4.5 star review by Allison East

I really enjoyed this debut novel from Elle Michaels. She told a captivating story- with tears, happiness and drama mixed all into one.

The main character Brooke has gone through the worst thing imaginable for a mother and my heart broke for her. Her husband and child both killed in a car accident. And after
picking herself up by her bootstraps- she moves away from home to start over.

When we first meet Brooke, she is in her new apartment and has two new friends to help her to not be so lonely.

Jenna is the best friend- they get along really well, and are similar in a lot of ways. She brings Brooke so much happiness and I am thankful she had that.

Then there is Tyler, the guy Brooke spills her coffee on, when they meet for the first time. They strike up a lasting friendship- and Brooke starts to have real feelings for him, but never says a word.

When Tyler admits to Brooke that he wants more than a friendship she is wary to say the least. But, she also knows that this relationship could be great if she gave him a chance. They are technically best friends, and Tyler is willing to move slowly for her sake- I mean she has to say yes.

She is so worried to let anyone get close to her because she doesn't do loss very well- and its totally understandable. She is worried he will leave her if the relationship doesn't work out, and that leaves her feeling more than a little anxious. I could see where Brooke was coming from; losing everything- then gaining a best friend, only to possibly lose him- she was wary, totally get it.

I loved Tyler, completely loved him, he was a great friend and boyfriend to Brooke. Just what she needed, someone attentive, understanding and willing to do whatever it took to make Brooke feel comfortable- and I mean everything. He knows when to give her space and take a step back,. But he also knows when she might need space- and gives her the time she needs to figure out what she wants, but he will never give up.

I really liked Brooke too, but looking back- we get flashbacks into her relationship with her husband, she kind of had her blinders up, and should have left him as soon as she saw all of these red flags. We see him as someone who showed her no respect and she stayed with him through it all. I am so glad she came to the realization and stopped living in the past as far as Matt was concerned, and let herself move on with Tyler.

There are some twists and turns, and some holy $#!+ moments as well. Things that you will try to guess but never expect. That made the whole plot line very interesting.

Overall, fantastic debut novel- I laughed and cried, and laughed some more. And maybe cried a little more too at the ending. Loved everything about it. Can't wait for more from Ms. Michaels.
