever known.

Being the indescribable force she is, there is soon no corner of our lives that Mazzy hasn’t impacted in a positive way. And my desire for more with her becomes far stronger than my misguided idea that I could ever resist this woman.  Our attraction burns hot and keeping our eyes, hands and mouths off one another gets harder by the minute. It doesn’t take long for me to know that I’m all in with Mazzy. She’s my end game and, lucky for me, winning is my specialty.

Trinette Dungee's 3 Star Review

The Titan’s are back for another season and continuing to building their roster; with a whole new set of players, next in line fall to get bitten by that love bug is Foster McInnis. The most important person in Foster McInnis’ life is his daughter, Bowie Jane. When he was traded to the Pittsburgh Titans, he went from spending time with her on a regular basis to living on the other side of the country and seeing her in smaller increments and summer holiday. That changes when his ex-wife starts to put her own needs above their daughter’s. Foster now has his daughter fulltime and needs a full-time nanny ASAP.

Mazzy Archer proves to be just what Foster needs, in more ways than one. She and Bowie Jane have an immediate connection, which is the most important thing; but there’s also a connection between Foster and Mazzy.

This was a quick read with next to no angst. This was strictly Foster and Mazzy giving into their needs while maintaining the well-being of Bowie Jane. I liked both characters. Despite the fact that he was extremely young when Bowie Jane was born, Foster fell into fatherhood easily and proves to be the balanced parent. Mazzy is secure in who she is, and isn’t afraid to make the necessary moves for her and Foster to be together, while making sure Bowie Jane’s needs are met. What I also liked about this story, is Bowie Jane’s involvement. Bowie Jane was basically written as a third main character. There were times she seemed a bit mature to be ten, but it happens. I loved how Foster and Mazzy communicated with Bowie Jane. There was open dialogue with her.

Again, this was a very short read. It might not be my favorite Titan’s book, but I liked Foster and Mazzy a lot. This should be added to your summer reading list. It’s definitely a poolside ride. It’s a good pallet cleanser in the event you’ve been reading a lot of high angst and high sex books and need a break. Or if you’ve the passenger on a short road trip.

Biting banter is all they know. But messy feelings have a way of coming to the surface

in this beachside romance from USA Today bestselling author R.S. Grey.

Paige Young and Cole Clark are polar opposites. A world traveler since birth, Paige loves to

lead activities for guests at a luxury island resort in Turks and Caicos. From bingo nights to

cliffside hikes, Paige is up for anything. Cole, meanwhile, prefers his number-crunching

desk job. He's the assistant director at the resort—stiff and meticulous. He's so by the book

that he keeps the book. In his desk drawer. They're perfectly aligned in one way,

though—their ability to drive each other crazy. Every day brings a fresh battle of

wits. They're rivals, archnemeses...and they're definitely never going

to talk about that one time they kissed. Ha ha. Nope!

But when Paige finds out that Cole has been ordered to fire her on the same day a

hurricane threatens their little slice of paradise, it's clear

the game is over.

At odds, in peril, and forced to shelter in place together, these two enemies

might finally have to confront their true feelings. (You know, the ones

Lisa Kane's 3.5 Star Review

I am a huge fan of this author's works. She usually writes rom/com's like nobody's business. But...this one just lacked something for me. The female lead character, Paige, is immature and blurts out the most inappropriate comments to Cole, the hero of the story. Cole is much more reserved, given his upbringing he tries his best to break out from the mundane childhood he endured. Paige is a free spirit, raised by parents who travelled the world, with her in tow. She is putting down roots on Turks and Caicos working excursions for the Siesta Playa resort.

Cole is the assistant director of operations and loves working with numbers. It allows him to be analytical and structured. Things he welcomes in his life. But he does allow himself a little fantasy world and that would be his longing for Paige. He's been attracted to his since the first time he met her, but they seem to be playing a never ending cat and mouse game.

