*Mikayla*
In one night my fairytale ended. Or it may have begun. This is my story of friendship and love, heartbreak and desire, and the strength to show weakness.

*Jake*
One night I met a girl. A sad and broken girl, but one more beautiful than any other. She laughed through her sadness, while I loved through her heartbreak.

*This is our story of a maybe ever after.*

He was right. It made no difference whether it was 6 months or 6 years.
I couldn’t undo what had been done. I couldn’t change the future.
I couldn’t even predict it.
It was one night.
One night when everything changed.
It was so much more than just the betrayal.
It was the Tragedy.
The Deaths.
The Murders.
But it was also that feeling.
The feeling of falling

Mikayla Jones gets the shock of her life when she discovers on the night of her prom, that two of the most important people in her life have been betraying her for the last two years. To make matters worse she’s standing in a restaurant with tear stained cheeks and a broken heart next to a hot stranger with an Australian accent. The stranger is Jake Andrews and he just witnessed everything, comforted her and then invited her to his prom. Deciding she needs to get her mind off her shattered heart she accepts, and finds herself having a great time with Jake and his friends. Unfortunately Mikayla’s reprieve from heartbreak is short lived. Tragedy strikes that same night and Mikayla’s world is turned upside-down and forever changed. She finds herself leaning on Jake and although she’s only just met him, she feels safe with him.

“……. he makes things hurt a little less. He…he’s home for me, right now.”

Jake Andrews is a big deal. His future in baseball is pretty much planned out for him and he’s predicted to go pro. When he meets Mikayla Jones all thought of baseball go on the backburner, he feels an instant connection to her even though they just met. He helps to take her mind off her heartbreak and then shelters and protects her when tragedy hits her hard. He’s there to support her every step of the way as she tries to piece together what is left of her shattered life. Along the way he realizes he had deep feelings for this girl, feelings that shouldn’t be there so soon. Jake knows Mikayla is too fragile now to start a relationship but he can’t deny the sexual tension between them or the fact that he’s fallen for this girl, hard.

It’s the fu*#ing hardest thing to do, to be around the person you love, with everything you have, and not be able to love them.”

Jake and Mikayla’s feeling for each other grow stronger as they are practically inseparable. But their undeclared relationship status leaves a lot of room for doubt, resentment and jealousy. As they head to College these feeling are amplified, and both Jake and Mikayla are both wondering where they stand. Jake doesn’t want to push Mikayla into something she’s just not ready for. Mikayla is afraid she’s too broken and Jake has been there for her because he pity’s her. They both carry around the question of whether this relationship will be over before it even had the chance to start.

“It’s just you. It’s only ever been just you. It will always only ever be just you.”

More Than This is the first novel in the More series by Jay McLean. I went through so many different emotions reading this story. There was humor, tears, sadness, anger and so much more. The circumstances that brought Jake and Mikayla together where heartbreakingly sad and tragic. Jake truly was her knight in shining armor and I don’t think she would of made it through any of it without him. The sexual tension between these two is insane and it literally felt like it took forever for them to get over their issues and get together, finally!! I think I actually cheered!! I loved Jake’s friends, especially Logan! We get a small glimpse of  what’s going on in Logan’s head at the end of this book and it has me clamoring for the second book in the series More Than Her!! Overall I really loved this book and I can’t wait to see how the storyline continues throughout the next books!

“I so much more than a lot like you.”

"For every action there is an equal or opposite reaction."

For every choice you make there are rewards,
or there are consequences.
It was my choice to walk away the first time.
And my choice to chase her the second.
But sometimes you don't get a choice,
and all you get are the consequences.

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength,
while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”

Unless that someone is Logan Matthews.
Because loving him didn't give me
the strength to walk away.
It didn't give me
the courage to fight for him.
And when it was over,
all it gave me was a broken heart.

“I’ve only ever been close to loving someone else one other time. Or at least I thought it could be love. But I had to kill that idea real quick, because the thing is, you don’t fall in love with your best friend's girl.”  Logan~

Logan Matthews doesn’t do relationships. He doesn’t open up to anyone except for a few of his closest friends and even they don’t know the whole story about his past and what he has gone through. But then Logan meets HER and everything changes. He’s never chased a girl before, he never had to, but for some reason he can’t get this girl out of his mind. After finally convincing her to go out with him, and having an amazing night, he screws it all up and it’s the biggest regret of his life.

“…..this is the moment I knew what it felt like to lose everything I never had.”

Over a year later she’s still on his mind no matter how much he tries to not think about her. When they run into each other again it’s very apparent she hates him and wants nothing to do with him. Logan wants to make it right with her but doesn’t know how. One night at a party her true feelings are revealed and Logan realizes then just how big of a mistake he made.

“……I tried to convince myself over the last year or so, that she didn’t care- or that she wouldn’t care- in just a few words she proved me completely wrong.

She felt it too.

She felt everything I did.”

Logan wants this girl more than he’s ever wanted anything, but she refuses to trust him again. But fate has a way of intervening and when Logan gets thrown out of his dorm he finds himself living in very close quarters to her. Being so close to her definitely is a blessing from above because slowly Logan begins to break down her walls and she starts to forgive him. But he soon realizes that she’s battling her own demons and when he finds out what they are he feels like he’s the one responsible. He makes it his mission to make new memories with her, all good ones and together they decide to give this their all.

“I forget that not everyone that loves you is out to hurt you. It's this moment— when I let it be okay for someone to love me.”

Logan is the happiest he has ever been but then he gets some news from his past he’s not sure he’s ready to face. And then his past catches up with him in a way he never expected. Can Logan face his past so he can move on with the girl of his dreams?

“This can’t be all there is to us. To our story. This can’t be how it ends.”

More Than Her is the second book in the More Series by Jay McLean. This is Logan’s story and I loved every second of it. Logan is beautifully broken. He has come so far from his damaged past but is so guarded with his heart until he meets HER. When we left off in the first book we were left wondering who Logan would be paired up with in this second book. I will let you discover that for yourself, but I will say I was happy with who it was. The chemistry between these two is indescribable, and they couldn’t fight that attraction no matter how hard they tried. There is a ton of angst and drama and tears and sigh worthy moments. I love that you get to see more of all the other characters from the previous book. I will say the end really surprised me, I wasn’t expecting it at all! So now I am forced to stalk Jay McLean until More Than Him is released in the Spring!! ACK!! Spring?? Really?? I am sure it will be worth the wait but I want it now! ;)

“I was the match that started the inferno.”
