Regan
I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two months later, I'm at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays. He says he's here to save me, but can I trust him? All I know of him are his sarcastic retorts and his tendency to solve every dispute with his gun. He's also the only safe thing in my world, and I know it's wrong to fall in love with him, but I can't seem to help myself. He says he’ll protect me until his last breath but I don’t know if I should believe him or even if I can.
Daniel
For the last eighteen months, I’ve had one goal: to find my kidnapped sister. I’ve left the Army, turned paid hit man, and have befriended criminals all across the globe. In every brothel I raid or every human trafficking truck I stop, her face is the one I’m desperate to see. In Rio, I find Regan Porter, bruised but not broken and still sane despite her weeks in hell. I should leave her behind or send her home because the last thing either of us needs is to get involved. But with every passing minute, I find I can’t let her go.

Review by Jen Hagen
We caught a glimpse of Daniel in the first book, Last
Hit, and now we get to know him and his back story.
Daniel was originally a sniper in the army but when he received the emergency phone call during his tour overseas, he immediately left for home in Texas. Daniel’s home is a ranch in Texas with his mother and father. His sister, Naomi, had been kidnapped while on spring break in Cancun. Daniel has been informed by his parents he is not to return home until he has found his sister. Daniel has become a mercenary infiltrating human trafficking compounds in hopes of finding his sister.
Regan was incorrectly identified as a person of interest
to the Russian mafia and because of her mistaken identity was kidnapped. She has been held as a sex slave for the past
6 weeks. After her initial capture she
was taken to Russia and is currently being held captive in Rio.
Daniel’s acquaintance and former hit man, Nick, has put
Daniel in charge of a rescue mission for Regan as it was because of his past
that she was kidnapped. Daniel finds
Regan and ends up taking her to his apartment.
Daniel is sweet and witty.
Conversation is never dull when around Daniel. He is extremely loyal to his family and
friends and he will make certain that Regan will be returned home safely. Even though he’s loyal doesn’t mean his
thoughts aren’t always spot on albeit a little crude. I always found myself silently laughing when
Daniel would talk about Nick.
Daisy and Nick were
perfect for each other. He was a crazy
psychopath and she didn’t know any better that he wasn’t normal.
Daniel has new information on his sister and her possible
location. He is caught in a conundrum
with Regan not leaving his side and his needing to leave to find his
sister. In between all this, Regan and
Daniel have developed a romantic relationship.
Regan feels extremely safe with Daniel and even with all the horrid sex
acts that she was forced to give and take, she can still find it in her to
relax with Daniel and even admit that she is falling in love with him. Daniel puts her at ease and would never do
anything that Regan wouldn’t want him to.
Daniel reciprocates the same feelings towards her.
Daniel and Regan are placing themselves in danger by
their continued quest to find Naomi.
Regan is purposely being placed into the hands of the man she was seeking
escape from in order to gain information on Daniel’s sister. Things never go as they are planned…
The minute that she’s
free, she’s back in my arms and the tears are falling. I’m pretty sure some of them are mine.
This was a long read, but I don’t know what could be cut
out while still maintaining the in-depth storyline. Whereas Nick (from Last Hit) was quiet and really
had no sense of humor but still emitted authority, Daniel’s presence is still
very much in control but he maintains that with a sense of humor and
sexuality. Daniel is very loving and is
vocal in making certain Regan understands how much he loves her. I liked Nick
with his “da” and “nyet” along with his lack of sense of humor, but Daniel’s wit and his strong love places
him at an advantage over Nick in the battle of the hit men.
“I’m with you until
my last breath.”
Even hit men need love! Thanks for the review and the giveaway. I enjoyed the first book quite a bit, so looking forward to this one.
