Review and giveaway: A is for Alpha Male by Laurel Ulen Curtis

Synopsis

I’m Haley Whitfield, and I recently had the ingenious idea to enlist my mother, Allison, as my kick*ss sidekick and set out on a road trip.

This road trip wasn’t to be just any road trip, but a very special one indeed. An adventure with an acutely specific purpose-- to find our other halves. The peanut butter to our jelly. The i to our Phone. The stripper to our pole.

If our romantic desires were a personal ad, they would read something like this.

** Two sassy women (Ages twenty-seven and forty-nine respectively--Ouch. Okay, ages twenty-seven and thirty--with nineteen years experience-- respectively) seeking Alpha Males to love us with zeal and kiss us with skill. Gorgeous face and sexy, tattooed, hard body a must. If you aren’t a dangerous bad*ss with the x-rated skills and virility to match, don’t bother. Must be willing to protect us from danger, value our quirkiness, and keep your mouth shut when said quirkiness is what leads to said danger. Momma’s boys named Dan Smith need not apply.**

I know. It’s a bit wordy. In fact, it would probably cost a fortune. Luckily, we’re not ready for the personal ad. We’re not that desperate...yet.

This is my story.

Warning: Some explicit language and sexual content.

4.5 star review by Jen Skewes

I loved this book!  A is for Alpha Male is a quick, fun and witty read.  This is not my first book from Laurel Ulen Curtis.  I have read all of her other books and loved them so of course I could not wait to read this one.  A is for Alpha Male is very different from the author's usual work but I will say that she did an amazing job with it.

Haley and her mother are both huge fans of author Kristen Ashley.  They fall in love with all the male characters in her books.  They decide to take a road trip in search of the perfect KA book boyfriend.  They make a list of all the qualities that they want starting with alpha male, ending with zealous and 24 other qualities in between.  One of those traits being a cool name.  On their first stop Haley meets Dan Smith.  Alpha male? yes.  Really cool name? not at all.  But that didn't change the way she was attracted to him and the fact that she actually liked him.  They quickly became friends and when Haley went back on the road they continued that friendship, talking on the phone and texting each other.  But when Haley left to continue her trip leave she may have left a little piece of her heart as well.   Haley continued on her search for the perfect book boyfriend even though deep down she knew she found him.  But Haley wasn't so sure that Dan felt the same way about her.  They were friends, and if that was all she would get from him she would be ok with that.  But a part of her wanted more and thought that maybe he felt the same way.  There road trip finally comes to an end but before going home, Haley finds herself back in the first place that they stopped.  Wanting to see if Dan feels the same way about her as she does him.    Hmmmm....Does Dan have feelings for Haley that go beyond a friendship?  You will have to read to find out.

There are so many things that I loved about this book.  Haley and her mother have a relationship that I think most people wish they had with their mother.  Allison knew when to be a friend and when to be a mother.  They were honestly the best of friends who could talk about anything.  Allison was by far the coolest mom.  She was there to comfort her when needed, tell her when she was being a little too dramatic  which could be often.  But she was also there to have fun and be there for her as a friend and confidant.  Their relationship worked. It was very genuine and very real.

Now let's talk about Dan Smith.  I want my own Dan Smith, Dan-o, Danny!  I loved everything about him.  He was an alpha male but had a flirty side to him that was sexy.  He was also sweet and caring and awesome.  I loved the banter between the two of them.  Haley is a feisty, in your face, no holds barred kind of girl, who at times can be very dramatic   She says want she wants, at times sounding a little bit crazy.  But that never stopped Dan.  He knew exactly how to handle her form of crazy, how to give it right back to her, but in a good flirty kind of way.  Dan Smith may not have had the "cool" name but he was definitely book boyfriend worthy in every way. They were so cute and adorable together.

A is for Alpha Male is a really fun and enjoyable read.  It has a totally swoon worthy hero, a few twists towards the end, a little bit of drama and plenty of laugh out loud moments. This is one of those books that will keep you smiling and one you just cannot put down.   A book that you can relate to in so many ways, from the Zack Morris references to talking about a man's junk.  And an ending that was simply perfect!  This book is about a mother/daughter road trip with a love story in between.  Laurel Ulen Curtis did a fantastic job with the writing, and the characters.  I fell in love with Haley and Dan and thought that they were so perfect for each other.  I am really hoping for Dan's POV because I would love to get in his head.  Looking forward to the next on in this series.  This is a must read!
