Blog Tour: Confess by Colleen Hoover

CONFESS
BY COLLEEN HOOVER

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a new novel about risking everything for love—and finding your heart somewhere between the truth and lies.

Auburn Reed has her entire life mapped out. Her goals are in sight and there’s no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to find a deep attraction to the enigmatic artist who works there, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a risk and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is keeping some major secrets from coming out. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything important to Auburn, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it.

The last thing Owen wants is to lose Auburn, but he can’t seem to convince her that truth is sometimes as subjective as art. All he would have to do to save their relationship is confess. But in this case, the confession could be much more destructive than the actual sin…

5 Star Review by Bill Downey

Sometimes a particular book comes along at just the right time for the frame of mind you’re in at the time; this was the case for me with Colleen Hoover’s latest masterpiece, “ Confess “. This story is just so damn good!  I devoured it as quickly as any I have ever read; it has many layers but has a quick paced even flow to it, with no slow points along the way. We had the moments of humor and of course the excellent writing we’ve come to expect with strong characters we fall for and fell hard. Oh, and by the way the prologue is amongst the best I have ever read.  This book has quickly become my second favorite Colleen Hoover novel which is a very lofty perch. (My all-time favorite CH book is Hopeless)

“I look down at the painting in my hands, and I flip it over. I read the last words Adam will ever write to her.   I’ll love you forever.  Even when I can’t. “

This is the journey of Auburn Reed and Owen Gentry. Their story is one of painful loss, flat out lies, lies for the sake of good intentions, drug abuse, risk and betrayal. Throw into that mix a very despicable villain that I wanted to reach into the book and strangle – (I hated that POS!) a young child’s life hanging in the balance and an artist’s god given talent. And the glue holding it all together? It’s the deep chemistry between our leading couple.

Auburn has a plan for her life but due to a devastating tragedy and a beloved blessing she is forced to grow up fast.  When she answers an ad for help at a local art studio there is an instant attraction to the young talented artist who owns the studio.

“Are you here to save me? He asks, pulling my attention back to his eyes. He’s smiling, holding the door open with his elbow. He assesses me from head to toe and I can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking. "

Owen also has a painful past that includes an unspeakably horrible accident which is still causing a void between him and his wealthy lawyer father.  The twists and turns of the road to Owen and Auburn being together are intense at times, touching and emotional. I especially loved the very clever role the confessions played in the story and how they inspire Owen’s artwork – sheer genius!

“They’re all confessions,” I say in awe.  “Are these from actual people? People you know?” He shakes his head and motions toward the front door. “They’re all anonymous. People leave their confessions in the slot over there, and I use some of them as inspiration for my art.”

My confession – I loved this book, it’s a five star gem of a read. My hope is that everyone reads it and loves it as much as I did. I’ll love this book forever. Even when I can’t.
