Borrow the bike. Win the race. Collect the cash. It should've been an easy job. Ran out of town with a broken leg and a lawsuit, my mother's latest flame swoops in like a knight in gilded armor. I have no intentions of becoming a happy family with the social climber and her wild daughter. A bottle of Jameson and a cracked skull gets my problem shipped to reform school, but I didn't bank on her returning.

The romance can be read as a standalone, however, the series is one story. The plot introduced in The Peer and the Puppet will continue in the following novels. Content suitable for 18+.

B.B. Reid can write characters just on the cusp of their adulthood. She can also write angst. The kind of angst that makes your stomach tense up and your fingers dig in a little harder into that Kindle.
Four Archer has always been on her own. Her mother -well let's just say this gold digger is a piece of work. Not to mention an abusive bitch. Four finds joy in racing but ends up in hot water. Her mother's lover comes to the rescue and moves them to a whole different world. Money, prestige, snobbery-it's a world where Four is the oddball. Not to mention that there's an alpha in residence and he's not about to let Four and mommy dearest make themselves too comfortable.
Ever McNamara is hot and gorgeous and spiteful. He makes Four pay for something she didn't do-but she is banished away for a whole year. But when she comes back, there's going to be hell to pay!
There are a few underlying plots going on in this story, so pay attention or it's easy to lose direction of the story line. I wasn't always sure why Ever took certain actions; his family is rich as hell and yet he takes dangerous risks that aren't necessary. Maybe it's a rebellion thing, maybe he wants to have no help at all from his father so he does it all on his own.
This is the first of a series of book with different characters being the focus. I wouldn't say this is a cliffy, but the story line is not neatly wrapped up on a bow and the reader knows how the story will play out. There's more than a few issues (one huge one!) unresolved so I am hoping that each subsequent story will tie up those loose ends. But knowing Ms. Reid, there will probably be a new issue for every one answered!
