Blog Tour: Roots and Wings by M. Mabie

Synopsis:
Welcome to Wynne, population 3,401.

No billionaires. No professional athletes. No celebrities.

In this small town, current events are pondered in mirrors at the local salon or around crowded tables at the diner, and there’s a new couple to gossip about. A rough and tumble woman who works in her dad’s garage, not yet ready to spread her wings, shows the new guy in town what it’s like to finally have roots.

It’s your run-of-the-mill, sexy, Astro van driving dentist meets smart-ass, bass fishing tomboy in a story of real-life romance.

Low on drama. High on love.

Pull up a chair and stay a while.

Review by Lisa Kane

On a hot summer day when you're parched and thirsty there's nothing like a glass of cold, refreshing lemonade. Roots and Wings is like that. This is the perfect book to read after you've read a story where you ugly cried over or just finished one that crushed your heart with the drama and angst. Sometimes a sweet story about two halves combining to make a whole is just what you need.

Mutt O'Fallon has lived in a small town, Wynne all her life. Her real name is Hannah, but her grandfather coined her nickname. It might be one of affection now, but it started out because her mother was like the town bike-everyone took a turn. She could have been fathered by any number of men so her grandfather called her a mutt. But her mother couldn't be bothered to stick around for her. The man who raised her doesn't care whether he is her real dad or not. He loved her mother and he loves her. He owns an auto mechanic shop where Mutt works, along with her good friend Dean.

But life is about to get a little more interesting. Vaughn Renfro has just moved to town. He's the new dentist who just bought a fixer upper that needs lots of TLC. He meant to move here with his fiancee Rachelle, but she had other plans. When he runs into some problems, it's Mutt who bails him out. It might not have been long since he broke up with his girlfriend, but he is quickly realizing he's struck gold with "O'Fallon" as he calls her (he detests anyone calling her Mutt) in this small town.

She could take care of herself. She didn't wait around for someone to make plans. She lived her life every day how she wanted to. She was smart. And damn was she beautiful.

There are lots of charming things about small town living compared to big cities. There is a comfortable feeling that everyone is your neighbor; that help is just a call away and you are so much more than a faceless number in a crowd. But the downside is that everyone knows everything and they have long memories. It can be suffocating.

"She's a woman. A beautiful one. A hard working person who deserves better than what she gets. Her whole life she's been reminded that she was left. It's been rubbed in her face."

Taking a chance for the unknown with Vaughn is scary and exciting. But when his past comes crashing into town, it can make an insecure person feel that much worse about themselves. But Hannah has survived a whole lot worse and she'll weather this one too. Vaughn knows what or more like who he wants and he isn't about to let the best thing that's ever happened to him get away!

"Hannah, I want all of you. Every. Single. Part."
