Hot Pick of the Week: The Rocker That Holds Me by Terri Anne Browning

Summary:
Touring with four rockers is the thing of dreams…

At least that is what people tell me. To me those four rockers are my family. They have watched over me from the time I was five years old. Protecting me from my mother and her drunken, drug addict rages. When they made it big they still watched over me. And when my monster of a mother died they took over as my guardians.

In the six years since that happened I have watched over the four men that
mean everything to me. I take care of them just as they once took care of me. I handle all the dirty work behind the scenes of a rockers life. It isn’t always pretty. At times it came be damn near disgusting, especially when I have to get rid of their one night stands. Ugh!

Taking care of them doesn’t bother me though. I mean it’s not like I’m in love with one of them. That would be crazy. Falling for a rocker is NOT smart.

Okay, so I’m not smart. I love my guys, and one of them kind of holds my heart in his big old rocker hand. But I’m dealing. I’ve been able to keep it my little secret for years now.
I’m not, however, dealing with this bug that I seem to have caught. It scares the hell out of me. I hate doctors, but I’m suddenly more worried about finding out what is wrong with me than what the doctor might do to me.

When I get my test results back my life will never be the same again…

Our 4.5 star review

“Like always you guys were taking care of me. It was one of the times my mother took a switch to me.”

This is a short novel that packs quite the punch. This one, for me at least, checked off all the boxes on my must have list; hot rockers, strong willed female lead, angst, lust and an HEA. Ember Jameson has spent the better part of her life being taken care of and taking care of the members of the group, Demon’s Wings.  Nik, Jesse, Shane and Drake met Emmie when she was a child and they were in their teens, all living in the same trailer park. Emmie was severely abused by her drug addict mother and the boys kept that secret for fear of losing her to social services. They did what they could for her; cleaning her bruises, making sure she had something to eat, hiding her out until her volatile mother’s moods passed. When they got older and hit the road on their way to success as a band, they sent her money, made sure she was taken care of, and when her mother died, obtained custody.

“He, like the rest of my guys, loved me more than anything in the world. And I loved him just as much.”

Fast forward a few years, Demon’s Wings is on fire, no longer struggling, they are the headliners. Emmie is all things to the band-assistant, groupie monitor, surrogate little sister, organizer, and everything to everybody in the group. The guys all dote on her, make sure their manager has paid her a very healthy salary, and have made a place for her on their tour bus for the last several years.  They are Emmie’s family, and she is their world. Though she does love one of them in a special way, not as a big brother or mentor as the others. And that part of her life she keeps secret, regardless of how it hurts to see the casual groupie skanks that fill the nights for the band.  Browning’s novel takes quite a twist and Emmie’s dreams for happiness intersect with the desires of one of the band’s members. How that unfolds and Emmie’s chance for the brass ring comprise the second half of the book. Browning’s characters are incredibly appealing, and each has its own unique personality.  This is a series, with each of the band member’s stories to be told. I for one can’t wait for the next one.
