Review: Even the Score by Beth Ehemann

Single dad Andy Shaw loves his job as a sports agent, with one exception: it doesn’t leave him much time for his kids. No parent likes being sidelined, so Andy decides to hire someone to share the workload. But when one of the hottest agents in the industry applies, Andy knows that this deal is definitely trouble.

Danicka Douglas works her butt off, but being an attractive woman in a testosterone-heavy industry isn’t exactly a cakewalk. She guards her professional reputation fiercely, which means no crushing on her gorgeous boss. But the more they ignore that sexy little spark, the more it sizzles…

Just when it looks like romance might be in the game plan, Dani is threatened by a stalker with dark intentions. To keep her safe, Andy must cross the line between professional and very personal…because this time, he’s playing for keeps.

Even the Score is the book that I have been waiting for. After reading The Cranberry Inn Series and meeting Andy I knew I needed his book.  I loved Brody but there was just something about Andy.  From the moment I knew he was divorcing his bitch of a wife I wanted his story.  And Beth Ehemann did not disappoint.  If anything she completely exceeded my expectations and made me fall in love with Andy even more than I already have.

What I love about this series the most is the friendships and bonds that these characters have.  Andy, Brody and Viper have this amazing friendship or bromance if you will.  They can be fun and screw around with each other as boys will do but they can also be serious and discuss the important moments in their lives.  But no matter what they are all there for each other no matter what.  And we still get to see that in this book.  Each character has found love but they have each found it in their own way and had their own struggles, all being very different.  And that is what I loved about this book and this series.  Each hero had their own story to tell and while Viper’s was emotional and Brody’s was sweet and romantic, Andy’s has a bit of angst and suspense.

Andy found love once but when he finally woke up and realized what a bitch his wife really was he divorced her.  Now is his second chance at finding the right woman to spend his life wth.  This is exactly what I loved about Andy.  After everything that he went through with is wife you would think that he would be completely turned off by the thought of another relationship or marriage. But that is not Andy.  He is not a one night stand type of guy, never was.  He is the type of guy who wants to be married and share his life and kids with someone.  He just never thought that when he decided to hire another agent for his firm that she would end up being his someone.

I have to admit I wasn’t a big fan of Dani’s at first.  Maybe I just expected someone different for Andy. His ex was so nasty that I guess I thought someone wholesome and sweet was who he would find love with.  Now I am not saying that Dani is a bitch or anything like his ex, but I think her first assumptions about Andy and the fact that she is trying to succeed in an industry that is predominantly men, made her tougher on the outside.  As time went on she grew on me and I saw that there was more to her than the woman who felt she needed to prove herself, and maybe she did.  But what really got me was when she found herself needing Andy’s help, she took it and in the process it caused her to become close with his kids.  And that is where I completely fell for Dani.  You see this beautiful side of her that bonded with this little girl in the most adorable way.  It just melted my heart to see this girl not only fall in love with Andy but his kids as well.

Once again Beth Eheman has done an amazing job with this story.  I loved the slow burn between the two of them until the moment they were finally together.  I think Andy knew what he wanted when it came to Dani but she just needed to get on board. Even the Score has it’s moment of angst and suspense and there was this build up to that moment where you find out who was behind all of the drama.  Ms. Ehemann certainly kept you guessing.  But for me it felt like the suspense part of this book took away from the romance at times which was honestly my only issue.  Once these two realized their feelings I wanted more.  But overall I loved this book. I loved the connection between Andy and Dani.  The flirting, the banter and just how much Andy cared.  The way he wanted to help her and protect her is the exact reason why I love this man.  He is just a loving, sexy, caring person with a huge heart.  He loves his children and will do anything for them.  And when Dani needed him he was there.  Another amazing job.  I hope that we get to see more of these characters in some way because I really hate to have to say goodbye to them all.
