Review by Jen Skewes

I loved this book.  But honestly I don’t think that there is a book by Leddy Harper that I did not love, and I have read them all.  I love her writing, the characters she creates and the emotions that she makes me feel.  Over the last few years since I started reading her books, she has made me laugh out loud, ugly cry like I have never ugly cried before, broke my heart a few times, caused my heart to jump out of my chest and left me completely happy with a huge smile on my face and a book hangover for days.  I don’t even bother reading the blurbs because I will read anything that she writes.  And trust me when I say she did not disappoint with this book.  It was the unique storyline, the amazing characters and the chemistry between them, and the way she made feel it all with them, that had me devouring this book in one sitting.  It was beautiful and perfect.

Cash is a divorced man who works a lot.  So much so that he is only home on weekends, but when he is home he is lonely.  He doesn’t want a girlfriend, and is not looking for love but he is looking for a companionship.  He puts an ad in the paper looking for a female roommate for companionship only, nothing more.

Jade is a single mom who is in desperate need of a job and a place to stay.  She has been staying with her best friend but things are a little too crowded. Four people in a one-bedroom apartment with one bathroom is a little too much.   She sees Cash’s ad and thinks it’s a little odd for a man to be looking specifically for a female roommate.  She decides to answer the ad even though she has no intention of being this man’s roommate.  When he gets in touch with her she is a little shocked and not really sure what to do.  They begin to communicate, and she finds herself actually liking him and despite her trust issues, Cash seems different.

Jade is looking for a fresh start for her and her daughter and while trusting Cash and actually taking him up on his offer sounds all wrong, for her it just feels right.  She may not be able to explain it but it just does.  So they get together and draw up their Roommate “dis” agreement.   They both knew the rules and they also thought they knew what to expect.  Oh they were so wrong, because this “dis” agreement completely turned their world upside down, making them feel things they did not want to feel. Will they both fight their feelings or accept the fact that they belong together and are so much more than just roommates?

I cannot say enough about Cash.  This man was everything!!  He was kind, sweet, a bit of an alpha, sexy, and had just a big heart, especially where Jade and her daughter Aria were concerned.  I loved how he took to Aria right away and the moments with her just melted my heart.  You cold see how much Jade was making him feel, and I loved it.  He needed them in a way that I think he never expected to.  I loved their connection and the chemistry between them was off the charts.  I think the moment they first spoke to each other you just knew that they were meant to be.  He was just perfect in so many ways.

Jade is one of those heroines that you just love and admire.  I admired her for her strength and her perseverance to move on and do what was best for her and her daughter.  Her life was so far from perfect.  As a matter of fact the truth behind her past just broke me.  I felt so much sadness for her.  But Cash brought something out in her,  he gave her life, made her feel.  And she did the same for him.  She had a lot of trust issues and you see that as their relationship grows.  And over time that trust and their relationship is tested and you really wonder if they can survive it.

Leddy Harper has done a fantastic job with this story.  It is unique in its own way.  I loved the characters and the connection that you felt between them.  Aria will melt your heart.  That little girl had me from the start and I can say the same for Cash as well.  I loved the banter between them.   I loved everything about this book but I think it was the pace of the story, the issues they faced (even the small ones), the moments where trust was an issue, all those things made this book just feel so real.  Nothing ever seemed rush, or too over the top.  It was all real and you felt every bit of emotion that these characters felt.  A beautifully written story that left me thinking about it for days after.

About Leddy Harper

Leddy Harper had to use her imagination often as a child.
She grew up the only girl in a house full of boys. At the age of fourteen, she
decided to use that imagination and wrote her first book, and never
stopped.
She often calls writing her therapy, using it as a way to
deal with issues through the eyes of her characters.
She is now a mother of three girls, leaving her husband as
the only man in a house full of females.
The decision to publish her first book was made as a way of
showing her children to go after whatever it is they want to. Love what you do
and do it well. Most importantly Leddy wanted to teach them what it means to
overcome their fears.