When Paige's position is threatened by Cole's slimy boss, Todd, he's determined to protect Paige by digging a little into Todd's dealings with the company. He's been suspecting for a while that Todd's up to something. Cole needs proof before he can make any accusations. Now here's where I had some cringey moments. There are multiple references to Todd's weight and his sloppy eating habits. Stop, just stop. I have no problem in calling out a character's flaws and evil doing, but I draw the line at poking fun of someone's weight.

There is some cute banter between the main characters in their frenemies journey, but a lot of the dialogue fell flat for me. I know what this author is capable of-she's one of my favorites but something just felt off with this one. They had such an adversarial relationship and then bam-they are suddenly lovers. This one off is not going to stop me from reading whatever the author releases next.

Release Blitz for Penelope Ward's The Surrogate

RELEASE BLITZ

Title: The Surrogate

Author: Penelope Ward

Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance

Tropes: Age Gap/Widower/Found Family

Forbidden/Enemies to Friends to Lovers

Release Date: February 26, 2024

BLURB

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE novel…

ABBY:

I’m falling for the father of the baby I’m carrying.

The problem is: it’s not my baby.

And the broody widower is not looking for a long-term partner.

As a surrogate, the deal was that I’d only be in England long enough to give birth.

At first, the man seemed as pretentious as his name: Sigmund Benedictus

He and I butted heads.

Sig challenged my intentions, accused me of just wanting to do this for the money.

Gradually, he learned to trust me.

He even became protective.

Over time, our heated animosity turned into fiery chemistry.

I was falling in love with him.

But my time here had a limit.

I needed to protect my heart from the devastatingly gorgeous older man

who’d end up breaking it.

SIG:

When my in-laws told me they wanted to use my dead wife’s eggs to conceive a grandchild,

I wasn’t immediately on board.

They swore that on her deathbed Britney told them it was what she wanted—but only

if I fathered the baby. Her parents insisted they would be the ones to raise it.

Against my better judgment, I agreed.

I vowed to keep my heart out of it, though.

I’d continue to pretend it wasn’t happening and live the empty, single life

I’d become accustomed to the past five years since Britney died.

And despite the fact that a certain younger American named

Abby Knickerbocker had awakened things inside me that I thought were long dead…

I most certainly wouldn’t fall in love with the surrogate.

Lisa Kane's 4 Star Review!

Sigmund first appeared as a secondary character in The Aristocrat. You don't need to read that book first, but it does enrich the back story if you do. He was a player at that time, until he met the love of his life. Sig was married for a short period but lost his wife to cancer early in their marriage. He has been unable to move on, other then his cousin Leo and his wife Felicity, his world revolves around work. There is an elderly woman whom he is close to, named Lavinia, and she reminds him that he needs to join the world of the living.

His in-laws, Kate and Phil, have proposed to him that it's time to use one of Britney's eggs. They would like to honor her request to have the child she wished for and to raise it. If Sig was willing to be the father, that would be even better, but that is up to him. They have a surrogate in mind, Abby Knickerbocker, the daughter of a friend of theirs. She is aware of the situation and wants to help. Her own life has been in a state of flux the last few years, having lost her mother, her fiance and the family's business. She can either brood about it for the next year, or make the next year really count for something.

Sig is not keen on this idea, in fact he is pretty emphatic that he is no where near to being ready for this kind of change. His first few meetings with Abby are not ideal and the two are a bottle full of oil and vinegar. But Abby does make Sig think about a lot of things in his life and he decides maybe this idea could work out.

From the time Abby moves to London to prepare for the insemination and eventual pregnancy there is plenty of Abby/Sig moments. This is such an intimate step both are taking and emotions run high. Of course, there are a few dramatic moments that plummet your stomach but there are an equal amount of sweet, makes one teary moments to balance out the angst.

The Surrogate is a solid read, with fully developed characters. Getting updates on Leo and Felicity is no hardship either.
