Blog tour: Catch Me by Claire Contreras

Title: Catch Me

Author: Claire Contreras
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance.
Release Date: November 17th, 2013

BLURB:
In the past, I've always been given everything I've wanted, but nothing that I truly needed. I've experienced a lot of things in my twenty-five years, everything except the one thing I want. It's the one thing that can’t be bought. It can't even be taken, it has to be given. And nobody has ever given it to me, not really anyway.

Not until him.

Music is the center of both our lives, but as he found his place in it, I lost my way. He soared, while I spiraled down a destructive path.
I lost myself in more ways than I can count.

The ironic thing is that I didn’t realize how lost I was until he found me.

And now that he has, I have to wonder if he'll stay around long enough to catch me.

4 Star review by Jen Hagen

Brooklynn is 25 years old and has spent her entire life tolerating condescending remarks and being under the intense scrutiny from her successful parents.  I don’t think Brooklynn can even breathe correctly when she’s in the direct line of her mother.  Her father is the owner of a record label and is the best in the business.  He expects nothing less from his daughter and son.  In addition to having made a name for herself at the record company, Brooklynn has also started up her own business of custom microphones.  She is good at what she does, but she still can’t seem to escape the overbearing disgruntled parents.

When Brooklynn was 18 years old she suffered a loss that caused her heart to break and her soul to wither away.  With no one to catch her when she fell, she fell hard and ended up in rehab.  Brooklynn hasn’t allowed many people to get close to her, but those that she has protect her with a fierceness that would ward off any mother bear.   They worry that when faced with a reminder of the past she will return to her old ways of drugs and alcohol to numb the pain.  Unfortunately, one of the members of her close circle feels the need to make money more important than friendship.

Shea is a very close friend of Brooklynn’s who is a music super star.  They have been friends for years and have been bed buddies for several of those years.  Brooklynn has recently put an end to their friends with benefit status.  From the little comments that Shea drops, it’s clear that at this stage in his life he would like Brooklynn to be more than just a friend, even though he currently has a girlfriend.

Nick is a music producer and is currently helping Shea on his current album.   Nick is a super guy who sees through a person with his intense eyes.  His eyes also speak volumes of what he is thinking.  He sees through Brooklynn and knows that she is sheltering herself.   He doesn’t understand what kind of friendship Shea and Brooklynn have going on.

“I really, really want to kiss you, Brooklynn,” he murmurs, his voice raspy and soft and filled with need.  “I really, really want to.”
“So do it,” I whisper against his lips.
He shakes his head, rubbing the tip of his nose against mine.  “I don’t want to share you.”

Brooklynn returns to San Francisco, the place where her sorrow began and where her life took a different turn.   San Francisco seems to be a city of omen as Brooklynn and Nick have a falling out when she discovers what he is planning for his future and how she fits into the big picture.  Once again she feels that all people need from her is her name and Nick has held back critical information from her not once, but twice.

I just want him to tell me it’s not true.  I want him to look at me the way he always looks at me, with desire and care laced in his eyes, not the regret that’s there now.

The author did a very nice job incorporating depression into this story.  It added an extra dimension to the story and for me personally, gave it a genuine feel to the story. I think we all can relate to sinking down low and climbing back up.  Sometimes we need a little help, and sometimes one person can make all the difference in our lives.

“Are you sure everything will be okay?” I ask Nick in a whisper.
…”No, babe, I’m not, but that that’s the beauty of life…The only thing I’m sure about is us.”
And then he puts his mouth on mine, and I let myself fall.

AUTHOR INFO:

Claire Contreras graduated with her BA in Psychology from Florida International University. She lives in Miami, Florida with her husband, two little boys, and three dogs.

Her favorite past times are: daydreaming, writing, and reading.

She has been described as a random, sarcastic, crazy girl with no filter.

Life is short, and it’s more bitter than sweet, so she tries to smile as often as her face allows. She enjoys stories with happy endings, because life is full of way too many unhappy ones or ones that will scare the daylights out of her and have her looking over her shoulder at every turn. Like I said, she's very random.
