Review: Where We Belong by KL Grayson

Regret . . . she's a snarky little bitch.

I’ve tried several times to regret the events that took place on June 5, 2008, but for the life of me, I can’t. I'd never regret the pain, the suffering, or the heartache because it ultimately led me to the place I am now. And I can’t regret the place I am now. What I still can't figure out is this: how is it possible that the single worst day of my life inadvertently became the very best day?

Five years ago my life was irrevocably changed.

Seventeen minutes was all it took—
to lose my best friend…
to lose the love of my life…

Seventeen minutes was all it took for the seeds of hope—the seeds of my future—to be planted in the worst possible way.

My name is Harley Thompson, and this is my story.

4 Star Review by Jen Skewes

Where We Belong is KL Grayson’s debut novel and I loved it.  This is Tyson and Harley’s second chance at friendship and love.

Ty and Harley have been best friends since they were kids.  They just graduated college and Ty has just told Harley that he is moving to New York with his girlfriend to go to medical school.  Harley is completely shocked to hear that her best friend is moving away and is just telling her now.  Bit she decides that since he is moving that this is the perfect tome to finally tell him how she feels.  Harley has been in love with Ty and she’s hoping that if she tells him the truth that things will chance.  That he will stay here and be with her.  But things do not work out as planned at all.  And not only did she not get the guy but she also lost her best friend.

Five years have gone by since that night.  Since she confessed her love and lost her best friend.  Ty and Harley have not spoken since that night.  She had reched out to him because that night ended up being one of the worst nights of her life and she needed him more than anyone.  But he wasn’t there for her. He completely shattered her heart that night.

It’s been 5 years and Ty is back home.  He is now a doctor and working at the same hospital as Harley.  Ty has regretted his decisions for the past 5 years.  He has thought of Harley every day since then and now that he has moved back home he has every intention of making it up to her.  He knows he hurt her and knows that jumping right into a relationship is not going to work.   He needs to fix their friendship first.  Harley needs to be able to forgive him before they can move further.  But at some point Ty plans on telling Harley how he really feels about her and make Harley his.

Harley is not sure that she can forgive Ty for breaking her heart.  But at the same time she has a hard time staying away.  Her feelings for him are still there.  And while she is not ready to just jump on into a relationship she is willing to try to move forward and see where things go.  But Harley has a secret that she has yet to tell Ty and it is one that could make things more difficult and complicated.  When that secret comes out will it send Ty running or will they both be able to get past it?

I am going to be honest and say that in the very beginning I wanted to throat punch Ty for leaving.  I hated his girlfriend Brit, all though I didn’t really even know her.  But you sensed from the very beginning of this book how Ty felt about Harley and it just seems like he took the easy way out which meant hurting his best friend and losing her in the process.  He had his path all paved out and I get that.  I understand being afraid to deviate from the plan and worrying about everyone else in the process but just because I understood it doesn’t mean I was ok with the way he handled it.  But with that being said he more than made up for his poor choice.  He proved how much he loved Harley.  How much she meant to him and how much he truly regretted walking out on her 5 years ago.  You felt it all and I wanted nothing more than to see these two get their second chance at happiness with each other.  They belonged together.

I loved Harley and felt bad for her at times.  She is one hell of a strong woman and what she went through and where she is five years later shows exactly how strong she is. She also had an amazing support team in Levi and Quinn, her two best friends.  They were there with her through thick and thin.  They were there in her darkest moments and helped her through it all.  And they were also there to make her see how much her and Ty were meant to be together.  And then there is Max who was adorable and cute and I loved seeing how quickly him and Ty became close.

Where We Belong is a fantastic debut novel.  I fell in love with Harley and Ty and thought they were just perfect together.  I felt their connection and the love that they had for each other.  I cannot wait for Levi’s story.  I just loved him and cannot wait to see him get his HEA.
