BLOG TOUR: Working It by Kendall Ryan

A story of heart-stopping, toe-curling passion by the beloved bestselling author of Hard to Love, Resisting Her, and The Impact of You.

Straight-laced and well-mannered southerner Emmy Clarke is out of her depth in New York City’s fashion world, but when she lands a job as an assistant at a modeling agency it seems like the perfect mix of business and pleasure. Working under the notoriously tyrannical Fiona Stone is a nightmare, but there’s one distinct perk: ogling the ridiculously hot male models who parade through the office—particularly rising star Ben Shaw.

Ben is everything Emmy’s not: exquisitely gorgeous, highly paid, and well-traveled. He’s also got more issues than Vogue. Emmy looks after Ben on photo shoots, but she refuses to become another one of his lusting groupies. Ben finds Emmy’s refreshingly real attitude to be surprisingly attractive.

Against a backdrop of the most fashionable cities in the world, casual flirting turns into an illicit affair, but when Ben’s twisted past is revealed, and the bitter Fiona catches wind of their relationship, their careers and hearts are threatened.

4 Star review by Jen Hagen

Emerson has just started a new job for Status Model Management as an executive assistant to the lady in charge, Fiona.  Emerson is an average person…wears average clothes, is probably below average height, wears sensible shoes instead of stilettos, and has breasts and curves that you don’t see on models.   Emerson’s boss loves to call Emerson out on her fashion faux pas in front of potential clients and peers.  Emerson may not fit into the world of fashion or modeling , but she always manages to keep her chin up and push forward.

Ben Shaw is the agency’s golden boy.  He generates a lot of interest and income for the agency.  Fiona seems to always work him into her mold of thinking and follow her demands in all aspects of his life, from what he eats and drinks to whom he sleeps with.  There’s something off with Fiona from the moment you meet her.  She’s a manipulative person who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Fiona, Ben and Emerson head to Paris for 3 months for fashion shows.  While in the city of love, Ben and Emerson develop somewhat of a sexual relationship that all began with innocent texts but turned into anything but innocent talking.

He seemed so polite and well mannered one minute and then BAM! Filthy mouthed the next.

And there’s a lot of bamming going on.  Lots of hot bamming…really hot bamming…smoking hot bamming… Is bamming even a word?

Ben is a straight shooter and tells Emerson like it is.  He doesn’t want a relationship, he’s just in it for the sex.  Emerson doesn’t do one-night stands, but she is caught between doing what her heart wants and living on the edge.   Emerson knows she’ll end up hurt, but she is willing to risk it for the short time she has with Ben.

My pesky heart was already in the game, sporting a jersey with his name on the back.  I was firmly on Team Ben.  Sh*t, I could be the team captain.

Ben is a closed off guy who only offers up information about himself if asked.  Even then he’ll say it’s a conversation for another day.  Granted, he is willing to tell her the truth but only after he has been prepared.  Ben is a loyal friend and keeps a secret about Fiona, even though he knows how much Emerson despises Fiona and her relentless pursuit of Ben.

They’d kept it all some big, elaborate secret.  I was beyond hurt.

Emerson and Ben had recently moved forward in their relationship after Ben admitted he was ready for more.  Emerson must have faith and trust in Ben’s recent declaration of love, but sometimes that isn’t even enough to get you through the hurt and deceit.  Their lives are in a holding pattern at this point, just waiting for time to pass for them to get the answers.

“Okay.  I guess we’ll…figure it out together.”

I loved the humor in this book!  It kept me laughing and when I wasn’t laughing, I was holding my stomach from wretching because of Fiona… That lady is something else.  I’m curious as to what everybody thinks about her “plan” and how long it had been in action.  My feeling is it has been in the works for 13 months without success because she needed Ben to complete it.   I’m not saying anything more about it, I didn’t spill the beans, but her part in the story is far from over.   Book two will be available in March 2014.  The author incorporated humor, angst, and hot sex into a book that has a unique storyline.  Her details of modeling and fashion shows are quite detailed and gives a big picture so that we can engross ourselves directly into the story.  Braydon is a secondary character that you will enjoy.  He is a modeling friend of Ben’s so he is sexy and has a great sense of humor.   He will have his own book in July 2014.
