4.5 Star Review by Jennifer Hagen
This was a fantastic book that hit all the right notes
with me – it was quick, laced with humor, had a few moments of angst and also
sadness, but ends happily. The female character is hilarious and her man
doesn’t know what is going to come out of her mouth next. She is feisty and nobody is going to push her
around, not even the big biker dudes at the clubhouse. They even stage a pseudo-intervention to let
her know that she is invading their privacy…all because she cleaned their
rooms! Okay, she may have picked the
locks in order to do so, but they should be happy she likes to clean! How did Faye end up at the clubhouse? It’s all because something wild happened one
night.
Faye is 20 years old and has 2 years of college
remaining. She and Eric have been
together for years and have visions of their future lined with marriage and
opening a law firm together. All that
changes the day that Faye finds Eric in bed with another woman. This sets in motion events that will forever
change their lives and will have Faye living at the clubhouse.
What does a girl do
when she finds her boyfriend cheating on her? Well, after she’s cried herself
sick for two days, she forces herself to get out of bed...Then she gets dressed
up, paying special attention to her appearance, and goes out. This is exactly what I did.
Faye is looking good that night. She catches the eye of Dex, a VP in a
motorcycle club and also the older brother to Eric. Her one night stand catches up with her 5
months later when Dex appears at her door of the hotel she is staying at since
her seeking-approval-with-society parents kicked her out. Faye has been cut off from her parents and
will need to find a place to live, a job to pay the bills and still try to
continue her education. Dex’s offer of
living with him at the clubhouse is a better alternative. Not that she had any choice in the matter –
Dex had decided for her that she was going to stay with him.
Dex is sex on a stick.
He has had his fair share of women and the women at the clubhouse
definitely want some more time with him.
Faye doesn’t know if there’s a label to her and Dex. Should she be jealous women are coming on to
Dex right in front of her eyes? Dex
makes it pretty clear where she stands in his life and clears up any
misunderstandings Faye may have about their situation.
“I don’t want
anything from you Faye... Now I’m going to go f*ck someone, while you stay here
and think about what a bitch you are.”
Dex is a standoffish when it comes to his true feelings
for Faye. There’s a little more than
just lust happening between them and the sooner they both give in to it, the
better off everybody will be. Dex is
undergoing a little “remodeling” at his home so until it’s ready for him to
move back in, he and Faye live at the clubhouse. You cannot have a motorcycle club book
without having a rival motorcycle club beating down your door and this book is
no exception. The suspense during this
event was stomach clenching, but in the end brings out the sweetest words Dex
could ever say when they seek comfort in each other’s arms in the dark of night
when the mask can come off.
“I love you too,”
he whispers to me. “I wanted to say it to you face to face.”
I loved the humor that we were able to see inside the
walls of the clubhouse. MC books tend to
have violence, but the reader was kept in the dark as to what happened on those
runs, and the story didn’t lose any points because of that. I enjoyed the interaction and banter between
the members. I gave this book 4.5 stars since
it included everything I look for in a book and was just what I needed at the
right time in my reading list. There are
very few books that pack everything into it and still have me smiling at the
end. I honestly can’t say a bad thing
about this book except I want more Dex and Faye. There will be more books in this series based
on secondary characters and I’m hopeful that we will still be seeing Dex and
Faye at the clubhouse.
