5 star review

What can I say, Cassia Leo has done it again.  I could not wait to get my hands on Pieces of You.  With every teaser that was posted, I became more and more nervous about what was going to happen.  Pieces of You completely surprised me, in a good way.  It made me laugh, cry, smile, broke my heart and caused me to have a book hangover for days.

Pieces of You starts off where we left off. Claire is away at college and Adam is away on business for for his father. While they are miles a part Claire is now trying to deal with the fact that Chris is back in her life and there is a possibility that her daughter may be as well. While Chris' musical career is everything he could have hoped for, his personal life is causing him pain. He loves Claire and wants her back and he wants the two of them to be able to see their daughter.  He isn't happy with the secret that Claire kept from him but he understands why she did it and carries around the guilt of knowing that if he stayed things would be so different. But he is having a hard time with the fact that she is with Adam and that she loves him despite the fact that they have only been together for a short period of time. Chris believes that they belong together and will do everything he can to prove it to her.  With Adam away that makes for one interesting story.

I honestly love Claire, and I feel for her and all that she has gone through.  I do think that Claire still has some growing to do, and I hope to see that in the next book.  There were times when she frustrated me to no end and times when my heart just broke for her.  She has gone through a lot of pain and guilt over the last year and has been trying to get past it all and move on.  It's still a struggle for her especially with Chris back in the picture.  Moving on may not be as simple as it seems.   Adam has helped her move on and has changed her for the better, but Chris will always be her first love and will always be in her heat.  And regardless of the fact that she has a tough decision to make, she has two amazing men that love her with all their heart, so you could say she is a lucky girl.  But which guy is the better choice and who will she choose?

Let's start with Adam. I will admit that I have been Team Adam from the beginning. I honestly love Adam and I think that he is good for Claire. He makes her happy and lights that spark that has been missing since Chris left. He understands her and never judged her for her past decisions. And at the same time Adam has opened up to Claire in many ways, and told her his secrets, even when faced with the fear of losing her if she knew the truth. Claire makes him want to be a better person. . Adam is stuck miles away from Claire while she deals with her ex on a regular basis and going through the pain and guilt all over again of giving up her child. When she was with Adam, before Chris came back, everything was perfect. She was moving on and healing. But with Chris back in her life it seems that the pain and guilt have come back. Adam cannot be there for her at the times when she needs him the most and that just flat out kills him, especially knowing that the one person he can lose her to, is the one that would be there to help her through it all. Adam makes a stupid mistake, one that could change things, but I have to admit I completely understand why he did it.  Even if it wasn't the best decision.  Adam loves Claire and wants what is best for her, but sometimes what you think is best for one person may not exactly be what they want or what they need, and Adam and Claire will soon learn that. When you love some one as much as Adam and Claire do maybe letting go and giving each other time to figure things out and heal is for the best. But will that time apart heal all wounds or end up causing new ones?

"I love you, Claire.  I want you to know that I won't do anything to jeopardize what we have." ~ Adam

Then there is Chris, the rock star ex-boyfriend who still loves Claire and regrets leaving her to become a star. There is not doubt in my mind that Chris loves Claire and he will go through great lengths to get her back.  But that being said, I didn't agree with some of his actions when it came to getting her back.  I think there were times when he acted out of fear that she would choose Adam, rather than acting out of love and doing what was best for Claire.  Chris and Claire have a lot of history, history that in my opinion brings up a lot of pain for Claire.  And while she loves Chris and he will always be in her heart, I think she needs to move on from the past and look to the future.  A future with Adam of course.  But Chris plans on fighting until the end for Claire.

"You're a part of me that I can't let go.  I refuse to let go.  I'm not myself without you." ~ Chris

Of course this is all just my opinion and there are people out there who will agree with me and then there are those who are Team Chris and will totally disagree.  But I think that the one thing that we can all agree on, is how passionate we have all become about this series and the characters.  And whether you are Team Adam or Team Chris, what really matters is that Cassia Leo has delivered another amazing story.  Ms. Leo has a way of connecting the readers to her characters, making the reader fall in love with them and become so passionate about them.

Pieces of You is about Adam and Claire trying to stay strong and stay together while they are miles apart, and not letting the past get in the way of what they have together.  But stupid mistakes and past loves get in the way, leaving Claire with the tough choice of deciding what is best for her.  This story soon turns into more than just Adam and Claire's story and their struggle to stay together.  Chris, as well as Claire's past play a big part as well. I don't want to give to much away because I want you to experience this ride for yourself.

I knew this book was going to rip me apart, and it ways it did, just not in the way that I thought.  Cassia Leo will take you on one heck of a journey filled with so many emotions.  There were moments where I was so frustrated with some of the decisions made that I wanted to throw my IPad.  There were moments where I got that knot in my stomach and had to step away for a moment, not wanting to read what came next.  There is some heartache and some sadness.  But Ms. Leo also made me laugh and smile, because there were tender and sweet moments that will melt your heart.  And then I got to the end and kept sliding my finger over my IPad to get to the next page and then I realized that it was the last page and sat there staring at the screen.    But no matter what emotions I felt, no matter how angry, sad or frustrated I became it was all worth it.  Any book that can bring out that many emotions,  make you think about the book days after reading it, and bring out that much love and passion for the characters in the book, in my opinion is an amazing book.  And an amazing story is exactly what Ms. Leo delivered.  Cassia Leo, is a very talented writer whose work I absolutely love.  I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us in the third installment of the Shattered Hearts Series.  I am nervous just thinking about it.

  1. Fabulous review! I love this series and it also makes me a nervous wreck now, just thinking about book 3. No matter who Claire chooses, I think it'll be heartbreaking because someone is going to get hurt. Now with saying that, I'm Team Adam 100%! I agree on your points of them being together. I don't dislike Chris, but just think she is a better fit with Adam.

Sidenote: Glad to see I wasn't the only one on the verge of wanting to throw my iPad during certain parts of the book! ;) My emotions went through the ringer, but in a way it's a good thing because that just means it was really well written & made me feel what the characters were going through! Cassia did an excellent job!
