Release Blitz: Hissy Fit by Lani Lynn Vale

He is the one that never looks her way.

He is handsome and strong.

He is rough around the edges and mean.

He is everything she’s ever wanted.

He doesn’t even know she exists.

Her life is a joke.

***

She doesn’t step on cracks in the sidewalk.

She laughs at inappropriate times.

She talks when she shouldn’t.

She is clumsy and trips on air.

She is finally on his radar.

God help her now.

Raleigh Jolie Crusie, is a walking disaster. Accidents and mayhem just seem to follow her, she's a magnet for mishaps. So when Ezra McDuff drops a box of condoms on her at the local Target, it really shouldn't come as any real surprise. When the said box causes her nose to bleed, well it's just par for the course. The fact that it's Ezra Doran McDuff, the guy she's crushed on since high school-the cherry on the humiliation sundae.

He made me bleed by dropping a box of condoms. On. My. Nose.
Dear sweet baby Jesus on a cracker.

Ezra is the town's heartthrob and the football and baseball coach. At the same school Raleigh teaches at. But he doesn't recognize her. He obviously doesn't see her at all..

When she is on his radar (she's been assigned to teach the sex ed class he's too busy to teach this semester) he suddenly sees her with fresh eyes. And other parts of him too.

"Why me?" I asked bluntly once I'd regained my composure. "I'm nobody. Is this a pity party date or something?"
He wasn't being serious.
Ezra McDuff, heartthrob and star in my own private fantasies for more years than I could count, was not asking me out on a date.
Hell had frozen over.

This is partly a story about the girl who known for being the klutz, the awkward duckling, who blossoms because of the attention of that special guy. But there's also some danger and mystery and creepy stuff going on too.

I am a lover of most things Ms. Vale writes. This one just didn't do it for me. I found Raleigh's disasters and accidents tiring and over down. One person having that many bruises and falls and nose bleeds at the drop of a hat just wore me out. They didn't endear me to her, they just exhausted me.

I think there were too many things going on in the story. A couple of things seemed to be there for shock value, but they broke up the flow of the story for me. Although this one didn't give me the "feels" I wouldn't hesitate to read whatever Ms. Vale writes next.

"I love you, Raleigh," I told her. "I love you like a quarterback loves the feel of the laces between his fingers. Like a baseball player loves the feel of an old, worn glove that he's put thousands of hours into. Like the goddamn sun and the moon."
