4.5 Star Review by Jen Hagen
My first book by Ms. Fantome was a love triangle (one of
my favorite taboo genres) and after that I discovered that she had previously
written a 4-part series involving a hot alpha male. Once I consumed the man known as Jameson
Kane, I quickly realized that I would read anything written by her. She has a very unique way of writing and her
plots are hands down some of the best ever.
In this newest release, I was once again taken aback by the ability of
her writing to take you where no one else has.
I have never read about driving through Africa with guns blazing!
Marc is a mercenary.
He has been hired to steal diamonds and once acquired they will be
transferred to Lily, the transporter, who will be delivering them to proud new
owner in Moscow. It’s a big heist with a
big payoff. Every scenario has been
played through their heads of what could go wrong and how to go with an
alternate plan. What neither of them
planned on was the best sex of their lives with each other only to find
themselves enemies the very next day.
Marc the Master of
Sex from the night before was long gone.
Marcelle De Sant the Mercenary was in the car, and she didn’t like him
very much.
Lily has a hidden agenda as to why she needs to complete
this job. She will stop at nothing until
she gets to the finish line in Moscow.
Chains, land mines, bounties…it’s all a matter of a day’s work…or 5 days
as that is the time frame she has to deliver the diamonds. Marc is along for the ride because, well…he
pretty much insisted on coming along due to a slight misunderstanding and he
wants those diamonds back. It’s not the
joy ride they had the night before.
“You don’t have
the balls to shoot me.”
She lowered her
gun a couple inches and fired again, directly between his legs. The bullet pinged into the sand at the edge
of the road, right in front of him. When
she sighted back on his head, he looked decidedly less confident.
“In two minutes,
you won’t have balls, either.”
Oh the banter between these two is off the charts. They hate each…they can’t keep their hands
off each other…they don’t trust each other…they have hot sex. It’s a never-ending battle between them. I will
say that initially I was a little taken aback by the physical violence they had
towards one another.
In this line of business there’s no room for
relationships so it’s no wonder that Marc doesn’t know how to treat a
lady. He’s been a one-night man
forever. Lily doesn’t do relationships
because she’s so focused on the end game.
Her head has only been able to think of how the game needs to be played.
Lily is a fiery red head and she is
unstoppable. Marc is drawn to her and
waivers between staying to help her finish the game or leave her to her own
defense while he goes back to his life (with the diamonds of course!) He may be a crude lover, but he does have
moments of clarity where he speaks from the heart.
“At night, when
I’m alone, in some kind of trouble that I’ve no doubt gotten myself into,” he
started, and they both chuckled, “I’ll picture your eyes. Your smile, your body, your voice. But most of all your eyes. I could look into them forever. I’ll miss them. Will miss seeing you look at me.”
They burn up the sheets when they aren’t fighting.
Is this the end of their love/hate relationship? And what about the diamonds? Who has them? This is a fast-paced read with
the story covering 6 days’ time. It does end on a cliffy, and I cannot wait to
read the end of their story. I loved the
addition of a secondary character, Kingsley, to add to the duo’s already
humor-filled adventures.
She came back around to his front and watched him as he loaded up the rest of
his gear. Thigh holsters, shoulder holster, ankle holster; pretty much anywhere
he could hang a gun, there was a holster. When he glanced at her, she had her
eyebrows raised in surprise.
“What?”
he looked himself over, looking to see if he'd missed anything.
“That's
a lot of gear,” she commented.
“Can
never be too careful. I don't feel like dying tonight.”
“Why
are you getting ready here, anyway? Don't you have a home?” she pointed out. He
snorted.
“Sweetheart,
the job starts here and ends here. I don't want anyone following me back to my
place – not even these fuckers. I don't let anyone see where I sleep,” Marc
stressed. She pouted her lips.
“Pity.”
“Why?”
She
stepped up close to him, standing on her tiptoes so her mouth was near his ear.
“Because
I'd love
to see where you sleep.”
About the Author
Crazy woman living in an
undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a
necessity!), I have been writing since ..., forever? Yeah, that sounds about
right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see
shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm
clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.
I
like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't
drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six
months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid
hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even
I can't understand me.
Yeah.
I think that about sums me up.
