4.5 star review

"I told you last night that I've waited a long time for you and I'll keep waiting if that's what you want."

Promise Me is Barbie Bohrman's debut novel and she did an amazing job with this story about love, second chances and forgiveness.

Sabrina watched her boyfriend Chris cheat on her with her best friend Lisa ten years ago.  It was bad boy Tyler Andersen who was there for her that night to comfort her and made her promise to get out of this town when she could and never look back.  Little did she know then that the boy who was there for her that night would end up being the man to capture her heart

It is ten years later and Sabrina kept her promise to Tyler.  After her high school graduation she left for college and never looked back.  But the reality was that no matter how much she tried to forget what happened that night, it still affected her in many ways.  Sabrina hasn't been in a relationship for fear of getting hurt, trust has become a big issue with her and as a result she has guarded her heart.  She hasn't been home in ten years because she simply does not want to face her past, plus the fact that she has lied to her family about what really happened with her and Chris.

Now it's ten years later and she is staring at an invitation to her class reunion with no intentions of going.  But it is her best friend Julia, who tries to convince her that she needs to go and confront what happened all those years ago.  She needs to face Chris and Lisa and get the closure she needs.   But that isn't the only reason for going back.  For the past ten years Tyler Anderson has been on her mind, wondering what would have happened if she stayed, wondering if he still thinks of her the way she does him.  She never really knew Tyler all that well and can't understand why she has these feeling for him. Are her feelings for him real or just a figment of her imagination?  The only way to find out is to go to the reunion.

"She shoots, she scores!" Julia is proud as a peacock and I can picture her bowing to a make believe audience in the middle of her office.

Tyler Andersen lost his mother at an early age and after that his father became abusive.  His father always made him feels like he was worthless and not good enough.  He was the local bad boy in high school, always getting in trouble, he was the guy that every girl dreamed of having.  But he had eyes for one girl, and that was Sabrina.  Tyler never thought he was good enough for Sabrina and knew that no matter how drawn to her he was he had to stay away.  It's been ten years since he last saw her, but she hasn't been far from his mind.  Hoping to see her again and on some level reconnect with her, he decides to go to the reunion as well.

When Sabrina returns home she has to now confront her past.  She needs to come face to face with her past in order for her to move on.  She not only needs to confront her Chris and Lisa, but her parents deserve to know the truth about what happened, and she needs to see if her feeling for Tyler are real and if they are, will they get a second chance at love?

The minute Tyler and Sabrina see each other they both know that everything that they have been feeling over the years is real.  That same connection that they had is still there.  Tyler let her go once and is not about to lose her again.  Sabrina is only in town for a few days but spends most of her time getting to know Tyler.  There is no denying the connection that they have for each other, both physically and emotionally.  Sabrina knows she is falling for Tyler and is willing to give a long distance relationship a shot.  Tyler loves Sabrina, and in the back of his mind knows that he still isn't good enough for her.  He isn't perfect and he manages to mess up and lose the only girl that he has ever loved.  The love that they have for each other is so strong and real, but is love enough?

"Before those perfect, delectable lips of yours say anything else, all you need to be certain of is this: I'm not letting you just up and walk out of my life after finding you again."... "You let me worry about how this is going to work...because it's going to work if it kills me."

Promise Me was a fun, sexy, witty and beautiful love story filled with a little bit of heartache.  From the moment that I first read the prologue I was completely hooked.  I loved Tyler even through his mistakes and imperfections.  He was sexy, sweet and loveable and you saw how deeply he loved Sabrina.

"Open your eyes." When I comply, his eyes are soft and fixed onto mine. "That was definitely waiting ten years for."

Sabrina was a great heroine.  I think going back home and confronting her past showed how strong and mature she was.  And her relationship with Tyler was anything but perfect but in the end she learned to forgive and followed her heart.  Her best friend Julia was hilarious and the kind of best friend that any girl would want by her side. Barbie Bohrman did such a wonderful job with Sabrina and Tyler's story.  As the reader you felt the emotions that the characters went through from love, to anger and frustration.  This is the story about two people finding each other after 10 years.  It's about a girl who learns to open up her heart again to love.  It's a story about trust and forgiveness.

Once that trust is broken can it ever be repaired? Will Sabrina and Tyler get their happily ever after?  You need to read it to find out.

A job well done by Ms. Bohrman.  I cannot wait for Julia's story.

"For the rest of my miserable life, I will do whatever it takes to earn back your trust and your love. I know it's not going to be easy but I can't walk away from you. I did it once and I'll never do it again."
