About THE TIME IN BETWEEN (Magdalene Series #3):

After a painful loss, Cady Moreland is coming to Magdalene to start the next chapter of her life. A chapter that began eighteen years ago but had a heartbreaking ending. The time in between was full of family and friendship, but Cady could never get the man she fell in love with all those years ago out of her heart.

Coert Yeager has learned to live without the girl who entered his life right when she shouldn’t and exited delivering a crippling blow he never would have suspected. The time in between was full of failing to find what he was missing…and life-altering betrayal.

But when that girl shows up in Magdalene and buys the town’s beloved lighthouse, even if Coert wants to avoid her, he can’t. A fire in town sparks a different kind of flame that won’t be ignored.

As Cady and Coert question the actions of the two young adults they once were thrown into earth-shattering circumstances, can they learn from what came in between and find each other again?

4 Stars!
Review by Jen Hagen

I love Kristen Ashley’s detailed writing.  It took me a long time to be able to finish this book…summer vacation with the kiddos taking up most of my spare minutes…but every time I went to pick it up, I knew exactly where the story had left off.  Ms. Ashley has a way of keeping the story moving while throwing in any information you may have let slip by you without forcing redundancy to the reader.

Cady and Coert were young lovers 18 years ago.  Cady comes from a despicable home life;  she is never appreciated for who she is, but rather expectations are set high for her to follow.  Cady doesn’t want the life her parents expect out of her.  She is perfectly content working at a convenience store, making minimum wage, striving for the manager position to make her dreams of a clothing buyer come true.  Cady has all the time in the world to pursue this dream and she wants to do it her way.  I can’t stand her family.  And her brother…ugh… don’t get me started.  But yet who does he call when he needs life and death help?...Yep..  Cady.

Coert is a successful sheriff of a small town.  He knows the people and all the things that go on in a small town.  He is certainly aware of the fact that the local lighthouse has been sold to Cady; however, he does not give her the neighborly small town welcome.  He pretty much lays down his law when he comes upon Cady face to face…

“I don’t wanna see you.  I don’t wanna hear from you.  I don’t want anything to do with you.  I can’t imagine what would give you even that first hint that I’d ever wanna have you even a shadow in my life again.”

Judging from that, I think we can all assume their little romance 18 years ago did not end well.  It’s probably because 18 years ago Coert asked Cady to do him a solid and Cady didn’t follow his words.

“Stick with me.  Believe in me, Cady.  Even if you don’t know what I’m asking, I’m still gonna ask it.  Don’t give up no matter what.”

Cady didn’t stick around for answers and she moved on.  So why the interest in Coert now?  What is Cady thinking moving from Denver, Colorado to Maine??  In everything Cady does, she has a purpose and a plan.  There’s a method to her thinking, but it’s a huge risk.  This time around though she has the backing of a huge support system; one that will not let her down and will go to bat for her. Cady isn’t a damsel in distress.  She is a fiercely independent 41-year-old woman.  You go, girl!  We are rooting for you!!  Get your man!!

All of Ms. Ashley’s male characters in the books I have read are a very strong alpha male, and Coert is no different.  For everybody that loves Ms. Ashley’s writing knows that there are certain terms we come to expect our male characters to speak or behave.  This book is no different.  It elated me to find the words “solid,” “handling it,” and “glowering” used in the writing.  While this is the third book in the Magdalene Series you do not need to have read the previous 2.  If there was any character overlap, it wasn’t significant to cause disturbance to the reader.

About Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
