It should have been easy.
I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death.
I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent.
The worst part is that I should have known better.
Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes.
“Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.”
Sounds familiar? That’s because it was a headline in a tabloid the second time he got arrested.
Guess what? I didn’t listen.
I signed the contract.
World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows.
My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god.
Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too.
Then he took my heart.
Then he took my all.

5 Stars
Review by Lisa Kane

There has to be a rating higher than 5 stars somewhere. Because I feel as if I am doing Midnight Blue a serious offense by only giving it 5 stars. I adore this author’s works. She makes me feel-my soul bleed, my heartache, my spirit soar. This one may just be my favorite. (and considering my Kindle has been known to freeze up from reading Vicious so many times, that’s saying something.)
Indigo Bellamy is trying her best just to survive. And not just for her to get by, but to help her brother Craig, his wife Natalie and their sick baby Ziggy. She’s answered a want ad for an assistant’s position. But at her interview she finds out the job isn’t so much an assistant as a babysitter, for none other than British rocker Alex Winslow-one of the biggest singers in the world. And also one of the most arrogant, coked out, messed up individuals one could ever meet. But the job pays a ridiculous amount of money and they need the money.

I was going to make three hundred thousand dollars and hang out with the biggest rock star in the world for three months.

Their first meeting goes as badly as you might think it would. Alex is a real gem….

“Your name is Indie?”
“Indigo after the color.”
“Hardly making it better,” I quipped. She’d officially lost my attention, though, and I tossed the still-lit fag out the open window and propped my forearm against the wall, mentally rummaging my mind to find what I wanted to ask Jenna about.
“Glad you think so. I’ve been anxiously waiting to hear what you think of my name,” Indie said.

Oil meet vinegar.

Alex is as determined to run this babysitter off just like the other half dozen to date. He doesn’t need or want someone to keep him sober. Well maybe he needs someone, but he doesn’t want them.
The tour kicks off; Alex does his evil best to get Indie to quit. She is a quiet force to be reckoned with and surprise of all surprises-she is his muse. Just hearing her talk about her life fills his head with lyrics and enough material for a new album.

And I hated him.
Hated the way he walked, the way he talked, the way he’d undermined me. Hated that he held so much power over me, and the way he was going to use that power against me.

You can’t have all that electricity and chemistry without it spilling over-maybe onto a bed or a wall or a floor. But it’s inevitable that they are going to climb each other like spider monkeys. Indie knows this isn’t going to end well. Alex is still hung up on his ex, Fallon, who left him for his best friend.

“When I look at you, I see something broken that isn’t worth fixing. And you look at me like I’m a cheap thing to replace the expensive one that’s been stolen from you.”

Ouch.
This is a story about secrets. Secrets friends keep from each other. Secrets company execs keep from clients. Secrets lovers keep from each other.

“Lies kept the tour running, right?” I took a sip of my tea. “Letters from the Liars. That’s what this tour should have been called.”

Prepare to be caught completely unprepared. Seriously, there are so many mind fu*#s going on in this story your head will barely have time to recover before the author decimates your heart. I kept thinking, Jesus, take the wheel for a bit, ‘cause I need a moment to myself.
This book has some of the best writing my eyes have ever had the pleasure to read.

“I’m not here to make promises, because promises are meant to be broken.”
“My love for you is like a studded leather jacket worn inside out. It digs into my chest, eager to produce blood.”

See what I mean? Ms. Shen quenches my reading thirst. How does she come up with these lines, and please don’t ever let her stop writing them.
Our characters must break before they can heal. They are each other’s glue. Once put together again, they will never be the same as they were before. But somehow they are more brilliant and human and flawed.

“You’re holding my world together in your delicate, freckled hands, and all I ask is for you not to toss it against the wall and break it to pieces.”

Excerpt:

Nat’s words came back and haunted me like a bad haircut from the eighties. An irrational need to check the goods took over me. It wasn’t like he minded. According to the rumors, his dick had seen more cameras than Kendall Jenner. Slowly—so painfully slowly—my eyes drifted down his sinewy body. I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Whatever I had in mind, though, didn’t come close to the real thing. Thick, long but not atrocious. With thin veins running through its length.

“Nice view?” he groaned, tucking his junk back into his briefs. His profile was glorious. Strong jaw, pouty lips, eyes like sex…

My eyes snapped up when I realized he was talking to me. “I wasn’t…”

“Looking? Yes, you were. Next time take a picture. It lasts longer.” He rolled his zipper upward and flushed the toilet with the toe of his boot. He turned around and squirted soap into his palm, washing his hands almost violently—rubbing between each finger and scratching his knuckles like he wanted to shed his own skin. When he was done, he looked around for a towel.

I cleared my throat, scrambling to regain my wits. “Longer than the glimpse or longer than your performance?”

Casually—so unbearably casually—he wiped his wet hands over my purple dress. I gasped, moving sideways. It looked like he was about to open the door and get out, but before I had the chance to yell at him for using me as a human towel, he slammed me against the wall, bracing both his arms above my head and pinning me to my spot. I let out a shriek of surprise at the sudden proximity.

Alex Winslow is touching me. Willingly, my surprisingly pitiful brain squealed.

Heat rolled off his body, making my back arch and my breath catch in my throat.

“Let’s make one thing clear—I could fuck you to a point of numbness without even breaking a sweat if I wanted to. Now, careful, New Girl. If you don’t keep your distance from me, I think I just might.”

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.
